Carrol Dawson on how Hinkie was treated by the media and some fans in Philly....

"There was this kid I was in a Front Office with; he was younger than me. Sorta looked up to me, you know. We did our first work together, worked our way out of the arena in Houston. Things were good, we made the most of it. During the Duncan Era, we used analytics to pick off talent and flip them for draft picks... got Dwight Howard...James Harden, too. As much as anyone, I loved him and trusted him. Later on he had an idea to build a championship basketball team out of a two bit East Coast city that was a train stop-over for fans on their way to the Boston Garden. That kid's name was Sam Hinkie, and the team he invented was the Philadelphia 76ers. This was a great man, a man of vision and guts. And there isn't even a plaque, or a signpost or a statue of him in that town! Someone put a pink slip in his mailbox. No one knows who gave the order. When I heard it, I wasn't angry; I knew Sam, I knew he was head-strong, liked obscure analytics, thought outside the box. So when he turned up fired, I let it go. And I said to myself, this is the business we've chosen; I didn't ask who gave the order, because it had nothing to do with business!"

The thread is barely a week old and already everyone else is playing for second place. [Insert Warriors joke here]

I don't know why I am looking forward to tonight. Denver is actually putting together a nice group of young players (hopefully will add Collins or maybe OG tonight) but the best case scenario is a 6-8 playoff spot and a first round exit.

Then management will do as they have since the beginning of time with this team, lose patience, trade assets, tank and then try and rebuild--rinse and repeat. It is so cute the Denver media thinks this team has a shot at Butler or CP3 signing here. It is really frustrating being a Nuggets or any 2nd-3rd tier team. Frankly with the direction the league is going with the super team idea, they should just downsize to like 12 teams and have like 6 all-star games played around the league each night.

Oh and I know   just to save you guys the trouble  :P

But here's to an excuse to drink beer tonight.

Gotta give my brother credit for this one:

Embiid:[narrating]

"In 2016, Sam Hinkie escaped from the Philadelphia 76ers. All they found of him was a 13 page manifesto, an open Excel spreadsheet, and a Logitech keyboard, damn near worn down to the nub. I remember thinking it would take a man six years to force his way out of here. Old Sam did it in less than three. Oh, Sam loved analytics. I imagine it appealed to his meticulous nature. A SportsVU data chart here, ten years of motion capture on-court mapping there. Analytics is the study of metrics and time. That's all it takes really, metrics, and time. That, was a big ####### tank. Like I said, in Philadelphia a man will do most anything to keep his mind occupied. Turns out Sam's favorite hobby was plotting ways for his team to lose, a game at a time. I guess after they made him pass on Porzingis, Sam decided he'd been here just about long enough. Sam did like he was told, drafted Jahlil Okafor, signed Kendall Marshall. The owners simply didn't notice. Neither did I... I mean, seriously, how often do you really look at a mans transactions? Sam crawled to freedom through three years of #### smelling foulness I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want to. Three years... that's almost a whole presidential term, just shy of half a decade."

Only thing Phil Jackson has done successfully as #Knicks president is make the Isiah Thomas tenure in NY feel like "the good old days"

Dang shame, that the #Knicks last title was the one Whoopi won in "Eddie"

Updated #Knicks fans most-hated people power rankings: 1 Dolan 2 Current Phil Jackson 3 Reggie Miller 4 Isiah 5 Bulls coach Phil Jackson

Woke up happy because Lebron lost, then the realization that "Phil Jackson" is still my #Knicks Prez hit me.

dolan doesn't give a crap cause the Nix will sell out every game no matter the product.  follow the money.  the bottom line to him and daddy is money and I don't think his pockets can be dented.  he is an arrogant SOB, does no interviews and pretty much tells fans to #### off.   NY has so much corporate money that season tickets are just something to give away now to an out of town client.  hard to imagine that since 2000 this team has employed layden, Thomas and Jackson to run it into the ground.  only the dude from indy made any head way and dolan forced him to trade for melo then fired him.

and not for nothing, for a guy that misses chunks of seasons, joel embiid sure does yap alot  why not play more than 31 games then you can blabber about..

Local radio reporting that Phil asked for both Brooklyn picks, Jaylen Brown and Jae Crowder...surprised he didn't ask for the C's to throw in a Russell and Havlichek as well...that is a no go...I would love to see Porzingas in Boston but not at that price...

Well crowder is replaceable. Brown looked good in garbage playoff time but iffy in the regular season. I guess #3 overall and probably a top-5 for Porzingis? I mean that should be the price for that guy. Highly unlikely anybody Boston drafts or Brown ends up better than him.

I mean, what do you think it would cost? He's also basically under team control for 5 more years.

That is too much, I would do Brown, number 3, and Crowder

We had people in here earlier saying Porzingis wasn't worth the 1st overall pick, when the Celtics still had it.

People get tied into terms like the #1 pick and top-5 pick without applying names and actual worth to it. What are the odds Fultz ends up better than Porzingis? I'd say pretty low, and no matter what we already know he can play and dominate in the league. Not saying Philly should trade for him as he makes less sense there, but Boston damn sure should have given up the #1 and something else for him.

The good thing about Boston fans being delusional about what it should take to acquire Porzingis is that the one person on the planet who happens to agree with you, he also happens to run the Knicks.

I don't know how many more life lines the Celtics can be offered by the basketball gods before they sacrifice the little leprechaun and move on to another team.

Agreed.

Rumor is the Kings are very interested in Drummond. Please make this happen.
I'm seeing it would be the 10th pick and Afflalo (who would be cut for cap relief) for Drummond. That would give the Pistons 10 and 12, and I assume they'd get a shooter (Monk/Kennard) with one pick and a big (Collins/Collins) with the other.

Trading Drummond would probably further upset the already annoying Reggie Jackson so they'd likely have to get rid of him for cheap too. They'd basically be back to a full-on rebuild. I don't know if I like that, but there's not a lot of good scenarios for the Pistons at this point.

#3, Crowder, Smart and 2018 Brooklyn pick for Porzingas and #8 pick

My husband is working at the new arena, if SVG pulled that off I would see if they could rename the building to SVG arena or make a statue of him right now.

I wouldn't do that (not to say the Kings won't) with Drummond's contract. It's unclear whether he's an asset or liability with $105m owed over the next four years.

I disagree with everyone throwing around Jae Crowder frivolously in trade deals. The guy plays awesome defense and is a perfect fit for that team.

Trading for Porzingus would wreck that team. You already have a soft big man who shoots 3s in Al Horford.

No point to dismantle a team that went to the Eastern Conference finals for Porzingus...
