2013 Official Dallas Cowboys Thread (1 Viewer)

Its a big party ove there in the eagles thread. Pattin eachother on the back. Talkin about their great drafts. chip kelly is superman. In their minds, they've already beaten the Cowboys Sunday. Nothing is more annoying than eagles fans all riled up. I'd love for the Cowboys to shut em up!

I want this game bad! We need you Sean Lee! D.Ware, you keep saying you feel better. Time for a monster game!

F the eagles!

Do we even need to play this game?

The outcome is inevitable. Cowboys lose a tight game where the defense surrenders huge yardage total followed by a Romo pick in the final few minutes.

Eagles 38-28.

We've been here many, many times before. If you haven't figured it out yet, you simply are not paying attention, or if you are a Cowboy fan- you simply refuse to take the rise colored glasses off.

It feels lousy to write this because I'm a 30 year fan, but it is what it is.

I have been naive for a long time when it comes to fans. I really have only gone to Detroit home games and a few Detroit road games where opposing fans don't really hate Lions fans because they're not a threat.

Anyway, it is shocking to me how awful Eagles fans really are. It's almost as if they like the reputation and they play up to it, an excuse to behave the way they do.

I will always root for them to lose. Dallas may not be good enough to beat Philly, but Philly has their own problems, they aren't good enough to win the SB and really that's all that matters. The NFC East is the worst it's been....ever. For Philly to need to win on the last week speaks to itself, they aren't very good in the grand scheme of things despite the performance last night.

If the Cowboys bring their "A" game it will be a shootout at best, if the don't they'll get blown out.
I lived in Philadelphia for the first 27 years of my life. Therefore, I am an Eagles fan. Therefore, I also root passionately against the Dallas Cowboys. However, I have now lived 22 years outside of Philadelphia and I have learned a few things:

1) Philadelphia fans are some of the most passionate fans in the country, and will support their teams, positively and negatively, whether they are good or bad. They are not fair weather fans.

2) Philadelphia has some of the most obnoxious, idiot fans in the country. And generally the ones that act the worst are usually the ones who talk the loudest. It is not always easy rooting for a team with those fans

3) It never pays to talk trash to other teams fans because at some point they will usually have an opportunity to talk trash back to you

4) It never pays to talk trash to other teams fans as a Philadelphia fan, because at some point they will ALWAYS have an opportunity to talk trash back to you, because the Philadelphia team will always find a way to mess things up.

I am not here to apologize for other Philadelphia fans. I am not responsible for them and they would not want me to. However, I will say that this week, as I try to do most weeks, I will try to be a respectful fan, and talk respectfully to Cowboy fans. Most of you guys seem like good fans, and if it weren't for the fact that you root for the Cowboys, I would probably root for your team to win. Good luck this week, and I hope it is a great game on Sunday no matter who wins.

I am very excited about the way the Eagles played last night, but I still remember last Sunday's game against the Vikings, so anything can happen. I also still remember the end of the 2009 season when the Cowboys probably had their two biggest wins at the death star winning back-to-back games against the Eagles to win the division and then win the wildcard game. I think Foles performs as he has much of the season, and leads the Eagles to a 31-27 win. I attribute that pick as much to the Cowboys ability under Garrett and Romo to find a way to lose a big game as I do to the ability of the Eagles to win a big game.
With our defense being like it is, I doubt many of us fans are exactly confident, but we'll show up and play the game anyway. We hate the dirty Eagles as much as you guys hate the Cowboys. These games are what we live for, and what being a fan is all about. For all the ups and downs and heartbreakers and embarrassments and comebacks and media hype, blah, blah, blah, our teams have a chance to win the division on Week 17. Of course, I'd rather be 15-0 right now, but realistically, this is all we can ask for.

Cowboys 38-35. Bailey nails a 50+ yard'er to win.

Interesting how Scandrick was able to shut down Garcon after Carr was toasted all day long. What's up with the $50 million dollar man? Wow, Carr was bad.

