2015 New York Giants - WK10 Cruz announces season ending calf surgery (1 Viewer)

I sure hope Beatty can play like he did in 2012 instead of how he played last season
I agree. I think he's the big concern with the Oline. Snee's elbow flared up and kept him out of OTAs. I think though he's more easily replaced. If Beatty can't go that would mean a player having to learn LT on the fly. Hope he's ready by camp or during it. Really getting concerned he'll be on the PUP to start the season.

If Beatty can't go at LT I think they would start Charles Brown from the Saints at LT

Beason is the only player placed on the PUP. Should mean that Beatty, Jerry and Manningham are expected back during camp or preseason.

also, per Ebenezer Samuel on twitter Beatty ran the conditioning drill today.

JULY 21, 2014 NEW YORK GIANTS TRAINING CAMP REPORT:

After a 31-day break, the New York Giants reported to East Rutherford for the first day of the team’s training camp. Well, sort of. Day 1′s events included three hours of meetings, a conditioning test followed by three hours of meetings.

Below you will find a few observations from the conditioning test. There really isn’t much to gather from a conditioning tests – literally the players just run 40-yard sprint/jogs – so this mostly is just updating certain situations.

SETTING THE STAGE:

  • The Giants waived wide receiver Kris Adams following a failed physical and signed guard John Sullen.
  • Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin said that there was nothing to be upset about in regards to anyone that reported for camp. A few players reported a ‘pound or two’ overweight, but Coughlin assured everyone that will be lost the first few days of camp.
CONDITIONING TEST:

Just a background on exactly what the conditioning test is:

  • Players line up in lines based on their position. A coach then stands at the other end of the field roughly 40-50 yards away. Players then need to run from one end of the line, to the coach, in a specific amount of time. Every player ran at a brisk jog.
  • No player struggled much during the conditioning drill. Mike Patterson was sucking a little wind, but nothing to be alarmed with. He’s a big guy, not very often he’s running down the field 50 yards with 30-second/minute breaks.
  • Jon Beason did not participate in the conditioning test in any facet, as was expected. Beason was walking around without any noticeable limp and stood with trainers as teammates went throughout the drill. Eli Manning also did not participate, he threw on the side. Don’t be alarmed, Coughlin said he didn’t run last year, either.
  • All of the players the Giants have on their roster reported. No hold outs.
  • David Wilson, William Beatty and Mario Manningham all completed the conditioning test fully. Beatty ran well, no limp and was in front of the pack. John Jerry stretched, but did not run.
  • Couglin spoke after the conditioning test and said that Wilson, Beatty, Manningham and Jerry have been ‘fully cleared’ medically and none will be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. With that being said, all will be limited. Coughlin did not give a definition of what ‘limited’ means saying, ‘I don’t even know.’
  • During the running, it looked like Charles James and (I believe) Trindon Holliday engaged in a bit of race. Holliday got the best of James which led to some words from teammates and coaches. James claimed he didn’t get the best ‘jump’ out of the gate.
The Giants’ first practice (albeit without pads) will be tomorrow at 1:20. Players will be made available to the media 11:15 am-12:15 pm. Practice is scheduled for 1:20 pm and will run just under two hours. Tom Coughlin will speak to the media after practice.

How do you guys think the FB competition between Hynoski and Connor is going to play out?

Could Peyton Hills be a wildcard in the FB competition? I believe he was a FB in college so he might be able to kind of save a roster spot so to speak.

Brandon Mosley, Jameel McLain and Xavier Grimble all carted off the field

Wow ... Thanks for ruining my day.

Couldn't have been 3 worse positions (Actually Right Tackle would have been worse) .

Brandon Mosley just took over for Snee (fortunately they signed a few Guards this offseason) , MCLain is their only real linebacker with Beason down, and Adrien Robertson is obese ...I was hoping he would be cut.

All of a sudden I feel like the Giants are in really bad shape. They have uncertainty at Left Tackle. Beatty Sucks and is coming off a bad injury ... I dont think hat he will be starting this year and I was really counting on Mosley as a starter or solid depth. Their linebackers without Beason , McLain and Rivers are worse than last year pre-beason. I was hoping they would finally admit they screwed up and let Adrien Robinson go.

Coughlin says that McLain's injury is to his foot. The others that were carted off were dehydration related.

Pro's should be in shape enough at this time of year that they should know how much they need to hydrate. Or maybe they should have the first week of practice in the indoor facility to give them time to adjust to the rigors of camp.

Pretty inexcusable to be that out of shape when you're paid to be a professional athlete. You don't have to train in the offseason as hard as you would during the regular season, but you should still be keeping in shape.

Also, monk, you're saying that Adrien Robinson is over weight? If they cut him, who would be left with? I don't think we can spare to cut anyone at TE.

I think Robinson is being given more of a chance because he missed much of the first offseason because he wasn't allowed to participate because of his school's graduation happened. Caoches feel that put him behind and made that year a wash.

It's been reported that Robinson came into camp down around 275

The guy was pretty raw coming out of Cincy and like netlap said he started out his career behind because of the late start as a rookie and because he was always injured

I hope he can stay healthy so that we get a true indication of what he can do

I love me some joe papa but where was he saying the Giants are known for their linebackers warming a segment on the position on espn.

