Maybe, maybe not. One thing that I consider to be a universal truth in the NFL is the arrogance of GMs and coaches and their belief that they can take the player they love and turn them into an all time great. All it takes is one of 31 GM/Coaches to fall in love with Mariota to give the Raiders an enormous windfall of picks. Maybe it won't be an RGIII windfall, but maybe GMs view Mariota as a safer prospect (has he lost a season to an ACL tear?) so it could be bigger. Either way they could garner an incredible windfall, one greater than what they get from holding onto him and trying to dish Carr.

 
If they can get a 2nd for Carr they should take that and spring to the podium with Mariotta's name on the card. Otherwise you gotta move the pick for whatever you can and get someone top 5 like Cooper or Gregory/Williams.

We know this now? And even if that were true guys like Flacco and Eli aren't elite either.

Andrew Luck would like a word with you. The flaw wasn't in the concept, it was in the player. That's like saying because Jamarcus Russell bombed that no other QB will go #1 overall. If the guy is the right guy, he'll command the price. Draft picks bust sometimes, it comes with the territory, but you don't win without a QB so teams that need one will pay to get them.

And what of McKenzie?

Also I take it if this happens Harbs wouldn't be going there unless he really believed the Raiders weren't moving.

 
Jax winning helped us as well.

And the Raiders being historically horrible doesn't hurt our draft position either.

Yeah I've seen enough. Looks just like his brother out there. Davante Adams was the reason he put up numbers in college, not the other way around.

I point out the clowns and losers.

 
I think the worst part about today is that I am not shocked at all and have gotten to the point of just chalking it up as another loss. I used to get all jacked up for every Raider game. Now I am more into tracking my fantasy teams. Results like today are now just expected and you shrug and move on to the next loss.

Jury is still out IMHO. Carr looks decent when given enough time to throw. Not as good checking down through all of his progressions (which is teachable). Terrible in effectiveness under pressure, which is the area I really worry about as I am not sure that's as teachable. Carr looks terror-stricken when the pocket is collapsing, and all his mechanics and poise seems to collapse with it.

I do agree that what we're seeing is a QB who is likely going to be better than anyone we've had in a while (he's already that) but not an elite QB who can make up for weaknesses elsewhere.

That may be good enough, but only if we succeed in getting the right pieces around Carr quickly. Unfortunately, there are so many holes to plug in this dam, Carr might not have that chance.

I'm right there with you. Heck, my two young sons and I were bonding and watching the game together today and, at halftime, I suggested they just put on a movie instead. I surfed on my iPad to track my fantasy teams scores instead. So over being emotionally attached to anything like a sports team. The Me from 10 years ago (pre-kids) would be shocked by that statement.

The raiders haven't made the playoffs in ages but 3 of my 4 fantasy teams did. Victory! :)

Amen, brother. Let's not forget Garner's thunder counterpart of Wheatley, and Crockett, the Stripe Hammer of the Gods. And the WR tandem of Rice and Brown. Big Linc and Robbins up front. That was a killer offense. And while the D wasn't all-world, we still had Rod Woodson and Romanowski.

Makes me cry thinking about the delta between then and, well, since.

 
Am I nuts to think that we'd have 4-6 wins right now if McGloin had played every game? There's nothing special about him, but he's a gunslinger ... I liken him to a Fitzpatrick type. Not afraid to try to squeeze throws into tight windows downfield. And of course had Murray been starting since week 1, we'd be going to the playoffs. :)

I don't think they would have anymore wins because the talent just isn't there at the skill positions. You're right McGloin has a gun slinger mentality, but that ultimately leads to forced balls, that lead to turnovers. Give Carr a threat at RB and a WR that forces double coverage then we can make a judgement on his future.

Agreed. I actually like how Carr takes care of the ball despite having such crappy position players. It's a good sign IMO. The first San Diego game sold me on his ability/willingness to sling it if he had a better crew.

Raiders have not checked out on the season, Whole bunch of other teams have.

Redskins, Bears, Jets, are in the process of quitting.

I am guessing that the Raiders will temporarily have the 4th overall pick due to the hard schedule at least until the Jags and Titans play next week.
