2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (2 Viewers)

Holy ####.  I'm sitting in a hotel in Oregon watching the local news after the Ravens vs Steelers game and Joey Heisman is the sports guy.  I guess that's better than selling playground equipment.  Just thought it was interesting timing after these comments.

Edit:  I guess he's 1 of 3 sports guys on KGW8.  :oldunsure:
FIFY

Charlie Batch is a businessman.

He's doing fine.  He owns a restaurant, does some sports, works when he wants, is a dad the rest of the time.  There are a lot more former athletes doing way worse than Joey Harrington.  He's a damn good guy, too.  Does a LOT for charity.

Plays a mean piano too.

So @Don't Noonan and @General Malaise, my dad texted me today that Leavitt stayed at Oregon.  Is this true?  I can't find it anywhere.
There was a post on 247 that claimed Leavitt called a player's meeting yesterday and said he is staying at Oregon.  However,  multiple posters claimed this was not true and I find it hard to believe that players would not have tweeted about it if it were true.

Leavitt has been extremely quiet but everything I have heard is that they are trying to keep him but he is likely following the weasel to FSU.  He has family ties in Florida, no state income tax, and the biggest reason is the state retirement benefits he would get by returning to Florida.  His pension looks at his top 5 years earnings in Florida to determine his retirement income.  If FSU pays him $1.15 to match his current salary it would increase his pension around $40-$50k per year in retirement because it would drop two lower years of income to replace with his highest.

All that being said, it would not shock me if Oregon upped the ante and paid him $1.5M and he decided to stay.

Haha you sound just like my dad.  Well I wish Oregon had named him HC, but hopefully Uncle Phil realizes Mario might be screwed without Leavitt and kicks in enough Jordans to keep him.

I've never heard of a college football coach getting a state pension.
The thought here is that one of the reasons Mark Whipple came out of retirement (he was out of football for a year and living in Arizona) and came back to UMass is because he needed four more years after he was here for six years in his first stint. It kicked it at the end of this season (top three earnings years for Mass. state employees) ... Plus he is getting an undetermined extension beyond the final year of his deal next season.

So, does our Oregon outrage toward Taggart extend ro Royce Freeman?
Mine does not (of course I have little outrage for Taggart, just disappointment at anything that sets the program back).  This is going to happen more and more for players of teams not in the playoffs/major bowls.  But when I texted my dad the news today he made some connection between money-hungry players and how this kid probably won't stand for the anthem.

Fun to have these level-headed, informed discussions with my dad.  Sigh.

Oh my god this ####### sucks.  Hate this coach so much already.
It's not really his fault. He shouldn't be in this position. It's hysterical one of the 30 best jobs in America is headed by that guy. At least it will probably be bad enough that it should last only one year.

Tell Uncle Phil you made a terrible mistake. Fire him at halftime.

Can't wait for a full season of Cristobal.
Yeah that was ugly to watch today.   Definitely lowering my expectations for next year.  The offensive line was atrocious and given that is Cristobal expertise even more disappointing.

However, Chip Kelly lost in his debut to Boise State so maybe that is a good omen.  Hopefully some of these 4 and 5 star WRs the Ducks are in on can see there is an opportunity to start next year with a solid QB in Herbert.

No criminal charges against Rodney Anderson. And the "victim" has withdrawn her request for an order of protection. Her friends sunk her:

One friend told police Thornton had said "this would be a 'great thing' for her political career following the Air Force," The Oklahoman has learned. The friend told police Thornton had said "female-empowered political organizations would love something like this."
