2019 NFL Combine News (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know if the RB's did the vertical? I've not seen it posted but have heard the NFLN crew reference some players vertical.

 
I wish they had a speed test at 45yds, just timing them the last 40 so that you could negate the importance of their track take off.

 
For the record, and I’m not defending his #### 40, Elijah Holyfield has hit 21 mph in a game. That’s elite. I have to wonder some if he’s hurt or bulked too much.

Hill and Sanders are having a day.

Not to worried on Henderson or Trayveon.  Did a study of top fantasy producing RB's a few years ago and came away from that study with 32" on the vertical as my baseline. They at least hit that.

I'm stunned on David Montgomery's vertical.

I say this and see he had a 29.5 in vert. He has the worst ####### agent. He should have been pulled from activities right then.

 
Holyfield drops the pass SMH... whoever his agent is shouldnt take on clients anymore. Guy may go undrafted from today.

Combine is not the end all or be all but I got some baseline stuff I like to see and when you can't hit any of them I won't draft you. I've had two RB's in past few years I liked entering combine that I removed from being someone I would really ever draft, by that I mean someone is going to draft them well before I ever would. .Stepfan Taylor and Alex Collins are those two.  Unless Holyfied saves himself with the 3 cone or 10 yard sprint he'll be the third.

Ya it’s just facing reality. He can not be thought of highly after today. Just can’t be.

 
The biggest thing I've learned right now is who can pass catch.  I'm not going to be projecting guys like Holyfield or Harris as every down backs and hope they can catch (I was doing that before today).  There are so many bad drops by these players during the drills and I'm done being hopeful for some of them.  I still like the way they run and play but landing spot and useage means more to me for them and I'll be ranking them lower than the ones who can pass catch some more after today.  Justice Hill, Alex Barnes, Trayveon Williams, Tony Pollard all move up my board a bit along with some others that have proven that today.

Not in my eyes, but in the eyes of some NFL people yes. Right or wrong, players get over and undervalued because of their 40 times. I would take the good football player over the fast 40 time but it happens every year that teams fall in love with the workout warriors (hence making them millions) and out of love with the 4.6-4.7 type WRs because they "can't separate" despite being able to make plays in college. This is where I think the pressure is real for these guys.

Jerry Rice ran a 4.71 40 time.

I remember hearing a story about Kareem Hunt, and his long receiving TD week 1, 2017, in the 4th qtr.  Not only did he clock a faster 40 time on that play (running start but with pads) vs his combine time.  He ran faster mph than he reached on his combine 40.

Honestly is there any real advantage with receivers over a baseline, say 15 or so reps? I mean you don't want a weakling but it's not like DBs are allowed to grapple with the WRs. 

 
Can’t wait to see Harry’s three come time.  I think it’ll be on par with the best of the slot guys.  

Also feel like AJ Brown is about to drop a 4.60 or worse 40.

Probably not but it’s fun to get excited. As we saw with the RB’s the truth will be put out there tomorrow.

I love Sanders' time (4.5), Trayveon Williams' time (4.51), and Damien Harris (4.49), Justice Hill's time is also good at 4.42

Singletary is a huge disappointment but he was sliding on my board anyways.  He immediately drops to the 3rd round for me.  The other disappointing one is Elijah Holyfield, he slides too

Kind of disappointed that Jalin Moore couldn't run I guess and that Josh Jacobs didn't  

That basically sums up my thoughts on the 40 there.

Official times were 4.53 and 4.49 so let’s not go overboard. Very nice times but not 4.37.

I loved his film but I did try to warn people that small, slow and not catching passes is a scary proposition

I think its an indicator in many cases of that WR's blocking potential. If a guy has a really strong bench, maybe you leave him on the field in short yardage situations, which can give the defense more to worry about. It also could be indicative of the ability to fight through holds, so instead of getting your 5 yards and a 1st down, maybe the extra strong guy, makes the catch, and gets extra yards. 

I don't WR bench is all that important, but I think its a nice thing to have.

You just described James White without the ability to catch passes. Hmmm. Whose a good comp? I can't even think of one. Not good for singletary.

I'd be shocked if Harry was even close to a guy like Isabella. 

4.55 is about my guess for Brown, but I've been underestimating times all day.

And then you have to look at those numbers and that film and really focus on the lower level of competition.

Yeah, a better way to put it is that I think there’ll be a few guys with faster three cone times than Harry, but not many.  Based on tape, you’d think Isabella would be one of them.  Can’t wait to see his measurables.

Yeah not saying he can't carve out a role - and maybe he plays faster in pads - but man I wished he caught the football more and the weaker competition really makes it hard to analyze his college film.

His pass catching drills at the combine and workouts will make or break him. Despite being negative on him, I secretly was pulling for him to shock me with a 4.45 because he’s so fun to watch.
