Titans fans, what do you think of the heavy changes made in your coaching ranks? Munchak is a TBD as a head coach, obviously, but Chris Palmer as OC and Jerry Gray as DC are veterans (or retreads as the case may be). Thoughts? My instincts don't think of Palmer as a very inspired choice, but maybe he's ready to reshape himself in the way we saw Dan Henning have some success or Marty Mornhinweg has redefined his reputation in Philadelphia?

Titans fans, what do you think of the heavy changes made in your coaching ranks? There's zero discussion in the Titans coaching thread I started, not sure why. I still believe Mangini ruffled some feathers and started this mess. I wish it was something that would be discussed with the public but neither NFL rules nor our country's laws allow much of any details of interviews to truly come out. Fisher was staying after the owner backed him with the VY stuff. He was going to get to pick his staff for a change, Mangini goes for an interview and then Fish is suddenly quitting (and Adams had no clue).Fisher probably wanted out. The situation was far from ideal and that has zero to do with Mangini. I had literally watched a video of an interview w him the day before where he was discussing next season and...something happened. I am totally assuming it was Mangini and that might not be fair to him, but why hasn't this supposed excellent defensive mind received another interview since? Why is the only job he can get is as a coordinator in the UFL? The guy was practically called BB's protege not all that long ago. I think it was Matt Pitzer at Sporting News (then) that favorably compared losing a coach to losing a girlfriend. Fisher's gone and that in and of itself is considerable news in Tennessee and the NFL. Previously Munchak said few words and gave outstanding results in his play or the OL's play. In this girlfriend context, a HOFer replacing Fish has to be ideal.The time will come when not being Fisher could be used against Munchak, but for now it's all rosy.I like that the people in the organization seem to have an excellent repoire with him already including the GM. There's a history there already that should definitely help a new coach along. I like that he's hiring his guys. I don't have that favorable an impression of Gray from his previous stints, but (for now) it's nice that Munchak wanted him. BP and plenty of other very experienced minds thought well of Palmer in the past. He rarely had a decent line to work with, so let's see. I am excited that Palmer is excited about Jared Cook. FF folks gotta love that. Frank Bush-I thought he was terrible in Houston. I love me some DeMeco, Cushing is fabulous and Mario still is better than Reggie Bush. How were they so bad? But Munchak loves the guy and he's going to coach the LBers. The LBers play was exactly what I liked about him in Houston. The Titans LBs are super weak so he's got his work cut out for him, but as a LB coach- I love the idea.You don't pluck a HS coach to come coach in the NFL. Munchak did and Palmer had to sell him on this guy. Dave Ragone as a WR coach is super odd.The Titans OL was being coached by one HOFer and now they are coached by a HOFer with an assistant with boatloads of experience coaching NFL linemen. Munchak was a great OL coach, but I have zero concern about the unit without him focusing on them.Tracy Rocker has a good pedigree like he's ready to come coach an NFL DL; as if it'd be the next step in his career anyway. Let's see. He's intriguing. As far as the season goes, Munchak better fix that defense and he had better hold them accountable for poor play. Cecil didn't and Finnegan went from one of the best to a below average CB real fast. They have very good safeties. It's common sense though that if they're making tons and tons of plays, then the guys in front of them aren't getting it done. On offense, I don't care what Palmer says. There's arguably the best back in the NFL with a fabulous OL in front of him-they're running...a lot.Schwartz worries me and where Fisher winds up worries me. I need to go check some contracts. My guess is that most of their best players will be free agents in a year or two. Munchak said he doesn't consider this a rebuld, but if he doesn't coach well, players may bolt, and he won't have a choice in the matter. I think both Safeties are free agents in a year and at least one of their Ts.The fun thing about Munchak is there's no QB. Well, there's Rusty Smith but if he wasn't on the roster in 2011, only his family would notice. Coaching success is so often attached to a QBs success that Munchak has a nice cushion for a few months. Since they signed Palmer, I expect Munchak 's career to be tied to a rook real soon. That'll be exciting, but if the rook stinks then those free agents are walking. The Titans should have traded Washburn for Kolb. I think whether they sign a decent veteran QB to play for a few years or whether they roll with a rook is going to mean everything here. They can win now with the right veteran and I've said before I think Carson is worth more than most in a trade. He or Kolb seem so so so much better for them than waiting for some young rook to develop. Sadly, CJ might be injured or run into the ground by the time that rook has developed too.I'm also concerned of the idea of them picking a rook, banking on that rook and then the CBA stuff makes it where the rook doesn't even have a normal rookie offseason to prepare for his first NFL season. I don't know that Carson or Kolb (or whatever FA QB) would be great right away, but if there's a short time to prepare then that's gotta be the way to go. Oh did I mention everyone has to learn a new offensive and defensive system? Yeah this could be a trainwreck real fast. We might be wishing the NFL allowed Munchak and Matthews to throw some pads on to try not to get blown out.
