T. Brady $15

R. Griffin $7

C. Wenz $6

Like everybody else liked Brady's discounted price. Had Taylor in as my only other QB but didn't like the chance of a running QB getting hurt and not having a QB for Brady's bye week. RG3 and Wenz should get me throughBrady's suspension.

L. Miller $28

L. Bell $27

C. Simms $12

D. Henry $7

C. Michael $4

A. Morris $3

Bell was a no brained. Wanted another stud RB to give me 2 solid RB scores each week. Hoping both Simms and Henry give me weekly points and their value skyrockets if injuries in front of them. Don't like Seattle's backfield is shaping up to be a mess but hoping Michael gives me enough points to get through Bell's suspension. Also has injury upside.

Evans $24

K. Allen $23

J. Gordon $13

M. Jones $12

S. Diggs $11

K. Stills $4

Like my RBs wanted 2 solid scorers each week in Evans and Allen. Gordon is a gamble but if he is back he's a steal at $13. Jones should be steady every week. I liked Diggs early bye and MN no. 1 WR at $11 I thought was good value.

Fleener $19

Ertz $18

Cook $8

Looks like I may be one of the few that spent big on TE. At 1.5 points per reception I felt you needed good  TE production every week. Gambling on Ertz and Fleener as I liked their potential and early byes. I think Cook in GB could have a very good year as he was used a lot in preseason. I could see a couple of weeks where he scores multiple TDs.

Prater $3

Folk $2

Sacrificed a 3rd K in order to upgrade from McCoy to Miller. I really liked McCoy at $24 but an injury to a top RB will kill you. Made up for losing the 3rd K by taking an indoor kicker and both with solid job security hopefully.

New Orleans $2

Tennessee $2

Sacrificed the 3rd D for Miller again

In all I liked the pricing of the suspended players. Also put an emphasis on early byes when possible. Hoping I have enough to get through the first 4-5 weeks.

There has been a significant shift in RB buying patterns from last year, with people getting more and cheaper RBs and fewer of the studs. Here are the number of RBs on the average team, by price range (from the data here):

Code:
price 2015 2016
$2-5 0.71 1.05
$6-10 0.72 1.36
$11-17 1.54 1.55
$18-24 0.94 0.74
$25-35 1.20 0.94
Tot # 5.11 5.65
Tot $ 82.5 77.4
0.5 fewer RBs in the $18+ range, 1.0 more RBs in the $10 or less range, 0.5 more RBs in total and $5 less spent.

well funchess dissapointed for about 5 thousond people
Nah.  If Julio or Hilton only have 1 catch, I'll be disappointed.  If Shepard only has 1 catch, I'll be mildly disappointed.  When one of my sub-$10 WRs only has 1 catch, it's not disappointing.  I expect games where that happens--it's why they're under $10 and why I have 4 of them.  They aren't there to produce double-digit scores every week, they're there to score double-digits on occasion. Now, if none of the other three can top his score, then I'll be disappointed.

I started with the same strategy I use every year, picking one higher-cost player at QB/RB/WR/TE that met these criteria:  they have a shot at finishing top 3 at their position, I thought they weren't overpriced, and I also suspected they wouldn't have extremely high ownership in this contest. Eli isn't really a high-dollar player, but I really like his chances at being fantasy elite this year.

There's always a concern about being too unique (missing out on highly owned players that do well), but I also didn't want to duplicate too many hyped players. I skipped Spencer Ware because I think the demise of Charles is just wishful thinking, maybe I'll be wrong. Leaving out Marvin Jones was a tougher choice, but at the last minute I swapped him for DeSean Jackson (also dropping my third kicker to make up the cost). I knew my really cheap guys would be popular picks for everyone, but they are popular for a reason, and cheap enough to say "why not?"

Eli Manning           $16
Derek Carr            $13

C.J. Anderson         $22
Jeremy Hill           $15
Charles Sims          $12
Kenneth Dixon          $8
Derrick Henry          $7
James White            $5
Alfred Morris          $3

Amari Cooper          $21
Michael Floyd         $15
DeSean Jackson        $14

[B]Jameis Winston $14
Tyrod Taylor $11
Carson Wentz $6[/B]

Both Jameis and Tyrod should have some break out games this year and Wentz should
have a possible good game here or there to fill in for bad games or bye weeks etc.

[B]Danny Woodhead $18
Theo Riddick $13
Ameer Abdullah $13
Charles Sims $12
Rashad Jennings $12
Javorius Allen $7
Devontae Booker $6
Alfred Morris $3
Orleans Darkwa $2[/B]

Morris for $3? Seriously he looks good and a rookie taking NFL hits is bound
to get injured at some point or banged up. With Williams gone in NY, Jennings
has the chance to get more snaps and catches. Woodhead, Riddick and Sims are
pure stud PPR guys. Took both Abdullah and Riddick from Det, hoping to catch one
each week. Took Allen as a flyer, and if CJ goes down, hopefully Booker can
fill in, and not fumble like he did on his first carry for the Broncos. Darkwa
is a what-if and cover for Jennings.

