110k people at a rivalry 110 years old has a bit of an impact. The Chargers entire season attendance may edge that out.

Watched the whole thing.  Nearly 6 hours of football.  Obviously disappointed at the way it ended but can't fault the Bulls.  Through 6 games, they're 3-3 (1-1) and have far exceeded my expectations for the season.  I expected them to be a 3-4 win team and they look like they're a 6-7 win team unless they totally collapse down the stretch.

I don't know it was the playcalling or if he's just a better player, but backup QB Drew Anderson really shined tonight.  Not just the gaudy stats but he passed the eye test.  Made some really nice throws, great placement on the ball, nice zip on it.  Really impressed.  There could legitimately be a QB competition when Tyree Jackson is back in the picture.

There are a handful of players that could have some pro prospects on this team.  WR Anthony Johnson has really impressed me through 6 games.   He had 11-140-1 against Minnesota and had 11-195-2 tonight.  6'2", 210, with premier speed and great hands.  Made some catches in traffic, went up and high-pointed a few, even made a one-handed catch for a TD.   He has looked like the real deal since the season opener.  CB Cam Lewis has been playing with a club-style cast on his arm, still making plays.  And LB Khalil Hodge is a ballhawk.  Those 2 defenders are rock solid and really solid building blocks.

Overall it's obviously a heartbreaker to lose a 7 OT game on homecoming, especially in a potential massive upset against a Western Michigan team that had an incredible season last year.  But they showed heart tonight and I'm optimistic about the second half of the season.  They could be a fringe bowl team.  For a UB fan, that's a big deal.  :shrug:

Yes, that's where it began...and after a good defensive play they put their hand on their helmet like a shark fin.  They also trademarked it legally then.

I really thought you of all people would have known this one. I'm pretty sure Admiral Ackbar won the "exhaustive mascot change process" vote and the bear was just some random pick after Lucasfilms declined to give the school the rights

:kicksrock:  In my defense, I wasn't even in college in 2010, but I admit it's a real crappy defense.

Gary Anderson out as head coach of Oregon State.  Wow.
 

The Oregon State Beavers and football coach Gary Andersen mutually parted ways effective immediately, the school announced Monday.

Cornerbacks coach Cory Hall will take over as interim coach. A news conference is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. featuring Hall and athletic director Scott Barnes.

"I thank Gary for his many contributions to our student-athletes, OSU Athletics and Oregon State University," Barnes said in a statement. "OSU football has advanced significantly in many ways during Gary's tenure here, including in our facilities and student-athlete academic performance. This program is poised for success on and off the field."

Andersen leaves with a 7-23 overall record at Oregon State in two-plus seasons. He was under contract through the 2021 season, but he and the university have agreed to release each other from "all future contract obligations and payments," the school said.

"After many discussions with Scott, waiving my contract is the correct decision and enables the young men and the program to move forward and concentrate on the rest of this season," Andersen said in a statement from OSU. "Coaching is not about the mighty dollar. It is about teaching and putting young men in a position to succeed on and off the field. Success comes when all parties involved are moving in the same direction."

Barnes and Andersen worked together at Utah State before being reunited at OSU when Barnes was hired this past winter.

"This is an exceptionally difficult time for me, personally and professionally," Barnes said in the statement. "I have known Gary for many years and respect him highly as a person, my friend, a head football coach and an incredible leader of young men. The timing of this is very difficult; however it is the best for all involved."

Barnes had given Andersen a vote of confidence less than two weeks ago. Andersen would have had $11.6 million remaining on his contract after this season.

"Coach Andersen's decision to waive his remaining compensation is unprecedented in major college athletics," Barnes said. "His decision is made for the right reasons and values, and it speaks volumes about the kind of honorable person that Gary Andersen is."

The Beavers are 1-5 and will host Colorado at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Really weird situation.  I know the team is bad but he was given no ultimatums to win right away.  This isn't LSU - he had all kinds of time to try and turn it around.  Fans have no expectations.  I have no idea who comes in next.  Won't be Chip Kelly.

Gordon told Uninterrupted that, contrary to the narrative that the NFL banned him for weed, he has in reality been using many drugs, legal and illegal, for many years.

“I’ve used alcohol on many, many occasions, Xanax on many occasions, cocaine several occasions, marijuana most of my life, codeine, cough syrup, methazine — very prevalent where I’m from. It’s what I grew up using,” Gordon said.

Gordon said people have usually looked past his drug use because he’s such a talented football player. He said at Baylor, in particular, he got away with whatever he wanted to do: A Baylor coach actually gave him a substance he could drink before taking drug tests designed to mask the presence of drugs in his system.

“I’ve been enabled most of my life,” Gordon said. “I’ve been enabled by coaches, teachers, professors, everybody, pretty much, gave me a second chance because of my ability. Not too long after I got arrested for possession of marijuana at Baylor, one of my coaches came by saying, ‘You are going to get drug tested by the compliance office. This is how it’s going to work, this is what they are going to do. If they do call you in, here goes these bottles of detox.’ He showed me how to drink them, showed me how to take them. That was my first experience with getting over on the system and the authority not really being serious because it was being guided by someone who was employed by the university.”
