2020-21 NBA *Playoffs* Thread: Bucks are the champs and you can take that to the bank bromigos (4 Viewers)

I've been looking for it for about 30 minutes now, but I cannot find a clip of a defensive play Holiday made in the second half.

Basically, he was on Booker and the ball was on the right wing while Book was out in deep 3 range just left of the top of the key.  I thought Holiday was way too far off of Booker, and then the ball was passed to him.

Suddenly Jrue jumped out and was on Booker as soon as he caught it...which I thought was an impressive recovery considering how far off he was.  Booker recognized Holiday's hard close out and immediately went to drive to his right.  In my mind I thought he had him beat and was going to get in the paint easily.

But somehow Holiday not only recovered again, but actually jumped out and beat Booker to the spot.  This surprised him and he had pushed his dribble out expecting an easier drive.  Then, not only did Holiday stop him, but with his left hand he poked the ball out loose and then ran out and stole the freaking ball.

They showed the replay and Van Gundy said you can't teach that kind of defense because no one else can do what he just did.  It was seriously one of the most unbelievable defensive plays I've ever seen.  His speed to close out, stop, jump left and then steal the ball looked impossible in real time speed.  It was amazing.

I can't find it anywhere and it wasn't even among the full game highlights I found.

ETA: I finally found it!

Man, Chris Paul is such a baby. I get that nobody likes to lose but you're the President of the Players association for Pete's sake.  Be a man and shake a few hands.

Not expecting him to make it a love fest, but just walking off like that is such a bush league move.

has Booker been on any media since the game? he shonuff looked like he expected some propahs from his opponents and i cant say i blame him. Giannis is a sweet kid and i'm happy for him but that, goofin on the phone while his coach was taking his lap and his weak acknowledgement of his teammates' part in the victory troubles me slightly.

I want to start by saying I am not a Chris Paul fan, but he (and other players) can't win in this situation.

If the shake hands, bro hug, maybe say something then there is a group of fans that go off. I miss the 80's and 90's where players hated each other and rivalries were real, look at them talking. Probably planning the next super team.

If he walks off the court after losing. It is look how butt hurt he is, no class, it is just a game.

I also want to be very clear that I dislike Paul, like if the Pistons signed him this off-season for whatever reason it would test my love for the team.

He shook a few hands (Middleton, Holiday, Bud) when Giannis was at the line shooting that last set of free throws.

I think the NBA needs to codify the post-series handshake similar to what they do in the NHL. Right now you kind of have to interrupt the other team's celebration to get in there and it's awkward.

didnt think it was a shot - maybe i shoulda waited a day or two, but i coulda used more respect & sportsmanship w the enthusiasm

i dont get how anything anteater said was unsportsmanlike or disrespetful brohan i think he was exuberant talked about how he loved people and talked about how he wanted to serve as a good role model for kids all across the world man if what he did after the game is bad then i dont know if anyone is truly good that is all i am saying take that to the bank bromigos

Jomboy linked a FB post from Crow Bar and Grill where they advertising a promotion for yesterday in which everyone got a free shot for every Giannis FT made.
Even on a bad night that's going to be like 5-8 shots.

I don’t understand why there is always something people have to find to be aggrieved about. Just enjoy the games and realize the younger generation may not do things the way they were done 40 years ago.

yeah, i dont want to belabor it because, even if you're right, if you've upset SWC, you probably done sumn wrong.

if one looks, my response to Giannis's celebration was a question. while CP3 moped out of the arena, Devin Booker seemed to be looking around on the court with confused upset. i therefore asked if he had commented since then as to whether he got "good games" and such from his conquerors. Giannis's lack of attention to the formal presentation also gave me pause, but i probably should have deferred to at least a full day's uninterrupted celebration before making these points. Giannis didnt do anything bad - he just didnt do everything the way i like to see things done.

Giannis was FaceTiming with his brother, his teammate and closest friend in the world who was quarantined due to Covid contact tracing. People really need to get off his ####### back.

Man, what a night. And what a game by Giannis. Dude literally willed them to victory. Loved watching him getting all emotional, and as a new dad myself, loved that he was able to share the moment with his little boy. My only regret is that I’m gonna be out of town on Thursday and won’t be able to take my 7-month-old baby girl to the parade.

Can’t wait until next season so we can run it back. Bucks in MFing six!!

My son and his buddies had a blast at the outdoor watch party and made it home safely about 11 or so.  The crowd shots were incredible.  I wonder what precedent there is in this country for crowds this large gathered to watch a live sports event on large screens.

I rode my bike past the Deer District going home from work about 6:30 and the pot smell was strong - it was like a 3 block square that smelled like one big Phish concert.  My son confirmed - it was like that the whole night.  I wanted something more laid back, so watched at a neighbor's outdoor screen.

City is estimating well over 100,000 fans if you include Water Street and other immediate surrounding areas of the Deer District.. My guess is people are already staking out their areas in the Deer District for Thursdays celebration ceremony.

Pretty awesome that the draft is right around the corner.
I saw Franz Wagner walking around in person yesterday.  He doesn't exactly have an intimidating presence or look like an imposing physical specimen.  Based on my eye test (and watching 0 college basketball games this year), I'm not sure I'm excited about all the mocks sending him to the Kings.

