2014 Oakland Raiders Regular Season Thread (1 Viewer)

No argument that Reggie had a solid draft last year, but his free agency strategy was an abysmal failure.
I disagree if you look at the big picture. Not saying it was a huge success so far, but I don't see any albatross contracts, so that in and of itself is a positive development compared to Al's approach. Reggie is employing the Green Bay strategy: build through the draft and only make splash signings when high character, blue-chip free agents are available and willing to come to your organization.

We have very different definitions of success. The team is 0-10 and headed for a historical worst season ever for the franchise. Success is determined by Ws not the ability to get out of bad contracts quickly.

This is a myopic outlook. Reggie's big failure in my opinion was hiring Dennis Allen. I'm in favor of giving him one more coaching hire and two more seasons to continue to turn things around. Operative word being "continue." In the last three years we've gone from having the worst cap situation in the league (by far) to the best (by far). We've added a centerpiece defensive player, a seemingly legit young QB and a few other notable young talents. We're well ahead of where we were two years ago, the 0-10 record notwithstanding.

What Reggie needs is money to hire a real head coach, further investment in scouting and a solution to the dismal stadium situation. Then we can truly decide if he's earned his keep.

Hiring Allen was only one of his failures. His ability to evaluate FAs is another big failure. And 2013 draft class does not appear to be headed for success. In fact, I can legitimately argue that Reggie"s ONLY success was his draft from last year.

What evidence do you have that he will make a better head coach hire if given another chance? What evidence do you have that given a large salary cap again that he will make better FA signings next year?

Just the fact that he thinks Vincent Brown is a viable NFL WR should tell you all you need to know about his ability to judge talent.

You have to start something to continue it. I disagree that the team is well ahead of where they were two years ago. Bottom line is he has been here 3 years and the roster is the worst in the NFL by far. The team is the worst in the league and its not really that close. I can't get excited that he can get rid of the guys he signed because they suck with no cap implications. I'd much rather he signed guys worth keeping.

I disagree about the 2013 draft. Since coming back Hayden has played good. He is by no means a stud yet but he has helped the secondary since coming back. Watson is slowly getting better and better each game. Lets not forget that Watson only played 2 years of football before being drafted by the Raiders. Finally Sio Moore the Raiders 3rd round pick has been playing really good and he keeps getting better and better. Him and Mack will make an excellent OLB duo for years to come.

Tuck just told Moore he wanted to fight him when he called the timeout

“@JDJohnDickinson: CWood to Sio in locker room about 3rd down celebration, "What the hell were y'all doing?!" #Raiders”-- That was hilarious

Sio Moore’s reply: “You know how they say act like you’ve been there before … I haven’t.” Locker room erupted in laughter

Is it bad that my ONLY hope for this week is "Don't get embarrassed on national television." :(
well seeing that Jamal AND K.Davis will probably put up over 200 yards im guessing all hope is lost
Is it bad that, if KC were to ever score on us (as if! :) ), then I want it to be Jamaal to score for KC since I have him on 2 of my 4 fantasy teams?

That's the state of my Raider fandom over this past decade+...
I'm in the exact same boat. Own him in 2 leagues. Bittersweet if he scores, I guess.
Same here I own him in 2 leagues as well. I always hope to get my cake and eat it too. I hope for a Raiders win but for Charles to do well.
Well at least you will get half of what you are looking for.
A Raiders win? :P
CAKE AND EAT IT TOO!!!!!! :)

And, of course, it was great to see Murray do so well. Dude blew up. Hope he's ok.

And how great was it to see the Raiders turn to Reese as the main RB for the last key TD drive. He is just SO much better than McFadden and MJD. Every time in the past few years that the Raiders have been "forced" to run Reese as a RB instead of a FB, he's simply produced. If Murray isn't back next week, START Reese!

fun game to watch!! team looked fired up to play. nice to see tuck finally show up.

i swear we could run this team as well or better than the current coaching staff. we've all been screaming for murray and reese(for years) to get the damn ball, the team looked the best when those two had the ball. mjd should never see the field again imho.

woot woot!! :banned:

The Raiders should invest in the OL in next years draft and give Murray a shot. This would make it easier on Carr as well plus give your best playmaker (murray) the best chance to succeed. They'll probably draft a RB with the first pick though watch. It's to bad because if they get the #1 pick they could trade it and get an extra 1st next year plus a 3rd this year from a QB needy team and build that OL up pretty easily.

Happy to see the Raaaaiderrrrs get in the win column. It's been a god awful season but congrats on the win guys. Things can only get better from here!

Man, if you guys have found your QB, RB, and linebacking corps, and have the first overall pick there might be some good years comin' in Oakland. Or L.A. or San Antonio. Wherever.

Agreed, I'd just like to see them build up the parts of the team that are weaker than O-line:

WR

WR

DE

DE

DT

DT

MLB

CB

CB

FS

TE

Let us try not to get ahead of ourselves. We have had more than a decade of this kind of thinking only to implode.

Isn't anyone mad that it took this long to give Murray a shot with the ineptitude week in and week out McFadden/MJD put on the field?

6th round picks:

Latavius Murray

Mychal Rivera

Stacy McGee

7th round pick:

Brice Butler

I wonder how many teams had 6th and 7th rounders that we might prefer to the Raiders picks.

Give us a few hours to enjoy the win, k?

i promise the misery will be back soon, but just a few hours, what you say?

I thought Kasa was our 6th rounder, and McGee was our 7th? And while I'm happy we got Murray, let's not forget we passed on Andre Ellington for all these guys. But enjoy the win. Carry on.

The later rounds are tough to nit pick. It is the years of awful drafting in the first 2 rounds that have destroyed the Raiders for the last decade.