I hate eagles so much. But, this is a much better team than the one we faced earlier this season. Chip Kelly is smarter and a better game manager than Ginger, the team makes fewer mental and execution errors than we do, and they are more talented on both sides of the ball.

Bottom line, we have to play the perfect game to win.

game plan against the eagles to heavily feature demarco murray?

wouldn't that be something if they still win despite romo being out.

The big problem with this injury to Romo isn't that he's hurt and we're almost positive to lose the game. That was going to happen, likely, with or without Romo. But now Jerry and Baby Carrot have an excuse for Baby Carrot to stay on one more year.

I can only hope and once Kiffin allows 35+ points hopefully they can replace him. Wouldn't mind a Schwartz or Rex Ryan as replacements if they get fired.

During Garrett's presser, he said they haven't ruled Romo out for this week yet. Maybe Schefter jumping the gun a little bit or maybe Dallas throwing smoke. Have to wait and see.

Then again, Schefter tweeted this about an hour ago too.

Orton is one of the highest paid b/u's in the league, and for good reason, imo. He's proven himself before, and would likely start on a handful of teams. And its not like the eagles D are world beaters. If we get Demarco goin, I think Orton makes some plays with our weapons. Gotta sustain drives and keep that eagle O off the field. Otherwise, we're doomed.

With the Romo news, what no one is talking about, is Lee is done for the year. I think we need him more Sunday, than Romo right now.

Im not optimistic that we win this one, but I'm not losing hope.

Well, I honestly don't give two ####s about making the playoffs at this point and with this team. But, I most definitely don't want Philly to get in.

My only imaginable scenario where the Cowboys come out of this with a win is that there now is a lot more precision and attention to detail and Ginger reigns it in. He focuses on the best offensive weapon we have, burns some clock, disrupts any semblance of rhythm the Eagles offense might establish, and everyone on the team feels a sense of ownership and pride to make every play the most important play they have ever prepared for.

Agree with the poster above, what is unfortunate is we have to suffer through another year of Garrett stumbling through gameplanning and trying to find a rudder anywhere to help direct his team. Another wasted season for 2014 with no direction up or down. Good enough to beat bad teams, not good enough to dismiss the .500+ team

Oh the horror of being a top 5 offensive scoring team. Woe is me our HC sucks. Perhaps if you had more realistic expectations.

The Eagles installed a new offense and switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4 this offseason. The fact that they even have a shot at the playoffs speaks volumes to how good a job Chip Kelly and FO did this offseason. The Eagles have a ton of cap space available (as usual) and with another offseason of competent drafting and FA signings, the sky is the limit for this team. Superbowl this year, doubtful. But their window has just opened up...again.
The fact that they even have a shot at the playoffs speaks volumes to how poor the NFC East is although Chip Kelly has been looking more solid as the season goes on. I get that your excited about Nick Foles but to say the window has opened is very presumptive. RGIII looked like the best QB last year and this year looked like Quincy Carter.

I never said one thing about Foles being the reason the window is open. He's part of it, but he's not the only reason.

Maybe the eagles are building something. But they gotta win Sunday first, which it seems like many think is a forgone conclusion. i think eagles nation is getting a little ahead of itself.

It would make my year to keep the eagles from going to the playoffs, while winning the east. That, and the seachickens losing in the playoffs to pipe those guys down. Thats all I want this holiday season!

It's as if you think the only thing you think matters is offense. It's as if you ignore how stupid decisions are made with that #5 offense that lose football games. You think Garrett is the next up and coming great head coach for no ostensible reason. You think he drafts players, you think he manages the salary cap, Christ...it's as though you think he invented Christmas. Anyway, he should be gone. Anyone who isn't drinking Kool Aid while wearing rose colored glasses understands that a top 5 offense is not how a team is judged. The team was ranked 15th the previous two seasons, by the way. But, since seasons and head coaches are judged by records and playoffs, three consecutive 8-8 seasons with critical losses because the head coach has no idea how to manage a football game...that should be your first clue he has no business as a head coach. Quarterback coach maybe. Offensive coordinator...perhaps. But, he does not deserve to be a head coach in this league until he demonstrates an understanding of how to run a football operation. Garrett is out of his league, and you're on an island with this guy. Even Jerry likely knows he made a mistake.

