2018 NY Mets - Let The Purge begin. (1 Viewer)

Doe Matt Harvey still have it?  With the team playing well I was hoping for maybe a 14-9 season out of Havey with a decent ERA and Ks.

I took him late in my Roto league hoping he can regain some of the magic.  Watching him against Philly he looked like the Harvey of the last 2 years.  Just can`t seem to blow any hitter away anymore.

Harvey is 34-35 lifetime, with his last good season coming in 2015, 3 years ago.  From what I have seen of him, he might be a 5 inning pitcher, that brings average stuff to the mound.  His 2016 & 2017 were pretty similar, except his HRs allowed were inflated in 2017 leading to the 6 ERA.

I don't think he is remotely rosterable in roto right now.  Also, he has won 13 games, 3, 9, 4 & 5.  14 wins means you are on crack.  I could see maybe 8-8, 4.5 ERA.  If he throws 150 innings, maybe 110 Ks.  Marco Estrada and Ian Kennedy are in a tier above Harvey.

I forgot this entire forum existed until the Mets were the best team in baseball. Funny how that worked out...

This team is a whole lot of fun to watch. Amazing what it's like when you have professional hitters at 7.5 spots in the lineup (my half credit is for the pitchers, not the C position), instead of at 6 or even just 5 at random points of the last couple seasons.

Just to show how a great start like this helps...we can play .500 ball the rest of the way and be at 86 wins. Play .600 in the remaining games against the Phils/Marlins/Braves (a reasonable ask) and go .500 against the rest and we're at 90 wins.

6 inning max games have to stop.  This bullpen is not that good.  If Syndergaard is to be considered elite, he needs to be able to throw more than 4-6 innings and 80 pitches.  I would rather Syndergaard in the 7th than Robles.  Also, I saw the mets called up Oswalt......have to assume Matz or Harvey are hurt.
I was saying to my buddies earlier...the silver lining to knowing the bullpen will eventually falter is that the starters really haven't been that good yet as a group. They've been "good" but certainly can be better, and I'm hoping the eventual regression by the pen will be balanced out by the starters at least getting into the 7th with more consistency and reducing the burden overall.

It's also pretty impressive that this run has come with only the Assman significantly outperforming his usual self (well, him and the entire bullpen to be fair). Haven't seen anything from Frazier for power yet and Yo's contributions have come at key, but rare, points for the most part. The big hits are being spread around and I love it.

How right you were.   Watching the game tonight Harvey just does not have it.

Not sure if they'll be able to finish this game today. Rain expected about 3pm and won't stop once it starts.

Gotta score early and hold a lead!

Offense really does not need him but I really thought Rosario would be much better.  Looks over matched at the plate.

Sorry guys - hadn't worn my cap since mid game when we blew the lead a couple nights back.

Metsuperstition back in effect for tonight though, cap in place.

Well done.

I passed out down 4-2. Nice way to wake up. Hopefully Yo starts to get on track, although big hits weren't really a problem before either.

That ump last night has to still be thinking about that ridiculous decision to toss Rendon a couple weeks ago, and that's why he didn't run Roark.

If any of you are not following Keith on Twitter, go right now and follow him. If you're not on Twitter, create an account even if it's only to follow him. I can't begin to describe how much joy it brings me to read his massive ramblings, especially the random throwaways. For example, the latest just now...

Ok. A bit delayed with this tweet. Had to workout, dry cleaners, grocery store, then put everything away and start a nice fire b/c "old man winter" won't relinquish its grip. Warmer this weekend I'm told. My observations on the Metropolitans. I don't have to tell you what a

tremendous win that was last night. Both sides now have bloodied each other. Lines are now drawn in the sand. Both sides have sized each other up. They both know they have a fight on their hands. This is beginning to shape up like our battles with the Cardinals in the 80's.

Let the season progress. It should be as exciting as the Mets have been playing. Good old fashioned baseball. Not home runs, strikeouts, and one base at a time. And don't call it small ball. It's not. It's good solid, aggressive baseball. Timely and clutch hitting.

