2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

Alabama already lost  the playin game for their own division......they lost....
And yet they made the 4 team playoff. What's your point, that they shouldn't be in an 8 team playoff because they are in the 4 team playoff? or do you think it should go back to a 2 team championship game?

My overall point is that an 8 team playoff will include everyone that has an argument to be in the playoff. Each year it will also probably include one or two teams who may not deserve to have a chance to be considered but who won power 5 conference championships so they are in. C'est la vie. Everything gets decided on the field rather than by a committee. The 12 game regular season does not do enough to fairly narrow the field to 4 teams for a playoff, in my opinion. Add in that the conference championship games sometimes benefit the team that doesn't make the championship game (Alabama) and hurts the team that does (Wisconsin), because the team that didn't make it, is safe from losing an extra game to a very good team.

If Norvell stays through the game, Memphis will Roll in the Liberty Bowl.

Currently 3.5pt faves from what I'm seeing. I'm guessing double digits.

UCF apparently has their new coach and are telling the team right now. AD is hyping up the announcement as a surprise.

I continue to believe Taggart is a great recruiter and not a very good coach.  He hired some great assistant coaches (Jim Leavitt, Mario Cristobal,  Joe Salave'a).  Leavitt has already told recruits he plans on staying even if Taggart leaves.  I have heard FSU wants Taggart to bring his assistants as they realize how good they are.

Most Oregon fans are pissed off the way Taggart has handled this and want him gone now.  I would be perfectly happy of Taggart leaves and the name Leavitt head coach and retain Cristobal.   Another possibility would be Sumlin and keeping Leavitt as DC.

Florida State making a big mistake if they give Taggart a bunch of money in my opinion.  A career record under .500 and a very undisciplined team that leads nation in penalties.

If he leaves, he takes all the recruits with him.  Not all of us want him gone.  And I'd rather have Ray Handley or Rich Kotite than Kevin Sumlin.

The other thing about his record is he took over dumpster fires at WKU and USF and turned them around. I imagine noonan knows that and is just lying to himself.

I feel like I'm in the recruiting thread watching people try to convince themselves that losing out on a prized commodity really isn't a big deal

Taggart has put himself in a difficult position.  FSU is demanding Leavitt and Cristobal come with him in a package deal.  They understand Taggart is not great without them.  Unfortunately for Taggart, they are not as impressionable as 17 year old kids.

We saw first hand how he coached when Herbert got hurt.  His decision making in games was very questionable.  Leavitt was the key this year for Oregon.  I hope Taggart stays only because of the recruits he has lined up.

I haven't seen one FSU source say they are demanding that, and they can't, since those guys are under separate contracts. Not like Willie or FSU makes that decision on their own.

Stop believing all the stupid message board crap you read.

Taggart didn't have Leavitt and went 10-2 at USF the year before.

Not to mention, there's a big difference in trusting your guy to assemble the necessary staff, and being convinced your guy is your guy but only if he can have a couple of assistants helping him out. No school is making a massive financial commitment to the latter guy. Doesn't pass the smell test.

Maybe you see an AD be willing to give a guy a shot who has never been a HC before if he is willing to have a guy on staff who has served in that capacity, just to help things run smoothly during the acclimation process. But Taggart has done it already and FSU doesn't need to find a guy like that.

Boosters at FSU want Mario and Jim as a package deal.  It may in fact be the hold up.  Cappy is correct that Jim and Mario have their own contract and FSU would have to negotiate with them as well.

Dude trust me, I am way closer to any boosters at FSU than you ever will be. This isn't part of it.

I'm sure they want them but it isn't part of the negotiation at all.

#MULTIPLE SOURCES: If Oregon loses Taggert to FSU, the Noles will loss their Nike contract. Leavitt is apparently on board but only if the new apparel deal is with Jnco. He apparently likes how his ### looks in those pants.

Was this posted at the Onion?

Bottom line is FSU knows if Taggart doesn't bring his all star staff he is not nearly as attractive.  I suspect the delay is trying to convince the assistants to bolt.  I don't believe Leavitt will go which puts Taggart in a pickle.

If you're worried about a coach's assistants more than the coach, you are probably hiring the wrong guy.

"A team meeting at Oregon has been scheduled for 1:30 PST, I'm told."

probably to discuss the status of the assistants.

Taggart to FSU, Mario Cristobal new head coach at Oregon, Jim Leavitt stays at Oregon as defensive cordinator.   Best case scenario for Oregon!  Good luck with Taggart!

You're just making this up, or read it from somebody who did, but even if it were true that is far from the best case for Oregon.

If the above is in fact is correct,  it is absolutely the best case for Oregon.  Taggart is a snake oil salesman who has qualified for 4 bowl games and will have only coached in one of them!

I know you're upset but you sound dumb. Cristobal is not the best option to be anybody's head coach. Oregon is a very good program, you guys will be fine.

Edit: if Oregon wants to hire him to keep recruiting going, I guess that is somewhat understandable but really not smart.

From Twitter:

This has nothing to do with Oregon: One of my favorite Taggart stories is when USF played FSU and some of Willie’s family showed up at the game in ‘Noles gear. They apologized, but didn’t change.

A while back Willie Taggart told me a story about when he was at USF, his team was playing FSU, his brother apologized to him, "Sorry but the Noles are squad, I gotta root for them."

I can confirm that the Noles in fact, are squad.

Cristobal was 99% of the way to taking the Rutgers job following Schiano going to Tampa Bay, but he bailed when his wife didn't want to move. That left us with Kyle Flood who tore down everything that Schiano built and literally set the program back 5 years.

Cristobal would have been a marginal improvement over Flood. Oregon going with him, with their money, is nuts.

God I wish I weren't lazy or cared enough to go back and read your comments about the hiring of Taggart.  Would have to be a pretty incredible read

FTR, I'm also a bit surprised that Taggart was identified as the guy so quickly for FSU. Not that he isn't deserving of the job, just figured that he would have been more like #3 on the list vs #1.

That being said, a lot can be said about just going to get your guy immediately and avoiding all the other bull####.

They didn't even talk to anybody else. He was #1 with a bullet.