[B]Odell Beckham Jr $33[/B]
[B]Jarvis Landry $22
Josh Gordon $13
Marvin Jones $12
Josh Doctson $6
[/B]
Bounced back and forth with 7-8 WRs and eventually settled with a few studs
in Beckham and Landry. If Gordon stops smoking that weed, he could be huge and
Jones seems to be coming into his own finally, and Doctson was a beat in
college, and if he gets 100% healthy this year, he could have some big games.
Thought about removing Allen from RBs for $7 and taking a $7 WR, but decided no.

[B]Jared Cook $8
Will Tye $7
Clive Walford $6
Virgil Green $4
Hunter Henry $4
Jesse James $2[/B]

Went with the cheap TEs here. Cook is a specimen and in an offense with a real
QB. Looked good in preseason and took most 1st team reps. Tye and Walford were
coming on strong at the end of last year and James could be starting the whole
year if the issues with L. Green end up being worse than thought.

[B]Sebastian Janikowski $3
Roberto Aguayo $3[/B]

Went super cheap here, and I figure the offense will be better this year in
Oakland and Aguayo started off rough but he's damn accurate and showed off over
the last few games that's he's the real deal.

[B]Houston Texans $5
New York Giants $5 [/B]

Contemplated going with 2-3 cheaper defenses, but decided to go with 1 great
defense and 1 up and coming in the Giants.

Here is what I'm rolling with this year.

Spent very little time on my entry this year.  I submitted one version about a week ago, and then made some changes and submitted a revised lineup a few hours before the deadline.  I don't feel great about it but that's to be expected with how little time I put into it, and just how little I was able to pay attention to stuff during the preseason.  I inadvertently ended up with Russell Wilson and three of his receivers, so... go Seahawks?!

I really like my team, but everyone does after submitting.

Strengths: High end WR scoring, well rounded set of backs with a mix of consistency and upside, TE's all good value and cheap. No bye week issues at any positions.

Weakness: QB's. Bortles is solid and unspectular and Brock is a question mark. Kickers, looks like I efffed that up.

Really hoping to break the top 100 this year finally. Been so close.

Happy to hear feedback.

Pretty deep lineup this year but this contest always surprises.

58 pepole went with the gronk or die stratagy ( only te on roster) can this work?
Guess we'll find out sooner rather than later.

For the record, 342 teams have Gronk and Brady; 65 Have Brady/Gronk and L. Bell; 25 have Brady/Gronk/Bell and Josh Gordon.  1 team has Brady/Gronk/Belll/Gordon and Charles.

I think I'm done. Never had much success with the smaller roster sizes. Trying to fill all 30 spots this year.

Weird, I plugged it in, and I am the only one with my core starting Rbs/Wrs - Gio, Foster, Julio, Evans.   I guess in theory that helps since my other cheap guys seem to be very popular - Stafford, Ware, Funchess, McDonald, Green...

That is a LOT of money tied up in defenses, too much for my tastes. I like a lot of your players but I think you may lack the high end upside at WR.

Yep -- I have to hit on some of those cheap WRs or I'll be out pretty quick.  But that was the idea.

I punted the TE position this year.  In the past I have always taken a stud (usually Gronk) with a couple cheep flyers (guys under $5)....or taken a couple mid priced but proven TEs (something like Ertz and Witten for example) with one cheep flyer.

This year I went with McDonald, Brate, Green, and James....for a total cost of $17.  That is cheapest I have ever gone at the TE position.  I probably don't have any world beaters there individually, but I'm hoping that combo will be good enough to give me one decent score each week.

Anyone else totally punt the TE position this year?

QB    Jay Cutler    CHI    $9
QB    Robert Griffin III    CLE    $7
QB    Carson Wentz    PHI    $6

Decided to take some risks at QB. If these three play all year I should be near to guys who spent more money on two QBs, and if Griffin or Wentz breaks out it could be quite god.

RB    C.J. Anderson    DEN    $22
RB    Latavius Murray    OAK    $19
RB    Melvin Gordon    SD    $14
RB    Ameer Abdullah    DET    $13
RB    Spencer Ware    KC    $8
RB    Orleans Darkwa    NYG    $2
RB    KaDeem Carey    CHI    $2
RB    Marcel Reece    OAK    $2

I put everyone into my better-than-DD value spreadsheet to look for value per dollar. It seemed like there was a lot in the mid-range RBs. The $2 guys are just hoping to score a week or two, but Anderson/Murray/Gordon/Abdullah should be pretty solid.

