***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market (2 Viewers)

Forget Britton, you had Hunter still out there if you wanted to get cute.  Bringing in Ubaldo at that point in the game was suicide.

Ubaldo will never be an effective pitcher again.  Buck worked on him for three seasons to get him right in the head and he just blew it all up by putting Ubaldo in a spot he had never been in before.  Confidence killer, career killer.

I loved Ubaldo's reaction to the homer, trying to will it back in the stadium even though it was clearing the wall by 80 feet.  :lmao:

Buck in the postgame presser: "nobody's been pitching better for us than Ubaldo"

ummmm I think you may be mistaken, Buckeroo...

"I considered a lot of things."

That's my new go-to line whenever I obviously, publicly, and horrifically, #### up.

BP did an article last year that said Buck has earned more wins for his managing than any other manager over the last five years.  Orioles shouldn't be in the playoffs all the time with that brutal starting pitching and streaky softball hitting that is homer dependent.  Not using Britton is one thing, using Ubaldo there is another thing completely.  He compounded his mistake there, that's a tough pill to swallow for O's fans IMO.  I'd be irate.

Another way of thinking about it: Britton led Orioles in WPA (6.1). Second? Givens (1.9). Ubaldo? 27th on club (-1.4)

aye, there's the rub.  This is a painful loss and how Buck handles explaining his decision making with the team is what will decide if the current iteration of the O's remain a competitive force.  I now have doubts in Buck, can't imagine how the organization feels about him.

Heidi Watney interviewed Osuna and he seems fine.  Said he isn't hurt was "tired."

Yeah I'd have gone with Britton in the 9th but he got away with it.  I was joking about Gallardo coming in for the 11th, I'm really shocked Britton wasn't used there.  Not sure I've ever seen anything like that in all my days watching what is my favorite sport.

Eephus>Does this compare to Burt Shotten leaving Ralph Branca in too long in '49?

Watched at a bar in Vancouver. Not really a ton of Jays fans in there which I thought was weird since they seem to flood Seattle when the Jays play there.

Great game. Was wondering why they weren't walking Edwin, instead Ubaldo grooves one.

Jays / Rangers is way better anyway unless you are an Orioles fan. Used to dislike Showalter because he was such a tight ### but now just respect home for being so good.

Not a huge baseball fan but caught the last 5 innings of tonight's game to see the rocket walk off

what are the good storylines for Jays v Rangers many are referring to?

The best baseball fight since probably Nolan Ryan beating up Robin Ventura happened this year between two of the best players on both teams. You'll see the replays about 800 times and anytime Bautista gets on first.

They also played one of the craziest games last year in decades that ended with a walk off.

I also found it error to not walk Encarnacion to load the bases and create a force at home.

Hoping some advanced stats guys can prove me wrong.

The guy with the 4.00 GB/FB ratio is probably a better situational choice than the guy with the 1.00 ratio.

What a disappointing way to go down last night. I don't usually question Buck, but I don't know why you wouldn't bring in Britton in that situation. But, the offense didn't do them any favors last night. The bats have been pretty cold the whole 2nd half of the season and they cost us last night.

Did buck say "it wasn't a save situation"?

please tell me he did.
not explicitly, to my knowledge, but he kept referring to the fact that it was on the road.  seems obvious what he meant by that.

when asked whether he considered going to Britton, he said "yea, I considered a lot of things" which I thought was a hilarious response.

Why 3pm playoff games? How many people watch them all?  100? 200?

March madness works fine with stacked games.
