Cavs need to trade T.Thompson to the Grizz for Randolph and sign Ibaka.  Those two with Love make an outstanding rotation.

I was thinking they should try to pry cousins from New Orleans and go for butler/George.  Probably gonna have to lose love to do that though.

Ain't nobody gonna help the Cavs get better and they got nothing to give and no room to sign ($20mil over cap with '17-8 commitments to 8 players) anyway.

For the Cavs to get anyone of consequence it has to be done via trade because they don't have the cap space (which probably means Love). They are already committed to $128+ million for each of the next two years which puts them way way over the cap already.

I don't get this, exactly where does adding Butler get the Celtics? That still isn't a championship team.
There's no such thing as a championship team outside of the bay area for the next 2-3 years.  I would say adding Butler gets them to the second tier with the other non-contender contenders, which is all teams can do for now.

It will be interesting to see the Cavaliers motivation level tonight.  Blazers, Jazz and Spurs all looked like they gave up in their elimination game.

True - though as you know any team is simply a badly turned ankle away during the Conference Finals or Finals from being upset.  Of course GS being the best team in NBA history (IMO) makes their margin of error larger than most championship squads.

Yeah, I considered the injury factor. I think maybe an injury to Durant or Curry would still leave the Warriors as the favorite- they'd still have three of the top 15 players plus a good coach and decent depth, which is more than you can say about any other team in the league.  But it would definitely bring the second tier into contention, which is another good reason for teams like the Celtics to strive to join the Cavs and Spurs on the second tier.

They know it's over but nobody wants to get swept. There's always a good chance a team playing for pride can pull one off.

Depends when Lebron gives up.  I guarantee guys like Love and RJeff and Korver will play their asses off.

Can we all agree that LeBron's 7 straight finals appearances stat (or whatever the number is) should have a huge asterisk by it?

Right, I suspect they'll entertain ideas for moving Love (for Boogie or George..maybe they are the only 2?).

Not to get into the great Carmello debate and what he brings/doesn't bring to the table, one of the national guys was speculating he would work on a buy out and play for the min.  I'm just saying that's a way the Cavs could get someone semi useful on the cheap.  Long shot to get anyone REALLY useful this way though.

So did Curry literally poop on the Cavs logo while he was metaphorically doing just that the other night?
I thought I saw a streak on the back of his shorts.

Wonder what Green and ZaZa are going to do tonight when Curry takes a hard foul.

If the Cavs won tonight, I doubt it, it would put a little pressure on the warriors to win at home in game 5.

I'm by no means a fan of Lebron but an asterisk next to his finals appearances is ridiculous, assuming the person that suggested it is even being serious. Jumping from stacked team to stacked team is not against the rules so unless he gets busted for steroids or excessive rogaine usage pre plugs his appearances are valid.

I think the idea is they sign Gordon Heyward as well.
and that team is beating GS? I still don't see him leaving Utah but even if he does and signs with the Celtics it shouldn't lead the Celtics to trading the #1 pick. For Boston, they can be a contender to make the finals by adding Hayward and keep the pick this year and next year so they can contend for years to come. In some ways you are threading the needle but it extends out their contending window for years to come. I'm surprised there is any argument to this approach.

He left Cleveland for a 47 win team and then left Miami for a 33 win team  .

Speaking of 3 on 3, I heard today that 3 on 3 basketball has been added as an Olympic sport. If pros are allowed to participate, what combination of three players would have the greatest chance of winning?

There is more to it then their records from the year before.
Sure, but the point is he wasn't "jumping from stacked teams to stacked team." If they were stacked they would have won more than 47 and 33 games. He was building a stacked team around him, in each case by recruiting a top 20-ish PF along with a couple old vet friends to join him and forcing his new team to drop other assets as a result.

Bottom line none of the seven teams makes the Finals without him, and I'm not sure any of them even makes the ECF despite the down years, so it's a stretch to refer to any of them as stacked.

:lmao: @ the Love for Cousins, George or Butler. You would have to add another Love to not get hung up on.
I put George out there because he's the only one that makes sense due to the fear of him leaving for nothing. I guess you could say the same about Cousins.

Really, what I'm trying to do is figure out a way for another team to compete with Golden State. Barring Cleveland trading Love I don't see one. San Antonio could sign someone I suppose but they're really set up more for the '18-'19 off-season.

cant do Butler & Hayward together. they'd have to sign Gordo first for the cap to allow it and the draft occurs before the FA period. i'd prefer Butler & Plumlee (RFA) to Fultz and Hayward and i'd still like to see what Stevens could do with Boogie

There has to be like 2 dozen American teams right?

Imagine Lebron/Durant/ Unibrow

I suppose I should have included the caveat that three guys who realistically would play together. For example, I doubt LeBron, Leonard, and KD would play together. But LeBron, CP3, and Melo easily would.

I bet you would have said the same thing if someone speculated on the Cousins to NO deal, right?  Save the, well we're talking about Sacramento hot take.  You also downplay a 3rd or 4th team being involved.  You're really not a good GM, I hope you know that.  And I'm not saying I am.

i'll bite. why?
Because the Eastern conference is like the NBA C-league.

You can't claim going to 7 straight title games as some accomplishment and ignore that you are 3-5** in the finals and it should really be 1-7 in the finals as two of them have asterisks themselves.

If SA can get off the Gasol and Parker contracts and get CP3 without giving up a crucial rotation piece (i.e., Green), SA is a real threat. I think that would have been a competitive series as is without the Leonard injury.

Remember when LeBron, Bosh, and Wade lost to Dirk, the Matrix, and JJ Barea in the finals?  Hey, but LeBron got another finals appearance*!

*from the Eastern conference

Do you think SA is going to sign 32 year-old Chris Paul to a 4 year max contract? Maybe.

I don't think he or Blake are leaving the Clippers. They can't afford to be irrelevant and can offer the most $.