WR    Julio Jones    ATL    $32
WR    Keenan Allen    SD    $23
WR    Marvin Jones    DET    $12
WR    Sterling Shepard    NYG    $11
WR    Rishard Matthews    TEN    $6
WR    Devin Funchess    CAR    $6
WR    Victor Cruz    NYG    $5

The biggest values in dollars-per-VBD were Julio and Antonio Brown. I like Julio a little more. Allen and Jones were also pretty cheap relative to expected production. I liked pairing Shepard with Cruz; even at a combined $16, one of those guys should put up some solid numbers.

TE    Gary Barnidge    CLE    $12
TE    Zach Miller    CHI    $8
TE    Richard Rodgers    GB    $8
TE    Will Tye    NYG    $7
TE    Jesse James    PIT    $2

With the flex format and 1.5 PPR for TEs it's hard not to load up on them. The top TEs were pretty expensive but the low and mid tier are are cheap, and they'll combine for some big weeks.

PK    Ryan Succop    TEN    $2
PK    Andrew Franks    MIA    $2
PK    Nick Folk    NYJ    $2

Take all the $2 kickers, that's my philosophy.

DST    San Diego Chargers    SD    $2
DST    Tennessee Titans    TEN    $2
DST    Cleveland Browns    CLE    $2
DST    New Orleans Saints    NO    $2

Take all the $2 defenses, that's my philosophy.

Because there are more $2 PKs and DSTs this year, I'm back to 30 players after going with 28 or so last year (don't quite remember).

It seems like just about everyone who posted in this thread did.  I have 5 TEs for a total of $27.

WR    Devin Funchess    CAR    $6
WR    Victor Cruz    NYG    $5

The biggest values in dollars-per-VBD were Julio and Antonio Brown. I like Julio a little more. Allen and Jones were also pretty cheap relative to expected production. I liked pairing Shepard with Cruz; even at a combined $16, one of those guys should put up some solid numbers.

TE    Gary Barnidge    CLE    $12
TE    Zach Miller    CHI    $8
TE    Richard Rodgers    GB    $8
TE    Will Tye    NYG    $7
TE    Jesse James    PIT    $2

With the flex format and 1.5 PPR for TEs it's hard not to load up on them. The top TEs were pretty expensive but the low and mid tier are are cheap, and they'll combine for some big weeks.

PK    Ryan Succop    TEN    $2
PK    Andrew Franks    MIA    $2
PK    Nick Folk    NYJ    $2

Take all the $2 kickers, that's my philosophy.

DST    San Diego Chargers    SD    $2
DST    Tennessee Titans    TEN    $2
DST    Cleveland Browns    CLE    $2
DST    New Orleans Saints    NO    $2

Take all the $2 defenses, that's my philosophy.

Because there are more $2 PKs and DSTs this year, I'm back to 30 players after going with 28 or so last year (don't quite remember).
You have two of your top 3 RBs and your top 2 WRs sharing a late week 11 bye.  I'd be shocked if you make it past that week.

Probably wont make it far but here is my team for this year.

QB- Dalton (12), Taylor (11).. probably should have gotten a third

RB- Murray (15), Gordon (14), Crowell (10), Thompson (7), Booker (6), White (5), Michael (4), Morris (3)... quantity vs quality I guess you can say

WR- Brown (35), Evans (24), Benjamin (18), Marvin Jones (12), Funchess (6), Hogan (5), Stills (4), Eli Rogers (4).. like the WR core, figure itll be the strength of the team

TE- Allen (11), Bennett (9), Cook (8), Green (4), Gillmore (3)... cheap but upside guys

K- Santos (5), McManus (5)

D- Rams (6), Skins (4)... thinking that $2 strategy some were talking about may have been better

Kirk Cousins
Derek Carr
Alex Smith

I will not survive

:banned:

I went the full 30 and one of more challenging things I had to deal with was I kept coming in over 30.

QB:

Brady $15

*not usually worried about advancing first few weeks so his suspension not major concern. Best weapons he's had in years IMO, huge when he gets back

Rivers $14

*value fact he's not missed a game, is almost always a borderline top 12 fantasy QB at worse but last year was so much more before injuries devastated team.

RG3 $7

*super high upside, the same upside he had his rookie season only he has way better set of weapons to work with on a team figuring to be trailing.

RB:

Bell $27

*similar to Brady not really worried about advancing first few weeks. From weeks 4-16 he's my #1 RB.

Foster $12

*injuries always a concern high upside pass catching RB and he's healthy now and with no Bell to start that curbs loss

Ware $8

*have not read this thread but I imagine a late addition to a lot of teams but West news puts damper on it but again some assistance while I wait on Bell

Derrick Henry $7

*good value for the money. I think he's an ideal best ball/DE type player when Demarco is healthy and just an all around really nice option if Demarco goes down.

