Yeah, thanks for the copy/paste of all that Walford hype Bob. Love it. Can't wait for the Walford Hype train thread to start up. I don't want to jinx him like I did Denarius Moore. Somebody fire one up.... please and thanks.

No problem, Raiderfan. I thought there were a couple interesting points in the article.

"The advanced stats suggest Walford should have been the consensus top tight end in the draft, but he went 13 picks after Maxx Williams out of the University of Minnesota. The Raiders may have been lucky that the Baltimore Ravens moved up to get Williams, as their Plan B option could have been Walford."

Also, how bad the team was by some metrics (near or at the bottom with 22 yards per drive). Yet one of the most efficient red zone teams, but only got there 23 times. That clearly bodes well, IF they can get there with greater frequency - and where Cooper and Walford should help a lot.

Walford has the career reception record for TEs at Miami, which is TE U. They had had four first rounders, Bubba Franks, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow III and Greg Olsen, as well as third rounder Jimmy Graham (who I think didn't play long, was a late basketball conversion and learning the position/sport - or may have played as a prep?).

 
Ring finger of throwing hand is concerning. Hopefully with rest he's ready for training camp. Every rep he misses is one less crucial play he has to get on the same page with his brand new receiving corp.

The agent for Derek Carr is claiming his client doesn't need hand surgery.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Wednesday that Carr might need an operation to address "numbness" in his right (throwing) ring finger. Carr's agent referred to it as a "nonstory," and a "very minor situation." The injury is significant enough to sideline Carr for post-draft OTAs. Agent Tim Younger says Carr "is probably going to be throwing" before training camp. "If he was really going to have hand surgery, I’d tell you," Younger said. "I’d tell everybody."

Mort is a noted Raider hater who has come out and admitted that he doesn't fact check rumors with the team at all. His Raider insight should always be taken with a grain of ####.

 
Amari Cooper the 'real deal' at Raiders OTAs

A Raiders team source described first-round WR Amari Cooper as the "real deal" during Oakland's OTAs.
"Real deal," the source said. "Almost no mental errors. Runs great routes, consistent route runner." Cooper is about as NFL-ready as they come out of college and should flirt with 80-plus catches in year one as the Raiders' target hog. Cooper drew Torry Holt and Marvin Harrison comps in the lead-up to the draft. He's a good bet to lead the rookie receivers in fantasy scoring, though Kevin White, Nelson Agholor, and Breshad Perriman are certainly in that conversation.

 
Funny, he reminds me more of a mash up of Holt and Harrison teammates Isaac Bruce and Reggie Wayne.

Either way, Cooper looks like a can't miss to be the best Raiders WR since Tim Brown (they didn't get the best of Randy Moss).

I am not sure I buy that he is going to completely change his style so completely after only one season with Kelly, or if he can implement such a scheme even if he wanted to...or if he could consistently and competently make effective play calls even if he did switch schemes and implement it.

As a Vikings fan I never thought I would read the words Bill Musgrave and up-tempo in the same sentence.

The first line is all I really needed to read:

"If the Oakland Raiders had a nickel for every heaping helping of disrespect and garbage being thrown their way just this offseason – let’s not even talk about the last decade plus – the organization would have literally ALL the money."

The Raiders EARNED all of the so called disrespect they get. They set the record for most consecutive seasons with double digit losses and have had only one season this decade that they did not lose at least 10 games. Stop whining and start winning; the disrespect will stop. It is that simple.

The question about Musgrave's approach is the most important question to answer. I am hoping for a fast-paced, no-huddle approach, but it is hard to imagine someone as old as Musgrave making such a radical change in his approach. The preseason will be revealing.

"A preferable solution would be for the new Oakland regime to get fullback Marcel Reece more involved. He saw all of 21 carries last season, although Reece did make 37 receptions. That's still not enough touches for a talented player."

It has been a mystery to me why Reece hasn't been move involved in the offense. Come on man!

2014 fourth-round pick Keith McGill worked with the first team ahead of Hayden. Hayden played just 18 games in his first two seasons as he battled a litany of injuries, but his demotion this offseason has nothing to do with health. Perhaps the Raiders' new coaching staff is simply trying light a fire under the former No. 12 overall pick, but it appears there is a real chance Hayden opens the season on the bench.

Whatever puts the best team on the field. Hopefully it hits him with a dose of reality, but if McGill is out playing him then good.
