2018 NHL Thread: Cappy is happy while the rest of us pray to the ping pong gods for Tuesday night (1 Viewer)

What’s up guys? Just here to point out my Blues are gonna do it. They are gonna coast to that 9 spot.

Nice job getting out of that Berglund contract, Sabre’s. Makes the trade a little more acceptable. Just need to do the same with Sobotka now.

So, umm, about this #LoseForHughes thing.......

@billmeltzer: Eight straight wins and Flyers are now two points above statistical .500.... was a loooooong climb to get there and can't let up now.

@charlieo_conn: It's like when Happy Gilmore learns how to putt except it's the Philadelphia Flyers organization finally finding a long-term solution in goal. "Uh-oh."

The kid is trying to single handedly carry this bunch of lead filled balloons into the playoffs all by himself

Ugh...rough loss for the Rangers.

Had the joy of catching that one in person.
We really need to be in a lose every game from here on out attitude. And that includes the four games I have left for the season.

It is time for the Rangers to have a top pick. Someone who will help speed up the rebuild and maybe draw in Panarin.

Unfortunately, its the Rangers. So even if they get the first pick, I have zero confidence that they will do the right thing with it.

Matthews gets 5 x 11.634M extension. Let the RFA dominoes start to fall.

It seems like too much money with not buying out more UFA years. Rantanen/Marner/Point/Aho/Laine etc... can all get $10+ million (for less than 8 years) and still be under Matthews $$$ so they have to be pretty happy.

5 years vs. 8 years. I guess the rationale is Matthews is so much better than Eichel that his 8 year ask was 13.5+ a season (vs. 10 for Eichel), so 11.6 is the discount for only taking 5 years.

Interesting game in Dallas last night with the Coyotes. Seguin has come back to life, it seems. Coyotes don't look too bad. At all. Probably should have torn down and built back up, but they look...professional?

Again, I follow this casually. Any feedback is appreciated.

5 years also has a lot to do with Marner’s upcoming contract and AAV.

Nylander Connor Brown almost has to be moved at some point.
Bob McKenzie broke down the Leafs cap last night during the game, assuming they go 12 forwards, 6 defencemen, 2 goalies (which they can with their AHL team in Toronto), it's not going to be an issue, despite opposing fans hopes and dreams.

What's he project for Marner?

pretty interesting.

Matthews is making 90% of his money on this contract via bonuses while making the NHL minimum salary.

According to a tax treaty between Canada and the United States, as a U.S. resident Matthews’ massive signing bonuses ($54.5M) would be taxed at 15 per cent in Canada. His salary ($3.65M) would be taxed at 53.53 per cent.

@TSNBobMcKenzie

Auston Matthews year by year breakdown: Year 1: $15.2M SB, $700K salary. Year 2: $15.2M SB, $700K salary. Year 3: $9.7M SB, $750K salary. Year 4: $7.2M SB, $750K salary. Year 5: $7.2M SB, $750K salary.

---

$30 million in the first 13 months... If for whatever reason they wanted to trade him in year 4 or 5, every team in the league could handle it (i.e. even Arizona...)

Not to mention he cashes in before potential 2021 lockout.

Unless this is common practice I would think the Feds won’t appreciate being exploited like this. Adjust the law to be 15% for SB as long as it’s no more than 20% of total compensation; the rest (min of 80% of compensation) is taxed at the regular rate. Something like that.

Dreger: "I'm telling you, unless something drastic changes from the Mitch Marner camp, they believe that he shouldn't get a penny less than what Auston Matthews got today from the Maple #Leafs." 1040

@NicholsOnHockey

Explain what would happen if the rangers put an offer for Marner and toronto didnt match
They can either agree to a package of players and picks or revert to the draft pick tiers

Offer sheet

Highest tier is over 10.148 mil aav. (FOUR first rounders)

Next lower tier is 2 Firsts,  a Second, and a Third

That page is down

So if the Rangers can get 4 picks in one draft, will that work or does it have to be 4 years in a row

Just asking. I doubt it happens. But Marner and Panarin would definitely speed up the rebuild

I think the 4 firsts are in consecutive years but 1 2 3 are in same year.. That's why both teams are willing to negotiate a package. Dubas would hypothetically rather have 2 firsts and NHL ready prospects or 2.

Mitch Marner's father is a complete head case do this wouldn't shock me. He's not going to get that much though.
