Isnt AQ Shipley the Ravens backup C now? It wouldve been nice if he was still around these days.
don't be silly. He has short arms.Isnt AQ Shipley the Ravens backup C now? It wouldve been nice if he was still around these days.
Get the talented rooks out there and see what they can do - there is no reason not too.3C said:Jarvis hinting that he is the starter for Monday night. D needs to create some turnovers so maybe this will help. No news on Cortez since they're not required to file a practice report today.
I don't think anybody was happy with the Haley hire outside of steelers offices. His system didn't fit the personnel. His personality clashes with the franchise player. He did well with Kurt Warner and Fitz. So could I.
Is true blood still a free agent?
No posts in 5-days!Agreed. After a great rookie campaign Pouncey has definitely fallen off a bit. He is still a decent player and no doubt the Steelers are going to miss him but Velasco, a guy that was sitting at home a week ago, was rated higher last season than Pouncey. Is it me or have some people turned Pouncey into Mike Webster?
More than anything, the line just needs to stay healthy for an extended period of time so they can develop some chemistry and consistency. That is a luxury that they have not had in the past few seasons.Agreed. After a great rookie campaign Pouncey has definitely fallen off a bit. I will be watching Velasco but my guess is that he will do just fine and not having Pouncey won't be the reason should the Steelers lose tonight.
:New to me as well. I am happy with this though. Mostly because I think they need to play Beachum at TE.Velasco starting? Just heard on NFL network.
Moment of silence for those involved in the naval yard shootings before game.
ETA: guess Velasco news is old. New to me. ::
Much less worried about the C position after the signed Velasco. He will be at least competent. I expect a win tonight 10-3. The TD being scored by the D.Agreed. Any chance you can root for a different team?irish eyes said:Steeler offense is Jacksonville bad, when are they going to do something. Ben should just go out & call plays @#$@ haley.

Wait, you mean they actually might work on some of their weakest facets in the preseason games and have bad outcomes as such?Oh, and those calling for Danny Smith's head in preseason...how about now? Two (well 1.5) good games so far from STs.
These top oline picks recently have not impressed me at all (pouncey included in recent years). Hopefully all the talk of chemistry and such is true and this oline can improve, but at this point they have shown nothing at all.Im honestly thinking at this point the Steelers wouldve been better off not wasting 4 top-2 round draft picks on the OL the last few years. They couldve spent middle round picks on OL and it couldnt look any worse than this, and Velasco didnt look like the problem tonight.
What can/should Haley do if the oline sucks?Oh i guess it's not haley's fault.
Not that I'm convinced they'll be great but remember that both Adams (8 starts) and Decastro (5) are essentially rookies are far as starts and games played. Gilbert is the only one I'm thinking right now as possibly a bust but I guess even he only has so much playing time under his belt.Im honestly thinking at this point the Steelers wouldve been better off not wasting 4 top-2 round draft picks on the OL the last few years. I hope you are right, but all three of those guys seem to get whipped physically in one on one situations too often... seems more physical than mental lapses to me... and you can't teach athleticism. Not that I'm convinced they'll be great but remember that both Adams (8 starts) and Decastro (5) are essentially rookies are far as starts and games played. Been watching the Steelers fairly steadily since 1977, and I can't recall a worse playcall. An end around with Cotchery.
Velasco may have been the best OLineman last night. The Steelers clearly outplayed by Cincinnati last night. It is mind boggling how poor this offensive line is at run blocking. Aside from a few draws there really wasn't much out there.
However as badly as they were whooped, two plays really made a huge difference: The fumble by Paulson was brutal. He needs to learn to protect the ball when he's about to be hit -- and why we didn't hurry up and spike the ball was really stupid. The other play was the tripping call on Gilbert that wiped out a 30+ yard gain. I know you have to overcome bad calls but that was a terrible call on the part of the official.
On the positive side I don't think there were any serious injuries and Velasco seemed to play very well considering it was his first start and going up a pretty good defensive front.
Two sacks total I think and one of them is on Ben (trying to be Ben). Just get rid of the ball already!play Markus Wheaton you f'in idiots. What the hell are they waiting for with these rookies? Let them take their lumps and get better, quickly.
There's not many more young guys to get out there really. Bell and Wheaton would be about it. Bell once he's healthy will be out there. Wheaton will get his shots. Cotch may be "old" but he's a solid route runner and (usually) sure handed. Good to see Moye get a little time last night. If they could ever get in the red zone he does look to be a good threat.Hopefully they will play the young guys more as the season continues to slip away
)Not sure what was 'awful' about his preseason but ok.re: Wheaton
James C Wexell @jimwexell 49m
Did any of those calling for Markus Wheaton to save the day actually watch his awful preseason?
Ray Fittipaldo @rayfitt1 40m
Don't know if Wheaton is answer for the offense but coaches don't apparently think so. After playing 7 snaps vs. Tenn he played 5 vs. Cincy
And for my Gilbert "hate"
Ray Fittipaldo @rayfitt1 45m
According to @PFF, Marcus Gilbert had highest grade of any O-lineman. Mike Adams the worst, no sacks allowed but 4 hurries and 2 hits on Ben
(I'm not buying it)
He had some drops in the preseason but he made some nice catches too. He may not be ready to take on the #3 role but overall I thought he looked pretty good during preseason. Not sure what was 'awful' about his preseason but ok.re: Wheaton

It's Wexell. Sometimes I wonder if he's watching the same game/team/players others are. He did have a drop I remember that kind of stood out but he did make some plays including a long TD.Not sure what was 'awful' about his preseason but ok.re: Wheaton

oooh im telling Bracie what you said!I wasn't thrilled with the Jones pick but I've come around on it. Very impressed with his first start
Change the scheme to one that actually suits his personnel. What can/should Haley do if the oline sucks?Oh i guess it's not haley's fault.

Oh, God....no. Not more of those. They ran, like, 8 of those last night(they are a Haley staple). I think one resulted in positive yards.Get some screens going.
I love screen passes in the right circumstances but against that defense they were not working.Oh, God....no. Not more of those. They ran, like, 8 of those last night(they are a Haley staple). I think one resulted in positive yards.Get some screens going.