Finally, if anyone's expectations were off, it was yours. You thought this team was awesome, led by a head coach that was better. I was the one, along with others, trying to warn you not to get too excited. That this was a flawed undisciplined team that, despite playing in a crap division likely wasn't going anywhere. And they aren't. They weren't with romo, and they won't with orton. Unrealistic expectations? Look in the mirror, my friend. You've been inflating this team all season long and continue to think it's going somewhere next year when talent deficits, coaching deficits, and a bloated cap that renders this team utterly incapable of making a single improvement...and in fact will lose players...are going to make this 8 win team turn into a 6 win team then a 5 win team before eventually imploding. We should have blown this up last year and accelerated the build up, but myopia ruled, and you've fallen for this narrative that we can compete hook line and sinker.

Well lets see its week 17 and Dallas has a chance to win the NFC East pretty sure I would have signed up for this at the beginning of the season. I predicted at best 10-6 so its actually pretty close especially with all the heart wrenching losses this year. I knew Kiffin would be bad but not historically bad and that first week causing 6 turnovers really bought him some leeway for a good part of the season. So a head coach improves from the 15th to the 3rd overall offense and your not happy? Do you not see progress? If anything this season just proved how AWESOME ROMO is. Guy has thrown for 31 tds and only 10 ints for comparison purposes Tom Brady has only 24 tds and 10 ints. You only remember the 10 ints and not the 31 tds so that's unfortunate. Bottom line this team would be lucky to win 2-4 games without Romo all year. You finally gave Romo an offensive line and seen what he can do. Next year give him a defense and the skys the limit.

Yes, fortunately we will be in exceptional cap position, what with all the masterful cap management Garrett has orchestrated, that Romo will get a lot more tools on defense next year. Give me a break.Romo is what Romo is. I'm not sure what has made you think this year is any different than years past. He wins crazy games and single-handedly loses crazy games. Been that way his entire career.

Since Garrett was 15th and 15th in scoring his first two years he was HC and calling plays, Jerry stripped him of his playcalling duties, and now they are 4th. Perhaps it is Callahan, not Garrett, that should warrant all your praise.

But, quite frankly, they haven't played a team who was .500 or better and won all year. He is the head coach and showing zero improvement on the only stats that count: wins and playoffs. With the defense as bad as it is, he (a) needs to seize control of the coaches and that group and make sure it gets better--that's his job and (b) he should have instructed Callahan long ago to forego some of the pass-happy tendencies and focus on the running game (31st in attempts) to take pressure off the porous defense.

Garrett has been derelict in every duty as a head coach. Players making terrible penalties, not lining up to play every snap (see DET loss), time management, situational play management, not holding the defense accountable, etc.

Everybody sees this but you.

Merry Christmas.

I don't think the score will be that much different than it would habe been with Romo. I think Dallas will try and run the ball more.....that is a good thing. I think Kyle Orton has fresh legs and an arm, a week to practice (minusChristmas) with the starters....he'll do fine.

It'll be can the defense hold up, can they create turnovers and get off the field on 3rd downs. None of that has anything to do with Romo. I like Romo, I would rather have hin in there healthy but I have always liked Orton, he's capable of making some throws. Come on, he's as good as Christian Ponder or close to it. The defense lets up 40 points I don't care who's playing QB, we lose.

