2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs: All hail the Blackhawks, mudbutt (2 Viewers)

Babcock prediction:

He stays in Detroit but signs a short deal, 2 years at $4mm a year. Wings win back-to-back cups, he goes to Edmonton in 2017.

the red wings offered babcock a four-year deal worth $3.25 million a season, which would make him the highest-paid coach in nhl history. Many have speculated that the deep-pocketed maple leafs and sabres might offer as much as $5 million per season. The red wings want babcock back, but it's unclear if they'd be willing to increase their offer.
@pham1717 believes that Buffalo's offer to Mike Babock is north of $5 million; "almost like write your own contract."
Babcock is leaning towards re-signing with the Detroit Red Wings on a short-term basis, a source told the Star.

"He's definitely not coming to Toronto."The news echoed the belief held by many in the hockey world, suggesting there isn't an opportunity available that can lure Babcock from Detroit and out of the 10-year partnership with Red Wings general manager Ken Holland.

"I think the offer he got from Buffalo is intriguing, but I think he looks at the team and realizes there's still a lot of work to be done there," McKenzie said. "And that if he wants to win - and he does - and if he wants to compete for Cups - and he does - he's going to get a better opportunity to do that in Detroit than he is in Buffalo.

"At this point, most people will be extremely surprised if he doesn't come out and say that he's staying with the Detroit Red Wings," he added.

this is what I thought all along...that the Sabres are still a bit too far away for him to make the move, but wasn't sure he'd be able to turn down all that extra cash.

He was supposed to trip over himself to get the Toronto coaching job.

Hockey mecca, yeah right.

Babcock, 52, has been head coach in Detroit for 10 years. Upsides include coaching an Original Six team with tremendous history, working for a GM who takes Babcock's input on personnel decisions, and working for an owner, Mike Ilitch, known for spending to win. Babcock may well wonder how competitive the Wings can remain, given that they don't get to draft the cream of the top-five crop, but the farm system does include Dylan Larkin, an 18-year-old who just played at the world championships.

The Sabres have a tremendous amount of young talent, which soon will include Jack Eichel, expected to go second overall in next month's NHL draft. The Sabres are owned by Terry Pegula, who has a reputation for getting what he wants, at any price. Pegula also owns the Buffalo Bills and reportedly gave Rex Ryan north of $5 million annually to coach the Bills. Bottom line, if Pegula wants Babcock badly enough, the Sabres might get him.

The Wings have offered Babcock four years at $3.25 million annually, which would make him the NHL's highest-paid coach. He is believed to be looking for $4 million, double his current salary. Holland said "money is not an issue," but the Wings still might balk at going much higher.

There are different types of hat tricks?
yes Gordie Howe hat trick is a Goal, an Assist and a Fight
A Marty St Louis hat trick is a missed goal on the doorstep, a backwards assist to the opposing team, and a trip over your own feet.
The weirdest thing is that my BIL who played hockey, coaches hockey and knows a #### ton about hockey wont see this. He has an excuse for every error he makes. Its is unreal and maddening. I think he needs to seek help

Is your BIL named Glen and does he walk around with a cigar in his mouth?

Feeling better about Babcock staying. I hope they do a short term and then bring in Blashill. I think Blashill will be a great NHL coach.
why would he go through all of this only to stick around for 2 years? why would Blashill want to be stuck in Grand Rapids for 2 more years when he's clearly ready to run an NHL bench now?

Of which, Gordie had exactly two of these in his career.

Useless hockey trivia (and hopefully not a thread hijack). Who is the alltime leader in Gordie Howe Hat Tricks?
this old gag again?

Keith Olbermann did a good tribute to Gordie Howe, must watch for any fan.

Useless Hockey Trivia. Who is the all-time NHL leader in Gordie Howe Hat Tricks? (not a trick question, as Gordie himself, had only two of them)
Shanny is #1 with 17, Tocchet second with 15 and Brian Sutter third with 12. Jarome Iginla is the active leader with 9.

I eventually got to Shanny after a couple guesses, my first guess was Seabass himself, Cam Neely. Nice work guys.

As they say on the streets, my bad.

Serious question, all jokes aside since you guys have watched the games

You think Im being too hard?
he's 39 years old. not sure what you guys were expecting.
We probably expected him to play somewhat in line with his 52 points in 74 game performance at 39 years old this entire season.
guy had 2 points last night and you guys think he's garbage.

it's a long season. he played 81+25 games a year ago (plus Olympics) and 74+14 this year.

not surprising he'd wear down at some point.

You just said we shouldn't be expecting good play because he's so old. Which is it?

he's old and worn down. seems obvious.

that's what happens to players when they get old and/or play a ton of games.

Burke being redeemed for trashing Yandle with US Olympic selections
I've had the same thought every time Rangers fans in here start to lose their mind over one of his turnovers or lapses in coverage. That's pretty much what he's been known for, despite being above average offensively.

I wonder how much of his struggles have to do with changing teams so late in the year though. Have to assume he'll play better next year.

Tyler Johnson going to be the #1 C for Team USA at the World Cup?

I guess it's him, Pavelski, and Stepan with Kesler/Backes in a checking role.