I have some bad news about my upcoming mock draft… :oldunsure:

I love how now people are plastering Giannis every where in the media. If the Bucks don't win and some other new team wins next year the media will probably be blasting Giannis for not winning and riding the coattails of whoever is the sexy name next season.

I always liked Giannis. When my buddy and I would do fantasy drafts and pick 8 or so teams a piece and play an NBA2k season I always made sure The Greek Freak was on at least one of my teams.

I'm glad he's finally getting the recognition he deserves and major props showing you can win without building a super team filled with "your BFFs" but unless you were believing in this guy day one stop acting like you've been his biggest fan since he came in the league. Gonna be interesting seeing all the bandwagon Giannias Bucks jersey's around now though.

The Bandwagon NBA fans are so confused what they should do right now as well

Also I refused to watch the Finals after the way ESPN handed the Nichols/Taylor situation. Im not a big Jason Whitlock fan and he race baits a lot but his tweet when the recording leaks came out I think is spot on. Taylor was in a contract dispute with ESPN. There's reports that she asked for Stephan A Smith type money (Rumor is he makes over $8M Per year) and she's not worth that type of money. In Fact I don't think she's really recognizable name wise. I might catch what she did at ESPN once in awhile but her name always escaped me. Whitlock's tweet went on to say the recording was probably leaked by Taylor's rep who got ahold of a copy to pressure ESPN to giving her what she wanted.

To ESPNs credit they didn't cave to her. However taking Nichols off air now and then putting her back on is not a good look for ESPN. Today CNN had a headline that was pretty misinformed read something like "Taylor's career at ESPN ends after finals do to Rachel Nichols Comments about her."

Uh no Taylor's contract was up after the finals and they didn't reach an agreement on continuing said partnership. Nichols didn't get Taylor let go

Maybe I’m allowing bias to influence my opinion since the Bulls traded their pick, but I’m not much of a fan of this draft after the first handful of picks.

3.  Jrue Holiday.  Between the 76ers and Pelilcans, it seemed like he as a guy who never had a fair chance.  He winds up with the Bucks and has an amazing finals on both ends of the court.
To me this is a bigger story than people are making it out to be and if they wouldn't have made that deal the Bucks don't win this series. By the end of the series Booker just stopped playing aggressive when he was being guarded by Holiday..... for good reason. Having a perimeter stopper is like having a shut down corner in the NFL. No matter who started to get hot for PHX they just put Holiday on that player and all the air went out of that player. Tucker plays hard but would have fouled out trying to guard Booker all series and Middleton wouldn't have been as effective on offense if he would have had to guard Booker all series. Even if Holiday didn't have a great offensive playoffs he was clutch when it counted against both PHX and Brooklyn.

It was a brave move by the front office and they could have just played the "we have made the playoffs and won this many regular season games" card with a 26yo Giannis. It's great to see a team go for broke with an aggressive move at the trade deadline and putting their team over the top for a playoff drive. This wasn't a case of Giannis getting together with two other HOF players before the season and deciding they were going to win the title and which city has the best restaurants and tax code to do it in. The MIL front office won the title with this trade. Not saying Holiday is a better player than Giannis is and has been for a few years now, but imo his unique skillset is what put them over the hump.

Maybe I'm in the minority but Nichols/Taylor/Whitlock could all mysteriously vanish on a boating trip and I wouldn't even notice.

It's kind of shocking to me ESPN pays any of these people anything. They could have highschool interns do that job. That's how ESPN got into trouble in the first place thinking fans care about any of these "personalities"(used very loosely) that swirl around the game.

I have a bit of a crush on Alperen Sengun, but for the most part I don't feel super confident about any prospect outside Cade/Green/Mobley/Suggs. Quite a bit of risk outside the top 4. Statistically, there are so many boom or bust guys that I bet one or two pan out and make this draft class look pretty good in hindsight though, assuming the top 4 are as good as people think.

like Sengun for Charlotte. i know what you mean about the middle guys. the "could be the next Kawhi" label was telling for a while but now they slap it on every wingspan who cant shoot

my sleeper is Ziaire Williams. watch very little college hoops but saw a coupla Stanford's late games. 6'10 with a handle, sign me up

  I'm really rooting for this pairing -- Charlotte is where I have him going in my mock. He probably won't solve their defensive woes but a LaMelo/Sengun duo could be really fun.

eventually, but all but supreme post men should learn their trade off the bench now. there's just too much getting rubbed off onto star ballhandlers now for any rook to learn anything but frustration as a starting center. Sabonis and Randle found their games that way, i was actually rooting the Pellies to do that w Zion. fughit the switches til you know where you are on the floor...

Fits well with my grand plan for Charlotte to sign Richaun Holmes next month after drafting Sengun.

Giannis has the highlight reel plays, but for me this play turned game 5 and the whole series.

How about that Ben Simmons guy?
all i know is that according to one guy he is a better shooter than anteaternintendo even though on the year anteater had a better two point shooting percentage a better three point percentage a better overall field goal percentage and a better free throw percentage but hey i guess philly gonna philly take that to the bank brohans

Whitlock works for FoxSports. He''s usually race baiting for the black community. So when he calls out someone in his own community I think people should pay attention a bit more. Either way it was more of ESPN's own doing here the whole thing

Rachel Nichols might be one of the popular people there right now mainstream wise with ESPN and does a lot of NBA stuff. Did some NFL stuff. She's pretty and a Ginger which helps too but she also knows her stuff and does well as a host.
