2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (2 Viewers)

He probably didn't get contacted by FSU. But his agent did.

An Oregon fan not understanding how this stuff works is amazing.
No, an insider at Oregon that I trust has said Willie contacted FSU first.  I assume like you he instructed his agent.

Stop and ask yourself how an Oregon insider would have this information. Willie told them? An FSU admin did? Why would an Oregon insider have a trusted source at FSU that would share that info?

Stop believing clickbait crap.

Valid point.  I wondered the same myself.  However,  he has been correct so many times in the past so I trust him.  Perhaps Taggerts agent mentioned it when talking with the Oregon AD.

Jimmie Sexton definitely did not mention that. Lol. I can promise you that.

Interesting that Mullen has offered a prominent JuCo QB. Wondering if this has any effect on the Matt Corral courtship.

I don’t know...seems to me the large majority of Fan,especially Casual Fan on Facebook, thinks their departing coach ‘has no integrity’.
Taggart is a lightning rod though. I've heard the third school in 365 days and only actually coaching  1 out of 4 bowl games stat via multiple outlets.

And then you have this from a Gators blogger

@ThomasGoldkamp: Fans bristle at "negative recruiting" but if you're Dan Mullen and Florida, you pretty much have to play the loyalty card in head-to-head battles vs. FSU now.

Personally I just think it's business and the way things go. I don't blame Taggart for going to a situation where he's happier/better paid. Now the double standard for the hoops that a guy like Felipe Franks has to jump through if he wants to transfer sucks though.

How many days has Tennessee been on the clock for? Fsu wrapped this thing up with target 1 in 4.5 days.
Pruitt’s 2nd interview is today apparently, while he’s out recruiting in Texas.  Along with Steele and Tucker, doesn’t sound like they have much of any competition at the moment.

Is the Venables things really a done deal? That's shocking.
Not a done deal -him taking the same position at Arkansas is crazy to me. I just can’t see it happening.  Maybe there’s something underneath it all, but at this point I’m just taking it as rumors.

Credible sources have it though. But yea I would still be surprised. He and Morris must be bros for life or something.

You never know, crazier things have happened. He gets to scheme with an endless stream of nfl talent as it stands right now, so why put yourself in a position to be 4th in line for defensive players in your own division.

He and Morris are boys - he actually bought Chad’s house when Chad went to SMU. I don’t expect to keep BV forever or anything, I just didn’t think it would be to another DC job. If he does go, expect Dabo to act quickly and bring Marion Hobby back from the Jags.

I can't imagine Venables leaving Clemson for Arkansas for the DC job.  There was some interest from his "reps" about the HC job at Ark.  Apparently, he was annoyed by the questions surrounding it before the Miami game.

He loves his job at Clemson and, imo, he would only leave it for a head coaching job.  Venables' son (6'2, 224 LB) also is verbally committed to play at Clemson for the 2018 class.  He's making $1.7m as a DC, which is top three in NCAA for a non-head coach.  But, if the money is right, I guess he would pack his kids and move anywhere.

And fans of the hiring school will always defend the new guy and the process, whereas the reality is none of us has a clue, even those who have “insiders” on speed dial.  The fact is, morality and “integrity” judgments really have no place in the discussion. Coaches and other professionals  make decisions based on what is best for #1, as its always has been, always will be, and as it should be.

I mean if he's that tight with somebody it makes sense. Also he might feel like he's not getting any headway for HC opportunities at Clemson for some reason. I personally don't understand why he's not at least coaching a place like Arkansas, Mississippi State or Florida right now.

"A team meeting at Oregon has been scheduled for 1:30 PST, I'm told."

probably to discuss the status of the assistants.
my sources tell me, FSU has locked up the strength & conditioning guy but having trouble getting his grad assistants to hitch a ride to Florida

Jags might actually have a game after Christmas that counts for once.

No, seriously.

Volnation confident that Jeremy Pruitt will be their next HC. Hes been a top DC for a long time; probably time he earned his shot. Rumors of coordinator hires are still all over the map.

As you would expect, reactions there range from "home run" to "burn it down".

Clemson writers saying Venables stuff is just talk. Also if he took a lateral position move, the buy out is enormous. HC, no. DC, yes.

“That a girls?” you can hear him ask, while athletic director Ray Anderson chuckles in the background.

“No, this is a game jersey,” the man holding up the uniform responds. “See how tight it is?”

“This is a GAME JERSEY?” Herm asks again in complete astonishment. “That is nuts. I thought it was a girls, or little kids jersey.”

Herm is in for some fun times.

SMU list of candidates to replace Morris

"according to several well connected sources"  :coffee: :

We're hearing SMU’s Chad Morris is headed to Arkansas to replace Bret Bielema, and multiple well-connected sources at SMU have told Horns247 that Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando is under consideration to replace Morris.

Along with Orlando, SMU interim head coach Jeff Traylor, who was an assistant at Texas under Charlie Strong for two seasons (2015, 2016), North Texas head coach Seth Littrell, UTSA head coach Frank Wilson and former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin are among the possible replacements to fill the vacancy, sources said.
Diverse mix of schools for their football programs.

He’s actually moved up the coaching ranks quickly....this year is only his 5th at the Coordinator level, and really only spent 3 as a position coach...and has never been a HC, even at Hoover.  He has been successful everywhere though.

Supposedly that Texas A&M thing is a joke, but it's a great one.  That poster supposedly trolls his home board often with things like that.  Kind of like that Alabama one from earlier in the year where someone wondered if Tua was having trouble with the language.

This, however, isn't a troll:

What's funny to me is to see Alabama fans talking about this wondering if it would make it easier to get Dabo to Alabama when Saban retires.  That conversation would not have happened even 3 years ago, the first time Alabama and Clemson played for the title.  I don't see him doing well in the pros, much like Saban.

Really?  In a league that has employed Ben McAdoo, Jim Tomsula, Marc Trestman and Marty Mornhinweg as head coaches, you think Dabo is a laughable option?
I like Dabo a lot and don't mean to diminish his accomplishments at all but his biggest strength is recruiting and connecting with the players.  Those guys will run through a brick wall for him and most games he has superior talent to his opponent.  That won't be the case in the NFL and grown ### men aren't going to buy the rah rah shtick that college kids buy.

This is it. He’s the epitome of a college coach, and even moreso a southern college coach. I’m not sure his talents would play very well at somewhere like USC or Michigan even, but they’re great for the southeast.

Hasn't been much talk about it in here but this Rodney Anderson rape accusation is really weird. It happened on November 16th, and she didn't remember anything until December 4th. The police report is incredibly sparse, and according to Anderson's attorney he has multiple text messages from her (in between the 16th and 4th) where she is trying to instigate a relationship with him. He is denying everything. I'm not sure if he's still with the team right now or what but from what I am reading they expect the investigation to be done soon and charges are extremely unlikely.
