2014 Oakland Raiders Regular Season Thread (1 Viewer)

i don't even bother watching the games any more. i was more interested in the preseason than the regular season. and to think i was going to go to this game. dodged a bullet there. the last 12 years have more or less turned me off from football. i still watch because of FF, but i mostly did yard work this week. :bag:

Getting ahead of ourselves, but in the event Mariota falls in our lap, I'd imagine he'd have huge value on a trade down. I am ready to say DCarr is our long term answer to our QB quagmire.

LOL! I was just thinking that this means the end for the Derek Carr love. New coach means new QB...always. Why would any player want to play for a franchise that is so inept? There is no security there as a player.

My eyes tell me Carr has a chance to be a quality NFL QB if he has some talent around him. And that is exactly what the Raiders need: more talent. They do not have the luxury of spending another high draft pick on the QB position when they have so many other needs. First and foremost is more player makers on offense.

Who would you say is a playmaker on the team right now? James Jones is the only person remotely showing the ability to make a play. Everyone else is either old or has "potential." And potential only means you haven't done it yet. They should be playing Murray over DMC and MJD, move on from D.Moore and evaluate the remaining WRs.

This is correct. And, has been the problem for many years. The Raiders lack talent all over the field. A new and better coach would help but to really compete every Sunday, the Raiders need a lot more talent.

Isn't it the GMs job to put the product on the field? It just the coaches job to coach what he is given. Seems like the GM should be sent packing if anything. Oakland hasn't had any good players since...since...???...Tim Brown?

Coaches get paid to make players better. They haven't done that. If they are awful, make them bad. If they are bad, make them mediocre. This team is bad and playing terrible, not the other way around.

 
They need leadership in the worst way. The Raiders have to find a coach and/or GM to change the losing culture. Just like Al did in the 60s and Gruden did in the 90s. The million dollar question is: Who is that person?

When it comes to talent evaluation I really gotta wonder what they are thinking. Until Carr fell into their lap look at McKenzie's QB choices.... Matt Flynn, Tyler Wilson, Matt Schaub. Total head scratchers. But I guess that's what you get when you hire a former LB to evaluate QB talent.

I was screaming at them before the snap on that play. This happened multiple times or they would be setup in a wide run D when Miami would be sporting a I-formation. Also, when I can spot the screen pass before the snap from the third deck, they should notice to. Nope, The DEs would just burst to the QB and a dump to Miller or Wallace happened.

The people around me in the stands seemed to enjoy the game but not all knew everything about the sport, so I was explaining why everything being done sucked and what they should be doing instead. By the 2nd quarter Miami was sitting so heavy in the mid field that if they would have just ran a out and up to Jones we could have only lost by 20. Especially in the late 1st quarter and early second they needed to air it out more beyond the standard check downs. Why be scared of throwing it down field, especially when that worked the few times they did, when you know you can't win with this D anyway. At least let the young guys have some freedom and learn. Our D pressure was just bad. We blitz a little but it was obviously never in the correct spots. They need a leader calling the audibles to make those adjustments because I could spot the running lane before the snap, that's not good.

The stadium was fantastic and the atmosphere around and inside Wembley was great. The pregame festivities lead to a all day block party essential with 15K people and then something like 83K for the game. The place exploded at three points during the game. The first play with Jones making the sweet one handed catch along the sideline, the second being the opening TD, and the third being the Raiderette's doing a dance routine to Talk Dirty between the 3rd and 4th quarters. Some of them have/had bright futures ahead of them.

We need a new Coach/GM, that is all.

My kids always ask which team "we're" rooting for when they see me watching sports. When the Raiders are on, I try to talk them into rooting for the other team. I don't want them subjected to a life of being a Raiders fan.

I said the same exact thing in this or another thread. I don't want my 2 sons to be subjected to this crap the same way I have for the past 30 years.

Like the Seahawks? Sure thing.

Dig the Bengals helmets? Why not. Go for it.

I only draw the line with them rooting for the Broncos or Chiefs. They've been brainwashed to hate them already but I know they're scratching their heads as to "why is Daddy rooting for the Raiders". I don't blame 'em.

Sad to say but I am probably 5 times more interested in the results of my 4 fantasy football teams than I am in the Raiders winning or losing. That's how low it can go.

As an aside, remember the good vibes after the "moral victory" loss in New England? Yeah, the Raiders aren't better than we thought. The Patriots are much, MUCH worse than anyone thought.

Absolutely!

It helps teams get higher picks because they usually lose the rest of their games. So at least Oakland will have the #1 pick.

But for real, firing Allen and not McKenzie is bat-crap crazy. McKenzie let their only two franchise players go in free agency when they had $60M in cap space to use. And he's had atrocious drafts. Pretty unreal. Laughingstock of the league right now.

I'm sure Allen will catch on pretty quickly as an assistant coach or coordinator.

 
I like the idea of giving the helm to Sparano for the rest of the season. He's not Vince Lombardi, but he's cut from the same cloth as Tom Cable, which means that even if the team is bad, they will be mentally tough and they'll play hard. If Olson gets the gig, it will be difficult to watch another game this year.

An advantage of getting rid of a coach early is that the team can start talking to potential head coaches before other NFL teams. Can't talk to anyone on other NFL coaching staffs, but can start talking to unemployed coaches, and come December or so can start talking to college coaches when their schedules are done.

Granted, you could wait until December to do that and still have a leg up on other NFL teams.

Why? After finishing Dungy's job in his first season in Tampa Bay[SIZE=14.2857141494751px], with a team he had very little to do with constructing, [/SIZE]he went 45-51 over the next 6 seasons while going 0-2 in the playoffs.

He may be the next **** Vermeil but that is asking a lot.

People really need to drop this idea. Gruden, like Cowher, would be a fool to take another coaching job. They are making big money in their current positions without the stress. If Gruden had that competitive desire still burning he would have already taken another job.

I think Reggie needs to go as well, but to say his drafts have been atrocious is just ignorant. Sio, Mack, Carr and Gabe Jackson are all solid picks. The jury is still out on Hayden, and I think McGill could contribute. Quite frankly I would trust Reggie over Al to make the correct picks.

How many former coaches have sat out as long as Gruden and returned? There is a reason, that competitive fire doesn't burn as strong.
