Somebody on sbnation posted an article the other day about how the service academies cover 21 point spreads 75% of the time because of the clock chewing.

It used to work for GT too.  Johnson would try to get 36-40 minutes and often have 8-10 minute drives.  That feels like 20 years ago now.