You really contradict yourself at every turn. First off how can you possibly blame Garrett for handing out contracts when we all know that's Jerry Jones department. Then in a previous argument you made reference that Garrett should be to blame for defensive woes since he is the head coach but at the same token its all Callahan on the offensive improvements. Seems to me that no matter what happens if its bad its Garrett's fault but if it is positive then Garrett had nothing to do with it. I would argue that Romo is no longer a gunslinger but more of a calculated risk taker.

With all that being said who would be your choice to replace Garrett?

It's so funny, you got so twisted up in your own thinking that you are missing blatant sarcasm. Here, let me walk you through this so you understand. You said earlier in this thread that Garrett has played a critical hand in the draft and managing the salary cap, both of which were used as justification of his awesomeness and to keep him around. First, both claims are absurd, as he has virtually zero input in the final decisions, let alone playing a critical role in either process. But, let's play out your fantasy here for a little bit and assume he has been on lead in the salary cap decisions....THAT IS AN AREA THAT IS AN UNDENIABLE DISASTER. So, if you want him to get credit for what he's done in that area, then look objectively for a moment at the position we are in. If he's responsible for being $31 million over the cap for 2014 with no chance of landing any decent FAs unless we continue the path of restructure/defer, then that's all the more reason to can his ### yesterday. But, that is not on Garrett. I will defend him here, as he has had no substantial role in this process. That is all Jerry and I suspect with the encouragement of his incompetent son, Stephen, in destroying this team's viability past the current crop of players, who collectively are mediocre at best.

Regarding the mental gymnastics with Garrett, Callahan, and the defense, I understand this is a dicey equation to handle, and if you don't get there, it's ok. But, the bottom line is it is very hard to take seriously a comment like "Garrett is getting better" when the only argument you have is that the offense is better now...now that he is less involved (e.g., he no longer calls the plays). This is a completely orthogonal issue to how the defense has suffered, consistently so throughout the year. Garrett's role as a head coach is big picture stuff. Don't let your team suck should be the first rule of thumb as a head coach, and efforts should be geared to meet that basic goal. If you would like me to give him credit for relinquishing his playcalling duties on offense so that they could get better, you're not going to get that because he didn't relinquish them. Jerry took those keys away from him. But, he is the head coach and responsible for big picture concepts across all phases, and he clearly has been ineffective at working with Kiffin and the other coaches on the defensive side of the ball to affect change/improvement. I'm not sure if he's been uninvolved or whether his ideas have been implemented and failed. But, ultimately, he is responsible for the mess they are in and yet again another 8-8 season, one in which they didn't play a team .500 or better and win all season.

I'll give credit to Garrett when he's earned it. Ironically, the one thing you want to applaud here is the offense that was taken away from him. And, let me add that with improvements on offense, I still think they have to run more, and their neglect of the running game has cost them wins, with poor time management, poor second half concepts, and you can see the serious ripple effects their approach to offense has had in the defense.

ETA2, I don't know enough about who is available to coach to suggest a replacement. I can tell you, I'd rather have Barry Switzer come back and coach the 2014 Cowboys than I would Garrett, if that gives you any indication of where he should rank on the food chain.

This is pretty much how I see it as well. Although, Orton is not very fleet of foot. Romo has been able to create while avoiding the sack. At times the blitz overwhelms our blockers. This is hopefully where paying for Orton's experience comes in. He'll need to get rid of the ball quickly at times. He's gonna need to play a very smart game for us to have a shot.

The D obviously has its work cut out for it. Gotta get more pressure on the QB. This has been killing us! Time for Ware to step up. If Foles is comfortable in the pocket, he'll pick us apart. Then we gotta contain Shady...........ugh. Sure would be nice to have Lee on the field, dang it.

If he's responsible for being -$31 million over the cap with no chance of landing any decent FAs then that's all the more reason to can him.

