2018 NHL Thread: Cappy is happy while the rest of us pray to the ping pong gods for Tuesday night (3 Viewers)

Kevin Hayes is going to make a lot of money in the offseason.  Never really saw it in him in the past but he's been good this year.  I don't think the Rangers can/will afford to pay him and if I had my choice, I'd extend Kreider right now cause that guy is really really good.

You know who else is going to make a lot of money?  Mark Stone.
My preference is for them to trade Hayes for a 1st round pick and then re sign him in the offseason. Move Chytl to the wing full time and trade Kreider and zibanejead/Skjei for a top 6-7 pick if it will put a team who may not belong there over the top (Hi Edmonton)

Then Hayes can center line 1, Howden line 2 and Anderson line 3.

   You think a team would move a 1st round pick for a half season of Hayes and then not attempt to resign him?

Zibanejead is younger, cheaper, and my eyes better than Hayes.  Plus, he's locked in for a good contract for a number of years.  And why trade Kreider and Skjei unless you are just punting on Skjei who is also young and locked up for a decent contract.  If he returns to last years form, he's going to be a huge bargain.

I don't follow college/jr/international hockey near enough to determine if there is difference making talent out there in the draft other than Hughes, but I kind of like what the Rangers are doing already.  They have 4 guys in the lineup already 20 and under and only Zuccarelo/STaal and Hank are over 30.  Their goalie pipeline is nice.

Sure, they need more top end talent and that's going to cost them, but I'd hate trading away their best players for hopes at this point.  Also, I'm not as high on Howden as a top 6 player for a strong playoff team. He'd make a nice 3rd or 4th line center.  Namestikov and Fast are not 1st line players either which is an issue.

They got a first for Nash and Hayes is way better than Nash (at the time of the trade last year)

Howden is legit. Not only in skill but in IQ.

Krieder, zibby and Sjkei will all not be around when this team is seriously ready to win a cup so trade them while you can.

I love Kreider but he will hamstring them when they have to sign their young guys. Hayes might to but he seems to like it here and may give a discount. If he doesnt, keep zibby.

I like playing "Draft" DFS hockey.  I was going to bring this up earlier this thread in case there were other DFS players.

I know he's said he will stay in Toronto for his daughters (and do TV and maybe replace Don Cherry at some point) but Brian Burke as Philly GM would be so entertaining and perfect for what they want (ballsy trades, going all-in, truculence) it really needs to happen.

Avs with a big win in Nashville - Rinne and Varly standing on their heads but MacKinnon solves Rinne twice.

7 shots given up by the Wild through two and total control of the game.  not sure how you let that happen, especially when the 3rd has been their best period all season.  oof

Habs outshoot the canes by > 2:1 including 22 to 2 in the third and lose. Lol

Reality is this team is bad. Might as well embrace it and the chance for Hughes.

Is there any chance the Flyers could talk Stevie Y into taking their GM job or is he just killing time until Holland is gone?

Anyone with openings and the resources should go after an Yzerman/Quenneville combo.

Hmmmm

@KKurzNHL: Second straight game there have been multiple Carolina scouts at the Sharks game. Rick Dudley, senior VP of Hockey Ops, has been at both

Avs go up 3-0 - give up a hat trick to Sid in 5 minutes - then come back at the end for a 6-3 win. Guess I need to bear down for a long crazy season. Love the heart the Avs show - MacK with a big game. He opens up so much space. 25 games in both Mack and Mikko with over 40 points on the season. 1 point behind Nashville.

I’m sick and was up watching SportsCenter on ESPN, which I never do. This game’s highlight started w the Avs up 3-0, showed all 3 of Syd’s goals, showed 1 Avs goal, then showed and complained about the Pens not getting a tripping call in the final minute

The Penguin love is ridiculous. But a good reminder never to watch ESPN no matter how sick I am

lesson is: never watch ESPN for hockey coverage (but that was a horrible no-call on Letang getting tripped).

top-5 PDO teams:
TOR 103.1
NYI 102.5
COL 102.4
WAS 102.1
NSH 101.7

bottom-5 PDO teams:
SJS 97.0
VGK 97.7
CAR 97.9
ARI 98.0
FLA 98.1

lol. Leafs, Capitals, Predators have been highest PDO teams since 2016.

Breaking News: Team with Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Andersen has slightly above average shooting and save percentage. Film at 11 (hint, it's just a bunch of ridiculous goals).

for sure, a high PDO is expected for them. but not sure it was ever this high. obviously they are going to keep scoring goals but have to assume some correction is coming for Andersen.

2016-2017: 1.008
2017-2018: 1.019
2018-2019: 1.035

Andersen's save % last 2 years was .918 but he's at .932 this year. Not seeing any clear differences in the shot metrics he's facing.

Ugh. Sounds like Flyers leaning towards Chuck Fletcher.

Homer will make sure he guts the prospect pool so they can eke into playoffs and get blown out.

?

he built a team that has been to the playoffs for 6 straight seasons which is tied with the Ducks for 2nd longest active streak (looks like it will likely be 7 this year) with 100+ points in three of those seasons (not exactly sneaking in).  that was with only three top 10 picks (Granlund 9th 2010, Brodin 10th 2011, Dumba 7th 2012) playing in arguably the toughest division.  I mean, he's not perfect and he's no Stan with all those cups but geeze, what do you want.

and he got Dubnyk for a 3rd round throw away pick.  before that they were Flyering it in net for a couple years.  quite literally with Bryz.

I guess I'm just worried that Holmgren is looking for somebody he knows and somebody who will try to make playoffs this year. Homer is already busy shipping out Hextall guys. (Asst GM and assistant coach)

A couple of the other GM names are up and coming guys. I'd rather they swung for the fences and try to take long range approach.

Seems unlikely.  If he left Tampa because he wasn't close enough to family Philly isn't that different.  It isn't like Yzerman is driving.

Yes, but 1) refs weren't calling anything as seen by malkins hit on mack moments before 2) should have been icing. 3) he embellished a bit but im biased.

that roster is pretty good, might only take a new coach and/or goalie to be a playoff team.  when you say swing for the fences do you mean tear it apart and tank?  would have to sell off quite a bit to tank that roster and they already have a good pipeline/youth.

Wtf are they doing? So you zip the GM, then two days later an assistant coach. And it’s not the assistant coach running the worst penalty kill ove the last two seasons. Wtf is Hakstol still doing here, this makes no sense. I’m just numb to the mess they’ve become.

Swing for the fences = get the absolute best talent evaluator not necessarily who Homer is comfortable with.

ETA- in NFL HC terms, taking a chance on the next Sean McVay instead of rehashing a familiar name.
