2010 Texas vs The Nation - discuss here! (1 Viewer)

any news here today about how practice went for the players???
Just got back from dinner with Russ Lande from Sporting News and will have my practice reports done ASAP.
So what's on Lande's mind? :lmao:
Not to spoil his surprise, but Jonathan Crompton is going to be rated VERY high in the Sporting News Draft guide. That's his guy, and he loves his skill set. I must admit "City of Crompton!" had a great first day of practice.

Just got back from practice, and am writing up my practice reports now!

Will do the PIT report from Monday and Tuesday as well.

I should have time to do my first What If?!? Mock Draft tonight too! :excited:

Cecil, any notes on Kevin Jurovich or Preston Parker today?

Jurovich caught my eye in the game against USC. I noticed that he has also been invited to the combine.

So has Parker, who looked like a promising player at Florida State before being banished.

Just curious if either is showing anything.

I am curious about your thoughts on how George Johnson is doing (DE from Rutgers).
Taking a break between Texas and Nation practice reports (Texas is in to Bloom). Let me just quote Johnson from the PIT - dude is amazing, and nearly unstoppable!

"I'll walk you ### back to the quarterback" - after beating Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale (arguably the best prospect here)

"You know you was beat!" - after getting held by Tyler Eastman, OT, Maine

Guy is one of my favorite players down here!

Be sure to check out my "notes from the PIT article" coming later tonight to http://draftguys.com

;)

Were you there when Keithon Flemming was there? Joe Glenn was the coach at the time.
I had to look it up, but I was there during his redshirt year. I don't know anything about him.

I visited Laramie when he was there and saw the Cowboy avatar on your name. I was there the first game of that season (fall '04)...I have never in my life seen the rain come out of nowhere like I did that day and it came down hard. I mean I expect the clouds to roll in first and then get some rain..this just popped out of nowhere, lol.

I think he'll do pretty well in this game.

Thanks. I appreciate we get updates on even minor games like this. One of the few chances Perrilloux will get a chance to impress. I remember when he was the number one QB prospect out of high school.

I had someone that used to coach at LSU tell me that when Perrilloux was there he was by far the best athlete on the team. He's not the best QB here (Jonathan Crompton is) but he may have the highest upside. I like Perrilloux better than Max Hall, Mike Kafka, Todd Reesing, Matt Nichols, Daryl Clark, Sean Canfield, (plus the other QBs here not named Crompton). His off the field stuff may keep him from getting drafted, but teams have loved what they've seen down here. He's definitely going to have some offers if someone doesn't select him.

Returned from practice and am working on my week in review!

Also, working on my first "What If!?!" Monday Mock Draft which will release next Monday after the Super Bowl. :lmao:

How much video are you going to put on your website? I appreciate your reports, but I would rather see the guys for myself.

I think that it would also be interested if you could rank the players or tier them in terms of work ethic based on what you saw and have gathered on them. Most of these guys are elite athletes, so it's important to look for things that will really make the difference for them in terms of having successful NFL careers. Do you have an eye for guys who are coasting and guys who are busting their humps? I tend to think that slightly less "talented" players who don't cheat themselves in practice are more likely to succeed than naturally gifted guys who don't "want it" as much.

I remember how high Cecil was on a guy I had never heard of last season and that stuck with me. He saw something in a guy named Austin Collie and seems to have turned out just fine. Sometimes it's hard to put in words what you see in a player, but when you scout players often certain instincts can take over and you know things that you don't necessarily know how you know. I'm interested in your opinions on how competitive guys are in drills and how consistent they are in terms of being focused on getting better at every opportunity they have. Some guys take reps off and some guys have no idea how to take reps off. Do these things stick out to you and who falls into those categories?

Game is on CBSC right now

E.J. Wilson with a sack on Perrilloux

Trindon Holliday with a nice return, spin move, put his hand on the ground to maintain balance.

Jonathan Crompton good throw when running to his left.

LSU RB Trindon Holiday having a HUGE day. big returns every time he's back there. TD run, TD reception - showing good quickness, patience, and agility.

159 total yards so far...will remind people of LaRod Stephens-Howling.

Ryan Perrilloux running the Wildcat, the spread option, and traditional dropback offense. Doing a good job of passing/running the ball. Had one mistake where he fumbled the ball on a throw (arm might have been coming forward IMHO).

Know where to catch a boxscore, stats, etc. from this game?
I can't believe it's this hard to find stats/box scores anywhere! This is insane.

Double True! The game is getting more recognition - Russ Lande from Sporting News was there for the first time, because it's usually just me, Bloom, and Chad Reuter from CBS http://nfldraftscout.com at the game. Hopefully somebody picks up the box score, should be on the official website after the game.
