***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market (1 Viewer)

Free to walk 4 times you mean! He's in the ump's head now.

He's their 2nd highest OBP guy so why not have him up there before Donaldson and EE?
1-3 with 1 BB and 1K. Worked like a charm. :coffee:

I said this in August after they beat the Tigers for about the 20th time in a row...some teams just seem to put it together for a full season and this year it is Cleveland's year.   Would have loved to see the starter go 5 innings with blood flying everywhere and the ball a deep red color. Would have blown away Shillings bloody sock story.  Although he may have needed a transfusion the way it was dripping.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a fan watching from home, I know I get annoyed with all the quick takes into the dugouts to see the manager's staring into the field or popping sunflower seeds into their mouths.  I'd have to think they are sick of it too...and based on Francona's response to the TBS camera last, I'd say he is too.  It'll be interesting how often they keep going back to him after this incident.   :lmao: :lmao:

Video of TV broadcast in the article

Indians manager Terry Francona was understandably frustrated during the first inning of Monday’s ALCS Game 3. His starting pitcher Trevor Bauer, who had cut his finger fixing a drone, was bleeding all over the place. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons was on his way to complain to the umpires about the blood, and Francona knew Gibbons would win that argument.

With all that in mind, he seemed displeased with having a TBS camera focused on him in the dugout as he pondered this crucial pitching move.

Francona not-so-discreetly flipped off the camera.

Dear Tito,

I know every move you make seems to work but please no Kluber on short rest, he has never pitched on short rest.

Roll the dice on Merritt game 4 instead and use Kluber game 5 if it comes to that.

Yep, I'd be rooting for Merritt too. I thought Tito said during the in-game interview that everyone was available last night except for Merritt because he was starting game 4?

Bautista seems like someone who is easy to dislike.
It would be great if he could keep his mouth shut in the media and towards umps. He has a tremendous eye at the plate but his need to show up every ump if he feels the pitch is slightly off the plate is freaking annoying.

I'm really curious to see where he signs this offseason. I feel like he's worn out Jays fans patience with his complaining and maybe needs to go somewhere else. Plus it seems like the Jays will push hard to bring back Encarnacion and that really leaves no spot for Bautista because to make it very clear, he isn't capable of being a regular outfielder any more. I'm sure he could play 1B but he might be best suited to DH which limits the number of teams he can sign for and somewhat limits his appeal as a 36 year old coming off a 234/366/452 season. I don't think he's done but he's pretty clearly in decline on both sides of the ball

Sorta.  He actually said during that interview the Bauer injury bumped Kluber up to game 4 and Merritt was unavailable because he might be needed to start a game later in the series.

Anyone have a line on Jays/Indians series?  I'm thinking +1000/-1400

From ESPN.com:

After their win last night, the Cleveland Indians are up 3-0 in the ALCS and -1600 favorites at Westgate to advance to the World Series. Toronto is +900.

The issue comes up that he doesn't have anyone for Game 7, if Kluber pitches Game 5.  He doesn't want it to come down to the wire and have to rely on the bullpen again.  He'd rather roll the dice on Kluber with 3 days rest for Game 4, Merritt Game 5, Tomlin Game 6 and Kluber again Game 7 - if needed.

I know he's never done it before, but the Tribe is rolling on adrenaline right now.  I think Kluber goes out there and performs as only Kluber can, and the Tribe sweeps the Jays tonight.

Have fun in Toronto, are you just doing tonight's game? I think I'm the one person who doesn't like Under Armour
Great experience with a first class organization.  Suite with free food/drinks for first 5 innings...then to the row on the 3rd base dugout (looking right at the coaches/players as they walk back in after an at bat)...then a large in-stadium post-game party with more free food/drinks.  The mood was electric...then somber...but this front office knows what it's doing.  Really impressive ballpark especially considering it's age.

If the Jays could win tonight, you have to like their matchups in games 5 and 6. Cleveland has clearly been better but the margin hasn't been huge.

Is this a new thing that home fans don't like Bautista? I don't blame them, but I thought he was well liked.
He was making pretty strong contract demands before the season, stating he wasn't going to negotiate and there would be no hometown discounts.  Then he played really mediocre baseball.

You look past the annoying stuff when he is putting up gaudy numbers. Now that his production has slipped and his fielding deteriorated to complete uselessness but his attitude has stayed the same while expecting a massive contract... yeah, fans are turning on him. He's been great for the team and if he comes back cheap as a DH, great. Won't miss him though.

Yeah, I agree with this and in top of it, Toronto never properly embraces it's stars, there's a tendency to grossly overrate the John McDonald/Wendel Clark/Ryan Goins gritty grinder dirt bag types and find reasons not to cheer for the Bautista/Sundin/Kessel types.

I don't expect Toronto to reel off 4 straight. They're only 50/50 to win this afternoon. I do think games 5 andn 6 on paper with SP matchups favour Toronto.
Possibly.  I agree with Game 5 (Merritt) as he is a little of the unknown type.  Anything can happen.  I would think Francona would double up Merritt with Clevinger in that game, but still I would be nervous.  Tomlin would come back for Game 6, and if he pitched the way he did on Saturday, then I like the Tribe's chances in that game.

Wendel Clark a grinder? No. 1 overall pick ... 330 career goals, over 30 in a season four times (including 46 one year).

He was physical and that was a big reason he never could stay healthy for a full season, but I don't think he fits the "grinder" mold.

He's a skilled grinder but there's a reason you used goals instead of points. He topped 50 points twice as a Leaf. Sundin topped 70 points 12 times in a less offensive era. Most Leafs fans are bigger Clark fans because he played a tough style.

I guess I just put the "grinder" label on a third-line type guy, a 10-15 goals/season guy who doesn't necessarily get the notice. Clark was closer to a Cam Neely-type player than a third-liner, a tough guy who would fight anyone but also put the puck in the net pretty regularly. And he was a captain.

If I ever got a Leafs replica jersey for my collection, "Clark 17" would be my first choice.

Take this to the Baseball Forum

Wish they could have got a sac fly from Tulo there.

Russ might as well just stand there and look for a walk. Crowd the plate, square around and take everything.

:lmao:   Bruce and Limp are infatuated with me.

I'd stalk me too.
Let's not be silly. I'm infatued with the unintentional comedy that you provide. Because I, as well as others, find great humor in it, I do what I can to encourage you to post more.

Naw, I realize now that the majority of the people who post in these playoffs threads are too stupid for me.

Zeke should lead off tomorrow but i expect we'll see Joey no-Bats again.
Maybe he ought to shut his trap too:

Jose Bautista on Ryan Merritt: "With our experience in our lineup I'm pretty sure he's going to be shaking in his boots more than we are."
He bailed on the post game 4 interviews like a coward, and then decides to chirp about the Indians' starting pitcher for tomorrow. Dude is hitting .167; he needs to shut it.

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but this obsessive need to cut the natural sound every time someone curses, is absolutely ruining the viewing experience. It's extremely jarring, it totally disrupts the flow of the action, and I feel like Joe Buck is in my living room.
