2015 ACC Basketball - CLOSED (use 2016 thread now) (1 Viewer)

Story if you don't feel like clicking through:

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior guard Rasheed Sulaimon has been dismissed from the Duke basketball program as announced by head coach Mike Krzyzewski Thursday. Sulaimon remains in good academic standing and is expected to finish the spring semester.

“Rasheed has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program,” said Krzyzewski. “It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner. After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.”

Keep an eye on this one. Its starting to creep out on twitter. This was a sexual assault case. And let's just say Coach K was slow to act on this one. This one could blow up.

Slow to act huh? You clearly have no clue what has transpired in Durham. Yes, this hurts Duke, they are down to 8 scholarship players. But proud of K, man has standards, he gave Sheed a chance to turn things around after last season's benching, and Sheed blew it. Plain and simple.

The "repeatedly" thing in his statement makes me wonder if K is either trying to minimize a really bad, one-time thing or there's more fire under the smoke.

Because some girl on twitter says so?

Maybe it happened, but that's quite the leap without any legit source reporting it.

K had issues with Sheed last season. Out of shape, late to practice/meetings, emotionally immature on the court, just not living up to the standards K requires from his players. Sounds like he gave him another chance to start with a new clean slate this season. Sheed blew it. Don't know yet what happened in the last 24 hours but we will all find out very soon.

This is your most common post. And adds as much to these forums as your basketball program does to the conference. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Glad you are having fun with this though. I guess there isn't much else for GT fans to enjoy these days...

Wishful thinking but you are 100% wrong.

that doesn't seem to fit the punishment here. If those were the infractions, where was the suspension first? And how does it turn overnight?

He did get benched for Michigan last year, so it's not like stuff hasn't been going on behind the scenes for awhile. More than anything though besides for his 3 point shooting and occasional turnover creation, he just hasn't played well. He does stupid stuff on offense that messes up spacing, results in turnovers, and which continually leaves the team unbalanced on transition defense.

For a team that has 2 lottery picks, another potential 1st rounder, and 2 useful and productive upperclassman, the past month has been really disappointing.

He has been disciplined MULTIPLE times over the last 18 months. Kicked out of practices, benched, lots of history here.

A few people close to the organization are saying this might be a like a Percy Harvin situation. Talented player, but probably best move for the team to move on without him. Also heard from a Duke alum that's pretty connected that there was some noise last year about Jabari and him not getting along. And Jabari is a pretty easy guy to get along with.

Hmmm...

He had one DNP-CD over a year ago, but now he's kicked off the team forever, with no possibility of returning. It just doesn't make sense to me. I'm keeping an open mind, and it's not impossible that you're right, but it's just hard for me to imagine the set of circumstances that would lead to this, but not get you kicked of out the university, too. Especially when i think of guys like Josh McRoberts (all-around cancer) or Greg Newton (academic cheating) or JJ (weed), etc.

Attitude stuff makes the most sense, but i'm struggling with the very same guy playing key crunch-time minutes in a top-10 matchup one night, and totally gone the next one.

I can't imagine Coach K unilaterally cutting loose a college kid mid-season just because of a negative impact on the locker room. If a kid just doesn't get along with your teammates or fit in with what you're doing, you admit your recruiting mistake, maybe bench him if appropriate, and part ways in the offseason. You don't throw him under the bus and kill his future like this. This ain't the pros and he's not Percy Harvin who can sign elsewhere as soon as you cut him loose, he's a kid you recruited who agreed to play for you exclusively and to be penalized with a lost season if he changes his mind. Even I think too much of Coach K to think he'd do something like that. There has to be something far more concrete here.

I gotta think something happened in that locker room after that loss that ended up breaking the camel's back.

Maybe Sheed and K had it out and Sheed wanted out.

Or he blew up at teammates and it's just been a long time coming.

press reports from the locker room after ND loss say they witnessed nothing. of course, something could have happened later.

We may never get the story about the last straw that broke the camel's back but clearly their have been issues for a long time. K decided to move on. Most Duke fans I know support this decision 100%. Hate that we lost a player that at times was fantastic on the court, but he also made a LOT of plays that frustrated fans and his team mates too. And I'm proud that K holds these kids accountable and doesn't turn the other way like they did in Chapel Hill so many times with PJ.Time for Grayson Allen to step up. Team is gonna need him to contribute now.

