2018-19 NBA Thread: Magic Johnson leaves Lakers in order to pursue other jobs to be completely terrible at (2 Viewers)

So if Philly signs Bron, that means no room for Reddick right? Losing Reddick, Belinelli and Irsan is a lot of outside shooting gone.

Lebron at 35 is almost certainly one of the 5 best players in the league. Ben Simmons literally cannot shoot, how will he ever be an option over him?
Bron developed a jumper didn't he? Too early to say with Simmons right now that he can't ever do that. Either way Embiid should be the main option in the post where he's proven the ability to dominate, and the offense hasn't done a good job feeding him there. I'll take a prime Embiid consistently getting fed in the paint over an aged LeBron. But that has to do more with coaching.

If Bron seriously wants to win titles at this point, and wants to have a real chance against GS, I think the only options he has left are Houston and Boston.
why Boston? I know that Baynes signing is HUUUGGEE, but really? 2 teams with no cap room are his only options

LeBron at 18 had a much better jumper than Simmons at 21. He may turn into a guy that you can't abandon at the 3 point line but it is unlikely he ever turns into even an average jump shooter.

@modogg it might be happening.

If he doesn't end up on the Lakers, I'd love to see LeBron on the Sixers. Because screw the Celtics.
:hifive:  who knows, and i am already not liking Lebron for stealing 2 weeks of my life to watch his plane land in LA. Sure i'll be over that by summer league though when Zaire Smith dunks from half court

Philly will get killed by GS in the Finals as long as KD is there. That's just a fact. Sorry.

And FTR I hate the Baynes signing, hate they gonna spend valuable cap space on Smart, and think there's way too much hype right now in the city for a 27th pick.

This idea that Belinelli and Ersan were great shooters is a little overblown, they can find guys that are comparable and maybe even pay a little defense (though i will go to my deathbed loving Ersan's ability to draw a charge)

Maybe Reddick will take less in exchange for being overpaid last year

You know, if this Philly meeting with LeBron's agent goes really, really well, maybe they might be able to get a meeting with LeBron himself!

People mention Boston for LeBron....there’s no way Boston would purposely bring on the Kyrie meltdown like that.

I’ve hated Redick since his college days but man he would be deadly on a team with LeBron getting kick outs with no defender within 5’.
In this hypothetical scenario, Golden State would just wash him away like they did with Korver.

If they can trade Bayless straight out to someone else's cap space, they will have just under $39 million in space.  That should enable them to sign Lebron for 35.6 and still use the full midlevel for Redick, so maybe he takes 3/28 or 4/37.

i think, anyway...

They wouldn’t have the MLE if they use space. They’d have to use the room exception which is like $5m IIRC.

Whoops, my bad.  Was thinking it was just taxpayer vs non taxpayer, not the apron. Which would defeat the whole purpose.

so I guess do the above, sign Ellington or Bradley to go just over the cap and then sign Redick to the MLE?

So I can't tell if media are freaking out about Lebron not going to LA or what, but help me out here with ranking value for the following pieces:

Kyle Kuzma (27th pick in 1st round)

Ingram (2nd pick)

Lakers future first (considering they will likely have Lebron and Kawhi if these are used in a trade)

Dario Saric

Robert Covington

Fultz

Zaire Smith

UNprotected 1st rounder from Miami in 20-21

i don't have salaries for each, but the Lakers are under rookie contracts, and Covington signed a team freindly deal this year which will make him around $10 mil/year for an All-NBA guy. Dario still is under a rookie contract, but not sure how much longer he has. Fultz and Smith are under rookie contracts for awhile, but that Fultz one is a bit of money cause he was 1st pick.

Personally, i think Philly has much more to offer than LA, but it depends on what you are looking for. I didn't include Ball cause can't see them trading an injured guy in this deal. So am I way off, or does Philly have more valuable assets and it is working out the details (without a doubt the 5 assets to LAs 3 wins)

False analogy. Lebron’s jumper was never anywhere near that bad.

You’ll be over it before the ink goes dry.

Anywhere but LA please!

Will be crazy if the Spurs (and OKC I guess with an assist) basically force Lebron and Kahwi away from the West. And Magic will be one offseason away from having to fire himself.

Well I guess not that either probably, because they can’t really go over the cap when signing a FA, right?  Is the full mle only for teams already over the cap at the beignning of the new year, or those who have just gone over by signing their own guys?

That Lakers vs Sixers trade package for Kawhi scenario, I'd like the Lakers offer more. However if they really want him out of the West, it's not like the Sixers package isnt just as good. As a Sixers fan, I'd be a bit concerned with how much Bench they'd be giving up.

There are cap holds for most of your own players until you sign them and the hold becomes the actual salary. If you use actual cap space to sign someone else (like LeBron) the team can’t have the MLE.

Best way to understand this is play around with the Capulator.

Are you saying that signing any player with cap space automatically prevents you from using the MLE in that year?
