Boy, I nailed that one.

Good thing we got Tim Beckham. The Yankees and Red Sox both make moves to bolster their teams and we trade for Tim Beckham and Jeremy Hellickson. Duquette thinks the division is up for grabs. What is he drinking?
Isn't Angelos pretty notorious for sticking his nose in these deals?

Rule should be changed so that players feet has to land in fair play for a catch to count. Would prevent idiots like Souza from flying into the stands after foul balls too.

They should paint circles on the field defining the positions for each fielder.  The players would have to stay within the area until the pitcher began his windup.  Defenders sprinting into their defensive shifts on every pitch would liven things up.

All kidding aside, and I know the offense was a machine, but how in the hell did this rotation turn into a 116 win team?

Mariners acquired 1B Yonder Alonso from the Athletics in exchange for OF Boog Powell.

Boog Powell is still playing!?!

Powell was drafted by the A's and spent his first three MiLB seasons with the organization.  He was traded as part of a package to Tampa in the 14-15 offseason for Yunel Escobar and Zobrist, who combined to play 67 games for the Oaklands before being dealt themselves.

Agree wholeheartedly. And yes jeters catch where he jumped 20 rows into the stands should have been a foul ball too
:goodposting:  In Federation rules, at least one part of one foot must be in play. This makes more sense to me.

Happy 26th birthday Mike Trout!

Only three players have more homers by their 26th Birthday. Can you guess them?

So the one thing about going to games is you'll see things you never saw before, even if you've seen thousands of games.

Tonight I went to a Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers) against the Fort Wayne Tincaps (Padres) which is Midwest League low A.

I was at Max Scherzer's 20k game and also saw the game live where he set the Tigers singles game k mark with 17 vs the Pirates. So Padres notable prospect Pedro Avilia's 17 ks tonight wasn't new.

But here are the things that happened tonight I've never seen before:

-as we were pulling into the parking lot a ball came flying out of stadium, bounced, and landed in my Dad's lap in the car.

-Avila struck out 9 straight batters in order at one point tonight

-the Loons used a different pitcher in each of the first three innings.

-one of the Loons pitchers hit a batter with a ball that bounced five feet away

-the Loons issued 14 walks and hit three batters. The Tincaps stranded the bases loaded in three consecutive innings and at the end of 9 innings, had one run on one hit and that hit didn't factor into the run.

-the Loons had two hits in the 1st then didn't get another hit off Avila who went 8. In the ninth they had two hits and one was a single into right with a fast runner on second. The RF who hadn't had an assist all year threw a laser to the plate that prevented the walk off.

-in the 10th the Tincaps got a single, passed ball, walk, a bunt that the catcher threw over the 3Bmans head, scoring a run. Then a sac fly, two base error on 1Bman scoring another. Fort Wayne won 4-1 with two hits.

But I save the best for last. I sat next to a guy who had a huge scorebook. I assumed he was a Loons fan who came to every game. So after talking to him about the Cal and Florida State leagues, I asked him how many minor league parks he'd been to. He asked, "active parks or total?" I wanted both.

187 minor league parks including all 159 currently in use.

Talked to him some more and we did the same job in the military, he recently worked with a guy who is a good friend of mine, and he was a minor league play-by-play announcer for two different minor league teams (something I also did briefly).

What a game that was.

Hippling here after vacation, but this intrigued me so I wanted to go back and check things out.  Garcia was really good that year.  4.2 WAR.  #5 in baseball with a 3.05 ERA.  Sele (215) and Moyer (207 2/3) ate up a lot of innings.  Moyer had a 1.10 WHIP which was #7 in baseball that year.  Joel Pineiro was dynamite for 11 starts too with a 1.5 WAR and 204 ERA+, that helped things.  They also had a great bullpen.  Arthur Rhodes was a stud with a 2.4 WAR season pitching to a 1.72 ERA and .853 WHIP.  Jeff Nelson and Kaz Sasaski both had >1 WAR as well.

However, your point stands and ultimately was what caught up to them in the postseason, IMO.  Couldn't match up with Clemens/Mussina/Pettitte in that Yankees series.

I guess I did understand what it's supposed up mean, but really don't buy into it's accuracy and it seems very subjective. What was a-Gons war before bellinger replaced him?  Negative 8?

just seems like a goofy stat that a lot of people throw around

I couldn't see Bruce accepting the qualifying offer.   He's 30 and this could be his best shot at a big multi-year contract, although his type has been devalued in recent years.

The market for slugging COFers is pretty low right now, Bruce and JD are exhibits A and B. Both should get nice offseason deals but as I said way back in May re: JD trade value, teams weren't going to pony up.

Bruce has 29 homers and an 850 OPS and was just traded for a low A reliever.

Not even sure they get good off seasons deals. See: Mark Trumbo