We already know the answer tdoss, he hates anything K/Duke. He'll bring up Corey Maggette as proof that Duke/K cheats  So yeah K doesn't hold kids accountable now.

for any Duke fans that might care, Sheed will finish the semester at Duke and then apply for the draft. I figure late 2nd round pick or he plays in the D League. But he won't be transferring anywhere.

Gotta agree. Has to be more than just didn't fit in with the team personality-wise or wasn't performing like he should.

Tough spot for them now though.

LOL at holds these kids accountable.
I don't mean to go all Archer on you but this response really requires more content.Care to share how that statement is laughable?
He's no different than anyone else.
Other than he has 1000 wins, 4 NCAA Titles, multiple Gold Medals, and is the most respected coach in the history of the game in lots of people's opinions. But yeah, he's just like everyone else. I'm sure he cheats every chance he gets.

No way he gets drafted. He probably wasn't good enough in the first place, and now K has thrown him under the bus, which just cements it. (Not saying K did the wrong thing here, but would be interested to learn the circumstances.)

Just got details on everything. Nope, not repeating them here, but in absolutely no way was K wrong doing what he did. Had to be done. and Just Win Baby you may be right about him not getting drafted. I haven't really seen the projections and who all is coming out this year. I figured late 2nd if at all. He'll play in Europe or D League. And while you maybe said in jest that K "threw him under the bus", I'd say ANYTHING but that is really what happened. K is doing this kid a favor by not getting into the details. Wish him luck, but he had TONS of chances and blew it.

I agree...he'll be lucky to get D league.

Just say it...why be so secretive?

It's not like it's going to be a secret for long...if you found out...then it'll get out.

What are the details?

I may be able to assist. It's laughable simply because it was made by Ramblin Wreck. (Oh, you may have meant what he was answering. Anyway.)

No one who knows wants to say because it's an invasion of a young person's privacy. Actually, it will probably never get out unless Sulaimon wants it to. And that's his choice, not that of some blogger, Internet poster, or Seth Davis. Thank goodness.

Heh. Project much? The real hard-on, of course, is yours, for all things Duke. I don't know that an opportunity has ever arisen to bash Duke that you haven't "capitalized" on or "taken advantage" of. And like any good bully/keyboard commando, when called on it, you have nothing to say. I feel sorry for you and whatever Duke did to you.

I laughed at Ripley's dude and his hypocritical BS and awkward obsession. Find one post in this thread I've bashed Suliamon or your beloved coach for kicking Suliamon off the team. I barely post about Duke anymore because people like you have the thinnest skin on Earth even though you guys will come take shots at UNC or whoever whenever you want. But carry on with your nonsense if it makes you feel better.

I am wondering if UVA's schedule can get an easier...
Is this still a thing? Everyone's schedule is same, other than 4 games. I guess Uva and nd have slight advantages in only playing one "contender" twice while the other guys here play two.

Duke: unc, nd, syr, wake

Uva: Lville, ncst, wake, vt

Unc: duke, Lville, ncst, gt

Lville: Uva, unc, Mia, Pitt

Nd: duke, gt, bc, Clem

or maybe its just you Wreck. Of course, you will NEVER be able to see that. ALL fans, Duke, State, UNCheat, they have all called you out on it. Get over YOUR obsession. Post about your own team and this place would be a lot better. Of course, I guess most of us don't care about NIT teams but still....

Will be interested to see how Duke responds today. I think they normally do pretty well in these situations, but down our 6th man, AT UVA, not expecting a win, but hoping for one obviously. Hoping Allen gets some meaningful minutes and makes the most of them.

Assuming Duke gets killed today, BTW.

way to go Pack. Needed to win against sorry teams like GT or that would have hurt their resume. Glad they pulled it out! Cat looking good from deep :wolf:

Let me know when someone starts a knitting thread in an attempt that I can't find it and ruin it. Thanks in advance.

See? This childish #### is why folks dump on you.

I think the criticism of you is unwarranted sometimes, but you forge your own chain.

I have a friend who refuses to call the university in Durham by its name; only calls it "Puke". Oh, and no Coach K - it's "Coach Gay". She's a 60 year old woman.

Don't be her.
