Asante Samuel, Stephen Nicholas cut Wed Feb 5, 02:48 PM

The Atlanta Falcons have released CB Asante Samuel and LB Stephen Nicholas.

speculation:

Unlikely to offer Miles Austin a pay cut Fri Feb 7, 07:04 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to offer WR Miles Austin a pay cut in order to remain with the team. The team is expected to release Austin at some point this offseason

SAINTS clean house:

Make roster moves Wed Feb 12, 05:54 PM

The New Orleans Saints released SS Roman Harper, DE Will Smith and CB Jabari Greer Wednesday, Feb. 12. The team also will not re-sign LB Jonathan Vilma.

Will release Nate Burleson Thu Feb 13, 01:53 PM

The Detroit Lions have informed WR Nate Burleson that he will be released Thursday, Feb. 13.

Footballguys view: While Burleson is an aging veteran, this is a bit of an odd move as the Lions have nobody else beyond Calvin Johnson. They must feel really good about Ryan Broyles or have plans to go after someone in free agency.

He was due 5.5. They can get a rookie in the 2nd round that won't cost that much for 4 years. And this class is deep.

Chargers released FB Le'Ron McClain.

McClain was set to count over $3 million against the cap in the final year of his contract. The Bolts save $2.5 million with the move. In coach Mike McCoy's first year running the offense, McClain, 29, saw his snaps reduced significantly. It was an easy call for GM Tom Telesco. Due to his still relatively young age and just one career game missed, McClain is now the top free agent lead blocker. He can also handle the rock. It's a position that isn't used much anymore.
Eagles released WR Jason Avant.

This move was fully expected, as Avant was due a $1 million roster bonus on March 15. In total, the Eagles save $3.25 million against the 2014 cap. Avant, 31 next month, is a strong leader in the locker room and has a pair of sticky mitts but isn't a playmaker and can't stretch the field. At this stage of his career, he'd ideally be a No. 4 receiver on a one-year deal close to the veteran's minimum.
Lions released G/C Leroy Harris.

Harris was owed a $1.85 million base salary in addition to an offseason roster bonus of $100,000. He only played on special teams in 2013 with Detroit, as the Lions' starting offensive line stayed healthy. Harris is only 30 years old and has versatility, so he should draw some interest as an interior reserve elsewhere.
Jaguars released RG Uche Nwaneri.

Nwaneri, 30 later this month, started all 16 games last season and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 16 right guard. He's spent his entire seven-year career with the Jaguars since being a fifth-round pick in 2007 and has started 92 games. His release saves the Jaguars $3.705 million, leaving Jacksonville with over $60 million in cap space. The Jaguars now need a starting right guard, left guard, and center. Left tackle Luke Joeckel is their only locked-in starter.

Chargers released CB Derek Cox.

Cox inked a four-year, $20 million contract on the second day of free agency last year and received $10.25 million guaranteed for one season of utterly mediocre play. The Chargers save $4.25 million in cash but are eating $3.9 million in dead money against the cap. The move clears just $1.65 million in cap space. Cox was benched multiple times last season. He was deemed expendable for a team that really needs corner help. Cox is still just 27 years old.
Redskins released DE Adam Carriker.

This move was fully expected and saves the Redskins $2.989 million against the cap. Carriker is still working his way back from three surgeries on his right quad that have caused him to miss the past 30 games. Carriker, the 13th overall pick by the Rams in 2007, admits he's not yet 100 percent but expects to be ready for training camp. He'll have to prove he's healthy before landing a deal.

Vikings released TE John Carlson.

Chargers waived CB Johnny Patrick.

Redskins waived/released RB Jawan Jamison, RB Davin Meggett, and TE Richard Quinn.

Redskins released P Sav Rocca.

Didn't see this in here:

Seahawks cut Red Bryant and Sidney Rice.

My take:

Red Bryant might get some action because he is a solid DE in a 3-4 rotation with someone else who will rush the passer. Unfortunately for Red, he offers next to nothing for pass rush. Sidney Rice might have some appeal to teams looking to fill out their roster but since he is often injured he would be difficult to rely on for weekly production. Still, his numbers underwhelmed in the Seattle run-oriented game and he could be a sneaky fantasy add for cheap provided he goes somewhere and gets regular playing time.