Don't let your team suck should be the motto and he should do things that meet that basic goal. I do think Garrett plays a pivotal role in the draft process, as far as contract extensions and what not go I don't think he plays really any role other than telling Jerry Jones I would like this guy back if back or we should cut this guy. You will get no argument from me on contracts/cap situation. Dallas is against a rock and hard place to what I attribute to Jerry Jones and his overpaying/sense of loyalty to veterans. As far as head coach and responsibilities goes lets take a minute and look at Garretts background. He was the quarterback coach for the dolphins and then offensive coordinator for the Cowboys before ultimately becoming the head coach. Where in his wide breadth of experience do you expect to him learn defense? A great parallel to me is Sean Payton. Was he responsible for all the defensive failures in New Orleans and a bad coach? Or was it just a coincidence that when they won the Superbowl they actually had an established defensive coordinator.

Not surprised that you cannot name a replacement for Garrett like many of your solutions for the Cowboys you have no answer or realistic solution and instead choose to complain incessantly.

Merry Christmas Simmon and Cobalt! You guys are both passionate fans.................I think we all can agree on that.

It would have been a lot easier and less time consuming if you asked me to name the folks I would NOT want over Jason Garrett. As of now, I can think of only one: Wayne Fontes.

Oh, totally. I'm with you there.

Jon Kitna signed as backup to Orton and Romo. Murray will be happy if Kitna has to go in, as they(hopefully) will just run, run, run.

The Cowboys are donating the NFC East title for a 3rd straight year, which IMO, is much more generous.
We'll see. The eagles havent won a whole lot more than they've lost this season. Its not like they are some incredible team.

Maybe the eagles are overlooking the Cowboys just like the eagles fans. Stinkin dirty eagles!

I highly doubt the team is overlooking the last game of the season with the title on the line. And you are right, its not like the Eagles are that great, it's just that that Defense in Dallas is turrible. Hurrible too.

You are right, they are turrible. But, all it takes is D.Ware or Hatcher to get loose. Or a key turnover, etc...... Also, didnt the Cassel-led Vikes drop like 50 on the eagles without ADP and Gerhart, like two weeks ago?

Look, I think its a decent bet to take the eagles on sunday. But, you eagles fans are talking like they've already won. How sweet it would be if da 'Boys pull it out like prom night!

And you wonder why everyone calls philly fans the worst. Why come in this thread and troll? Oh yea because your an Eagles fan and not used to winning. Only time you saw Eagles hoist the Lombardi trophy was on your Xbox.

Did the Eagles build a prison in their new stadium for their fabulous fans like the one they had at Veterans? Just curious.

-7 with o/u at 53.5. 8 out of the 16 games this week are -7 or more. Hardly a sure thing, both teams are predicted to put up large numbers and that ball sure bounces funny sometimes.

There is no justifiable reason the Cowboys should win today. Lost quarterbacks on both offensive and defensive side, our coach is overmatched by the rookie HC on other sideline, defense is atrocious and playing against most complete offense in NFC. Everything points to Philly blowout.

Which, as the NFL works sometimes, is the reason to pick the Cowboys. They have a knack for winning bizarre games you expect them to lose nearly at the rate of games they lose under bizarre circumstances that seem like otherwise straight forward games they should win.

Cowboys 28

Eagles 25

I hear ya. I think this could easily be a blowout if the Cowboys are stagnant on offense. BUT, I also have a gut feeling that Romo's toughness has these guys fired up to win the East. He led the team to victory after the herniated disk. Then he tried to play this week. For everything the guy is, or isnt, theres not doubt he's a warrior. This kinda thing cant be underestimated in team sports. That said, not executing on the field or sidelines cant be overlooked either. Which the Cowboys have been known to do.

Orton is competent. The running game has been good. I'm by no means optimistic, but I see a glimmering hope. And I dont even care about the playoffs. Just wanna beat those stinkin eagles to shut em up!

You are going to look back on this prediction as if you had too much eggnog the night before. I hope you are right but I just don't see the Ciwboys holding the Eagles to 25 points. I woukd think the Cowboys would have to score in the 40s to win this game and I just don't see it happening.