Devontae Booker $6

*I love high end hancuffs. CJ Anderson I don't believe has ever had more than 180 carries in a pro or college season so I'm highly dubious he holds up.

James White $5

*I'm sure another popular late addition. Not a huge fan as I don't think he is even Vereen but inconsistency of NE RB rotation not as much of issue in this format and good price.

Christine Michael $4

*cheap, high upside.

Alfred Morris $3

*I had DMC getting backup job but when he got put on PUP I vaulted Morris up as we know anyone can run behind that OL and Elliot is rookie who recently dealt with hammys.

WR:

Brandin Cooks $22

*consistency can be issue in some leagues but again in best ball/DE not as much a worry and felt his price was bargain.

Amari Cooper $21

*have him rated above Cooks so if I thought Cooks was good value I view him as better value.

Josh Gordon $13

*my 4th suspended players so maybe taking this advancing early for granted to extre8me but love the upside and love hookups as he is with RG3.

Marvin Jones $12

*I got him as #1 WR on Lions this year.

Phillip Dorsett $9

*Luck injury rumors a little concerning but if Luck healthy I view Dorsett as a less expensive John Brown.

Devin Funchess $6

*opener left a little to be desired but what I term as high upside shot

Chris Hogan $5

*another guy I view as at worst solid to high upside. I also like hookups and loading up on Brady hookups.

Kenny Stills $4

*value play, big play guy who is better in formats where you don't have to set a lineup.

TE

Antonio Gates $11

*cheap cost for TE who was #9 TE in this format once he returned. Rivers hookup as well

Martellus Bennett $9

*I'm buying the two TE as 80% of offense talk which makes him high upside and again another Brady hookup.

Virgin Green $4

*cheap cost for someone who to me is at high end backup or low end starter. No good third WR on a TE friendly offense, l like that formula.

Hunter Henry $4

*don't usually trust rookie TE's but he's rare, ready now but main reason was for cheap cost of $15 I lock up TE friendly Chargers duo and Rivers hookups

Jesse James $2

*who can resist this cost? I assume not many people. Should be big red zone target and I don't think Ladarius ever takes a snap as a Steeler.

K

Myers $3

Hopkins $3

Franks $2

D

Texans $5

Raiders $5

Chargers $2

Hadn't noticed that. It's annoying that the bye weeks aren't on the list. (And no, fiddly busy work is not "part of the skill").

But, the odds of me getting past week 11 are better than the odds of getting to week 11 in the first place, so I'll be happy if I get that far.

What's the point in entering if you are going to be happy getting knocked out week 11?

While there is no 22-kicker guy this year :kicksrock: there are TWO 20-kicker guys :excited:

20-Kicker Guy 1

20-Kicker Guy 2

But the real hero of the contest this year is none other than 22 DEFENSE GUY!!!! :pickle: :excited:  :pickle:

22-Defense Guy

And a special shout out to

21-QB Guy!

and

20-QB Guy!

The closest thing to an RB hero is this entry:

14-RB Guy!

It's a similar story with the WRs as the most anybody roostered was 15 - by players.

And for all the talk of cheap TEs - the most anyone roostered was 8.  And there's only 4 guys who did that :kicksrock:

So there ya go!

-QG
It's fun to keep tabs on these guys, but I have never understood why so many folks don't take the contest seriously.I guess I should be glad there are so many junk entries .Guess I shouldn't wonder I think I went out before quite a few of the junk entries last year.

When you submit your entry it shows the byes and that is an easy way to spot your vulnerability.

There are several states that don't allow prizes for this contest, so if you can't win anything why not fill out a fun entry and see how long it can last?

Actually now that I look at it it's not that bad. I have all my TEs and QBs, still have L.Murray and A.Abdullah and some others at RB, and Marvin Jones and a bunch of other WRs. It'll be my toughest week but it's totally doable.

Ah, that makes a lot sense, and completely forgot that would be the case.  Yeah, I would submit a goofy one too.

So I just realized I have 0 uniqueness something like 5 of top 6 backs 5 of top wr and TE! Im I dead or has anyone...won this thing going plain jane

What about QB, Def, etc..  There is uniqueness in everybody's roster somewhere.  Try putting in the combos.  How many have your Top QB + Rb+ WR+ TE?

I don't know about winning, but the year I finished #13, Drinen did a running analysis of the "uniqueness factor" of each team and I was always near the bottom.  In fact I was the "least unique" team in the finals.

Finished 6th or 7th with a team of the most commonly owned a few years back.

Generally speaking the most highly owned players are highly owned for a reason, they are great values.  I think some people worry way too much about uniqueness when it comes to this contest.
