*** 2013 Official Pittsburgh Steelers Off & ON Season Thread *** (2 Viewers)

Bell got his left knee dinged up on Monday during one of the live tackling sessions. Problem with live tackling at training camp #Steelers

Dale Lolley @dlolleyor 1h
Tomlin said he did not see enough from Bell this week to play him. Will have enough remainder of preseason to evaluate the rookie #Steelers

Can someone tell me why our ST coach from last year isnt here any more?? I dont remember many problems/penalties. Our first cut should be that coach. It was only 2-3 years ago where they switched ST coaches in the preseason so this wouldnt be a first.

The bright spot so far I think is LSH. Looked like he had great vision - and patience at times. The OL looks very much improved, but I liked what I saw of him. Sucks that we can't see what Bell has though. I'm more confident having LSH as the backup rather than Redman/Dwyer.

Good lord. Tomlin needs to send this coach out of Heinz Field right now.

Al Woods looked really good. Ta'amu made a nice showing. Golden played well but needs to learn how to catch. Starting OL was decent, thought Adams had a good night, Foster let one through, Decastro  , Gilbert :wall: .Wheaton is impressive. Shamarko made a play or two but he's definitely not there yet. 6th round pick Williams played well.

Looks like Wexell disagrees with my feeling on Gilbert.

Then again he gives a "gold" to Troy who was also guilty of bad coverage on the Cruz TD.

Do they have Beilar back in camp this year?

ETA: just looked it up and see he's in the battle for WR5. Remember following him a couple years ago to see if he might stick as a deep sleeper.

Oh, and I'm hating the kickoff rule. Why not just place the ball at the 20 on every possession? Get rid of kickoffs entirely.

No idea who you're talking about.

Whimper is now a guard. Maybe he can be serviceable there.
I dunno but they have some serious depth issues on the line. I know they were down on Legursky but right now there really isn't a backup center on the team. I have also heard that Starks wanted a starting gig but damn it would sure be nice to have him as a backup tackle.

Beachum is the answer. He's the backup C, G, T. Joe Long is playing fairly well from what I've read. Cheadle may be ok. These 3 plus Whimper are probably the backups this year. Starks...he's good but he can't move and with them going ZBS (some) he just doesn't fit. Still would rather have him than Batiste.

Well he isnt starting for SD so I dont understand why we didnt try harder to bring him back, namely because our backups in general suck ###

This offensive line is just painful to watch. Unless we can get about 3 or 4 Will Johnson's I don't see Ben making it through another season. :scared:

I think we are in for a long dismal season Steeler fans. I hope I'm wrong but wow, this is hard to watch. That Oline may actually be worse than last year.

I really hope that they can find a roster spot for Reggie Dunn. When he actually gets a chance to return one, he accelerates quickly and hits the hole decisively at full speed.

Todd haley equals failure, it's painful to watch his play calling. There is a reason KC fired him...HE SUCKS..what are they not seeing!

Will we ever see a pass over 5 yards again steeler fans??? How does haley have a job, with him we are looking at 6-10 at best. Eventually will cost tomlin his job too.

How does haley have a job,
Hold on a sec tiger...

Our passing was just fine last year. Even with Wallace half-a55ing it.

Furthermore Ben was taking a lot less hits and sacks. And we were winning until Ben got hurt.

For you to think the Steelers dont typically look like #### at times in the preseason is beyond comprehension.

New system for entire pass offense through 8 games (Ben was hurt in 9th) in 2012...

275 yards per game.

67% completion.

16 TD vs. 4 Int

5-3 with arguably no run game.

18 sacks (in 8 games, incl 5 opening nite against Von Miller and Denver) which is a pace of 36. Down 17% from each 2010 & 2011.

This I do currently agree with.

Even with a short pass game our line is having issues maintaining a block even for a couple seconds.

Especially the interior line.

@SigmundBloom: Commence ADP freefall. RT @injuryexpert Bad news on Le'Veon Bell. Midfoot sprain is going to keep him out weeks on the low end.
Oh mother ####

:kicksrock:
That's nothing more than speculation at this point...but as has been noted, a mid foot sprain could mean lisfranc (but that too is speculation). We'll know soon. MRI in a few hours.

While I like what I've heard about Bell what I've seen of Dwyer this year looks good. Add in LSH and they should be fine no matter what the prognosis is on Bell.

As was said, the penalties were concerning. The turnovers were not good. The int Ben threw is kind of a flukey thing though. The oline play (cmon Pouncey!) was not good. All things that will hopefully get fixed. Definitely some positives in the game. All of the draft picks had their moments/made some plays. Whimper looks as bad at guard as he did at tackle.

I'm not concerned about the play of the offense (minus the O line). Remember, it is pre-season and they aren't really playing to win. They are calling plays to see who can do what, etc..., not to necessarily "win".

The offense/play calling was fine last year until Ben got hurt. As said, what does concern me is the offensive line and the penalties. I heard Tomlin was going to have NFL refs attend their practices this week so they can better educate the players as to what/why they are being called. Hopefully it helps.

Defense looks ok, not overly concerned.

Special teams looked better, although thats not hard to do after the first game.

Still time to work out the kinks. Don't be so pessimistic after two pre-season games fellas.

Considering the rest of ST looks like ###, it would be smart to keep Dunn around so at least we're better than average in some facet of ST.

Same as last preseason. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice....

I hear you, but an oline with 2 first and 2 second round picks shouldn't get their asses handed to them in any situation whether they are game-planning or not. Given the pedigree of the line it should be dominant not a question mark. If this line, given the amount of picks/money they have invested, doesn't play well it could take the Steelers years to recover. Is that too pessimistic for you ;-)

Yes. One of the worst players along the line last night was Pouncey and we know he's better than that.

Give the OL some time to mesh together. DeCastro only played three games, Gilbert missed what the whole season, Adams most of the season and he is now playing LT and Foster switched positions too. Pouncey is basically the only player in the same position as last year and he was the biggest problem last night..

I was willing to give Landry Jones the benefit of the doubt before Monday's game.

But after that putrid display, he can pack his bags now as far as I'm concerned.

@EdBouchette: @ziojean: @EdBouchette Why no Stephens-Howling in last game? He was probably one of the best news in game1 ... Knee strain per M Tomlin
