According to Jeff Passan, Shin-Soo Choo turned down a seven-year, $140M contract from the Yankees
good god
As obnoxious as he is, Boras usually doesn't blow situations like this. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets 8/160.
Probably so, but as the article points out, now there are fewer big money teams that will compete to bid on Choo.

I would love to see him land on the Red Sox, but not sure they are going to offer that kind of contract.

Yanks are out, Dodgers probably out. Tigers already in cost cutting mode, LAA can't possibly have enough in reserve to add his contract, Mets maybe?

7 years/120M is pretty good coin. Have to have a pretty large set of balls to reject that contract.

Everything you say makes sense, but on the other hand, Boras.

When it looks like he's going to lose, he wins. When it looks like he's going to win, he wins huge.

Ryan Doumit to the Atlanta Cobbs for minor league LHP Sean Gilmartin. I'm not sure what they're going to do with him. He hasn't caught very much lately and wasn't exactly Jim Sundberg before. He may not be that much worse than Gattis defensively.

Gilmartin is a 2011 #1 draft choice who had some arm problems last year. His AA and AAA SO/9 rates are only around 6.5 so he ought to fit right in for the Twins.

Indians trade Drew Stubbs to the Rockies, probably for Tulo.
LHP Josh Outman

in a related move the Rockies also traded utility IF Jonny Herrera to Boston for LHP Franklin Morales.

Stubbs will likely be a platoon player with either of the Charlie Blackmon or Corey Dickerson, or possibly Morneau with Cuddyer sliding to 1B against lefties.

Who would have figured that three OF named Drew Stubbs, Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson are all Caucasians

Danny Valencia traded to the Royals. May seem insignificant, but its almost like someone with a clue has taken over the Royals lately.

He's a career .329/.367/.513 hitter against LHP, and Moustakas just happens to swing it lefty. Moose is cringe-worthy in the L/L splits (.222/.275/.332).

David Lough headed to Baltimore in the exchange. It seems like a fair reallocation of talent to fill team needs provided that Machado's recovery doesn't drag on.

6.5 is a little high, to be honest.

Pretty sure this means they're going to give Kubel the full time DH role, even though he can't hit lefties and would be a perfect platoon mate with Doumit. Not that the Twins would use a platoon anyway because Gardy.

Doumit has a career line of 264/324/395 as a RHB against LHP. If he is a platoon mate for Kubel, that is one super ####ty platoon mate

Gammons: Japanese Pitcher Tanaka Wont Be Let Go, Reports Say If Mr. Mikitani posted, it would be concession that Japan is a minor league for MLB

We're talking the Twins here. I would rather have Doumit/Kubel platoon than either of them play full time. Which doesn't matter any more because he's gone.

Be careful, youre gonna get your head ripped off for saying the same thing I said.

Seems like the market for Choo is shrinking.

Right after the season ended Boros was talking that Choo was a 100 million dollar player, then they turn down 140 from the Yankees?? Unless Choo did not want to play in NY this does not make sense.

I would not give Choo anything more than a Granderson type of deal. 4-60. Anything over 4-5 years for a 31 year old player never works out.

Cubs sign Jonathan Sanchez to a minor league deal.

The Spring Training long toss sessions with him and Jose Veras will be epic (and dangerous).

Balfour has made $16M over his career but it's Christmas and I feel kind of bad for him. He'll be 36 on opening day so this was his best and possibly last chance to really cash in. Someone will sign him but it'll probably only be a one-year deal now.

Ryan Madson called to tell him there was no cause for concern.

Balfour to O's has been imperiled by an issue that came up in his physical. I'm guessing it's his massive weiner.
He went into full Balfour Rage mode when the doctor told him to cough
Balfour getting angry.Grant Balfour says he told Orioles executive Dan Duquette what he thinks about the O's backing out of his two-year deal with them, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "I called Dan Duquette and told him, 'Ive played in this league for 10 years, I deserve to be treated with respect and you did not treat me with respect.'" Balfour says. "'Two well respected physicians said I am completely healthy because I am healthy. Im a fighter and a winner and I would have given you your best chance to win.'"
He's considering filing a grievance. Tampa's doctor says his shoulder looks fine, and should have been a "no brainer" for Baltimore to consummate the deal.

Rangers sign OF Shin Soo-Choo to a 7 year, $130 mil deal.

Solid leadoff hitter and completes what should be a good fielding OF with Rios and Martin/Gentry. Still, that's worth almost $19 mil per?

Fixed
Woof. Didn't realize he fell that far off.And :bag: on Gentry. His deal got lost in a dealgasm day.
The Reds played Choo out of position in CF last year so his advanced fielding stats look worse. He should be decent or better in LF for the Rangers. He probably won't be very good defensively at age 38 in 2020.