Céspedes' grand slam was just the coup d'grace. Everything before it was beautiful. Well done Metsies. Unsung heroes? Once again the bench. This time it was Lagares' turn. A two out rib eye steak double down the right field line. This stuff is inspiring within.

Credit Alderson for providing Mickey with a solid bench and Mickey for getting them the playing time they need. And what about Sewald?! Two terrific outings. Notice how he's developed a change and most importantly his more refined four seamer that struck out Harper (up & in).

Love it 'with capital L & I don't mean Pool.' That's from the Music Man folks. But I don't think Robert Preston sang Love in that verse. Anyway, Sewald shouldn't have given up a run last night, but he held the Nats in check through 3 sparkling innings until the Mets unloaded in

the 8th. That win made me very happy. Adrian Gonzalez looks good at the plate, he's been clutch and Cabrera is a player. With an inspirational & animated player on the field and in the dugout in Frazier, the likes I haven't seen since......well, I'm old, I can't remember.

BRAVO! I am now officially excited about this team and the season. I must point out that I am not front-running here. I have a highly professionally trained eye and I am observing very carefully. Like Clouseau in Shot in the Dark..."Oh monsieur, I warn you, my hands are

lethal weapons. I could have killed you with a karate chop!" Those are my baseball eyes. Have a good night. Watch your Mets tonight in Atlanta. Afternoon nap time for Little Keithie. I was the younger brother. But i'm the oldest in the booth. I'm a bit uncomfortable with

that. I bid you adieu.

meh

When asked if he'd be comfortable with a move to the bullpen, Harvey responded, "I am a starting pitcher. I have always been a starting pitcher."
That's the attitude! rolleyes

Thanks for the heads up on Harvey...saved my ERA and WHIP.

Cut Harvey and picked up Pivetta and he has been solid in that dept.

Very impressive win last night. Just didn't have the feel of a game they'd win, even considering how well they've done with coming from behind already this season.

I always like seeing athletes act like they've been there before. Seems too showboat to me.
I hear you but I see a lot of teams doing it these days.  The cards do some weird bird pecking hand thingy.  BTW, we really need a freakin catcher and a first baseman and Wilmer really needs to get traded to the AL where he can be a DH.

Agreed but unfortunately, Dom Smith isn't exactly tearing it up in AAA. I think it's time to start playing Bruce at 1B more often and go with the Nimmo/Lagares platoon. And I don't think they'll give up anyone for a catcher until they see if Plawecki can handle the job. He should be back in a week or 2 I think.

I didn't realize that after the final out of a win, the OF all meet in the middle to celebrate but instead of dancing etc they take off their hats and shake hands like golfers.  :lmao:

deGrom pulled after 4 innings. No word yet on injury.

Eta...hyperextended right elbow.

MRI revealed no damage and he's likely making his next start.

An absolute miracle. If Ramirez was still here, the elbow MRI would have revealed a torn tendon as well as a ruptured ACL, somehow.

Wow,,,great news!

Well took my 3 1/2 year old son to his first game yesterday.  What a disaster this team is right now.  It's so typical mets to have that hot start and then come back crashing to earth.  I should raise my son a Yankee fan, I feel like I should be arrested for child torture at this point.

can't keep trotting out amed and the C spot.  along with the P and AGonz, that's a lot of outs every night.
I heard one of the announcers say that they were planning on moving Bruce to 1b soon. Has that been announced or were they speculating? Obviously it's been an option all along but I hadn't heard it being made public recently.

He's starting there tonight. Nimmo in the OF.

Ugh.

It's early, but it's getting late early with mostly poor pitching and NO hitting. Really kinda need this one with Thor out there.

God this team....
We are down to 1.5 pitches with Degrom hurting.

Down to zero catchers.

2/3 of our outfield has been slumping (and in Conforto's case, abjectly horrid).

Other than that, all's well!

Rock bottom?  Losing 2 of 3 from the Reds and batting out of order?!?  This team never ceases to amaze at it's ineptness.

YUGE WIN!

VIntage Conforto swing there.  Hopefully he's found his stroke, as he finally is showing signs.