Yeah, in like 1986 or 90.

We've been a DE pass rushing D for a long time now. And I can't remember the last great LB we had. Liked pierce and he was great in that role but he's hardly a great.

Snee to retire. Not sure how much of an impact this makes on the oline, I'm thinking marginal. Still it could effect continuity and the NYG are losing a starter so it's got to make some impact.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000366267/article/report-new-york-giants-guard-chris-snee-to-retire
Quite significant, second longtime OL to retire this offseason. Had they known predraft and free agency, gotta figure it would have affected their plans.

He was an extension of Coughlin. I wouldn't be surprised if he made the Giants team HOF someday, if not....totally adored by some fans.

He has been awesome at somehow playing through injuries. I don't think he missed a game for 10 years. I figure one of these days soon they'll be a list of injuries he had, shocking what he played through.

When he was younger, Giants had revamped their OL to suit their change from power O to quick RBs and then reverted back. He could do either (most OL can't) very well and if you watch Giant RB highlight videos at youtube and look for him, you'll see this guy 10 yards downfield or way out wide-he could really move.

He didn't play much last year and I bet that was extremely defeating to this tough guy. The line fell apart and was terrible and Eli's play matched the line's.

It's important to read how the writers say the OL does in camp against their DL. The Gmen did add some linemen this offseason and there is hope, but before ya draft Eli, Cruz etc I would totally recommend reading about their OL this summer. It was rough last year

David Wilson with a "burner" in practice today
That is very, very, very bad news.
Why's that?
I believe a burner is a nerve injury in your neck. Usually nothing of concern just very painful. But we're talking about a guy coming off major neck surgery.

There's a chance it's just a freak coincidence and is completely unrelated and it's no big deal, but it's hard to imagine that at first glance.

I’m really liking what I have seen from this Corey Washington kid thus far in preseason

I realize that it’s just preseason but the kid has made big plays when the opportunities were there

I would like to see what he can do working against the 2’s or maybe even the 1’s (especially if Beckham can't get healthy because I don't think Jerrnigan has the size to play outside)

Washington has great size at 6’4” and is a feel good story too http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2014/08/giants_wideout_corey_washington_finds_strength_from_a_special_fan.html

I keep telling myself its only preseason its only preseason ....but damn this offense looks horrible

I can't see the game (picking up some redzone channel looks) but Eli is just 1 for 6

Is he getting time?

Watching all these snaps, to me it looks like JD Walton is a revolving door. I don't understand why they have a ####ty old veteran starting over their premium center draft pick when he is CLEARLY the weak spot in the line. I wanna see Richburg get first team snaps this preseason, I think he could do a lot better. Then again, a whacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man could probably block better or at the very least, jsut as good as Walton has been.

Every single down Eli has pressure coming straight up the middle. It's not even remotely fair.

It was quite possibly the worst NFL performance I have ever seen. There was not a single thing about the Giants that was even close to good ... it was really really really bad!

I don't think Eli manning is any longer an NFL QB and definitely not in this offense ...he can't make short quick throws ...Painter is also horrifying. They can not cut Nassib ...as scary as this sounds he may be their best QB

Beatty and Brown couldn't stop a pass rush if they used both LTs together, at the same time!

F...ing Giants had an opportunity to draft a starting LT and instead took took an overrated WR (a position of strength) that cant get on the field.

There are at least 5 or 6 rookie WRs drafted long after Beckham that have been way more impressive and a couple of UDFA on the Giants that look better than him.

Beckham was a unnecessary reach at an unneeded position ... He is already a huge bust !!!

Things certainly aren’t looking good right now

I am however willing to give Beatty a pass last night since it was his 1st game action since his injury

Pugh and Mosley looked horrible

Channeling my inner Captain obvious – If the offensive line doesn’t dramatically improve in the next couple of weeks it’s going to be a very long difficult season

JD Walton is only 27, he's experienced but not an old veteran and he has proved that he is good enough to start on a quality Oline ...Richburg hasn't.

They need Walton and Richburg to be good from a depth perspective.

I wouldn't mind Richburg @ RG if Mosely is not cutting it and backing up Walton if he gets injured.

What are you even talking about? How do you know how OBJ looks, he hasn't even touched the field yet? How is someone that has yet to take a single snap in an NFL game yet already a bust? It's not like we're talking Marcus Lattimore here... he had a mild hammy injury and the Giants took him along slow because they don't wanna rush back their 1st round pick and risk his small injury becoming something major.

From what I remember in OTAs he was tearing it up. I wanted nothing to do with Martin myself... when they were on the clock I was hoping they'd take Aaron Donald or OBJ and they went with OBJ and I was pretty happy about that.

As for WR being a position of strength... how? Having 1 good WR doesn't make it a position of strength. Randle isn't good, Jerrnigan isn't good, we had nobody on the other side of Cruz after Nicks departed. We actually had a large need at WR.

From Rotoworld:

Jon Beason - LB - Giants
Giants MLB Jon Beason (foot) is "still on track" for Week 1.

Beason is even pushing for preseason snaps. Considering his injury history, he's unlikely to get them. Barring a setback, Beason will be ready for Week 1 after injuring his foot in mid-June.
