2015 ACC Basketball - CLOSED (use 2016 thread now) (1 Viewer)

It was painfully obvious that you CANNOT let Okafor go one on one with anyone...the guy is just unreal.

So...I'd definitely knock Roy there...pick your poison though...but damned if I'd allow Okafor to just do whatever he wants.

Hard to stop Tyus when he's playing like that though.

I can't knock Roy on the TO's...I'd have called one to stop the tide...but still...he lets them play...so that's his thing.

I was really impressed by UNC's ability to get to the basket.

I thought for sure Paige would have his way but damn...Tokoto was everywhere and UNC had a bunch of players cutting, juking and slicing to the basket with unreal ability.

I said it in the other thread...and I say it again here...I'd have Okafor start practicing granny shots at the line.

I've been worried about Duke's FT shooting all year and it's still ugly at times...which is odd when you have two of the nation's leaders in FT percentage on the court at all times...but that's how bad everyone else is...
Yeah, I see the points about Okafor being single covered. Having said that, James and Meeks bodied up against him pretty well physically, although they didn't stop him. No one could have, but I guess the matchups didn't look so terrible from a physical point of view, so that might have led Roy to letting them go 1v1 against him too much.

Given his horrible FT shooting though, you almost have to tell James to just make sure he gets 5 fouls stopping Okafor.

Disappointing to give it away at the end, but impressed with how well the Heels played overall. Duke got some favorable calls as usual at Cameron, but the Heels showed they can play with anyone.

Wait until the Ripleys wannabe gets in here to talk to you, lol.

I think it actually looks like Jones grabs Paige first before Winslow mauls him. Too bad, perfect miss by Britt and great move by Paige to get there.

Sun came up. Still stings a little. But great game and well-deserved win for Duke.

I continue to be baffled at UNC's inability to hold a lead late. This game felt an awful lot like the collapse against Iowa State in the tourney last year, especially with Paige missing a 3 that would have put UNC up double digits right before the comeback started.

The FFA is angry today my friends.
Not for me. I don't pull for the dark side (Carolina), although had they won I wouldn't have cared. I think Carolina shooting cold those last two minutes of regulation did them in. They couldn't buy a basket at that point in the game.

If UNC plays like they did last night then I dont think NCSU has a chance next week, if they play like they did at Pitt then we can take them. We need to beat UNC in a bad way to help our chances/seeding for the NCAA. If we lose to say UNC and Cuse we may be dead in the water on the wrong side of the bubble. That Louisville win isnt going to carry as much weight any more.

It's less about how UNC plays and more about how State plays IMO. If State plays like it did in its last game against Louisville, they have a great chance to win.

UNC's stretch of 4 road games out of 5, with the home game being UVa, went about as bad as I expected. I was hoping for 3-2, and it was there for a fleeting moment. Oh, well.

The NC State and @Miami games are huge for ACC and NCAA seeding. If the Tar Heels can maintain the level of offensive play from the past two games, they may be ok. But last night has the potential to be a season-killing gut punch. Think the next few days are about keeping confidence up versus pure Xs and Os.

UNC has to clamp down more at the defensive end. Pitt and Duke were getting what they wanted on offense. If UNC is really going to make any noise in March, they need to play better defensively.

I initially thought that last night's game would actually play well to motivate UNC going forward.

But after a night to think on it and upon reflection of the recent losses...this could've been a backbreaker.

It'll be interesting to see how UNC responds over the next few weeks.

other than hitting some 3s, Duke played AWFUL tonight...and still won. That's gotta sting a little.
disagree. Tyus Jones was incredible driving to the basket. And Okafor, Winslow, and Jefferson had some nice plays inside.

i thought UNC played really well inside, and exploited our interior D (same old song)

correct if i missed it, but i don't remember Grayson Allen or Plumlee playing in the second half. i thought it was really strange to see little to no Plumlee, given Okafor's ankle and how the game was going. Seems K got really stubborn there.

Standard caveats, blown calls go both ways, home team always gets a little something from the refs, etc.

But if we're doing this, this was my personal favorite. Huge call too. Brice Johnson gets called for a moving pick here, he would eventually pick up a fourth at the 7 minute mark which limited his play from there out, and then foul out on the first possession of overtime.

It's a "heady" play if you're a Duke fan and a sleazy play if you're not, but either way it was an absolutely horrible blown call.

Eh. They really only made two mistakes- the missed Britt FT at the front end of the one-and-one and the inbounds pass where Meeks went for the home run and threw it out of bounds. The Britt FT was forgivable because of the BS delay that proceeded it (the Cameron timekeeper is worse at his job than anyone else is at any other job on earth). The Meeks play not so much. But other than that, what can you do? Duke made their threes. Story of the game.

Yikes...Roy went off on the UNC fans.

There's no way that's going to end well.

This might be the first real indication that Roy is looking for the exit.

Sadly, ROY was right though. That wine and cheese crowd is pathetic. Always has been. They should have never left Carmichael. And his comment shouldn't surprise anyone, he already said publicly years ago he didn't give a chit about UNC. ;)

Agreed. Would have been better if someone would have let him dribble 15 minutes off the clock Dean style. Gregory is gone, right?
Texted a buddy this afternoon that I would give anything if they would fire him today and they pay Shaka anything he wants. Still doubt he would come but we could always hope. I can't believe that Gregory has made Hewitt look not so bad.

Shaka accepted a contract at State a few years ago but his wife forced him to stay at VCU. Supposedly because she wanted to stay in Richmond, nothing to do with the job itself.

To get him to GT will require that she has had a change of heart.

I would love to see Shaka at State if he ever decides to leave. Not saying Got should be replaced, but if he was, he'd be an excellent hire. I also hope Roy coaches for another 20 years. :P

Great win Pack!!!

Its either time to stop calling State a bubble team, or start calling UNC a bubble team too. State has just 1 less conference win than UNC, but have MUCH better quality wins. State has now beaten Duke, UNC, Pitt, and Louisville. UNC has only beaten (split with) UL and split with the Pack.

Oh, and 9 losses and still in the top 20?

State has been really impressive to me. They've got a lot of really nice pieces. Bracketology from last week had them as a 12 but if they climb into that 7-10 range range they could be a terrifying 2nd round matchup for a 1 or 2 seed.

Go Pack!!

Impressive win on the road, I thought they were going to blow it when Carolina went on the big run in the 2nd half.

I'm assuming UNC will still climb a spot or two after the loss.

I miss MD in our conference.

Will Cuse take back their self ban?

Worst UNC performance I've seen in a long time. Not sure what happened there.

Seems like they're coming back to reality. That 6 game winning streak hid alot of their problems. It's hard for a team to be successful when you can't shoot.

Yeah, I hate it when UNC gets overrated.

By the way, is Duke safely locked into their traditional "lose to a 4 seed in the Sweet 16" spot, or do you think there's a chance they'll fall into their new era "lose to a 15 seed in the first round" seeding?
