2020 College football thread - It's the offseason, yo. (6 Viewers)

Cristoball signed an extension/raise, so Ducks fans can settle in to great recruiting and spotty-at-best in-game coaching.
Goes for it on a crucial 4th and 2, converts.....and has literally NO IDEA what to do on 1st and 10, so burns a timeout.

Glad Ducks won, but I do appreciate Mario proving my point.

4-2 team heading to the Fiesta. 11-0 Coastal probably going to the Cure Bowl. Ungodly amounts of stupid.
The playoffs are mostly the same teams every year and the bowls are somehow even more pointless. They're just too many vested interests involved to have a real competition where teams like Cinci and Coastal get a chance. At least with the BCS some of these teams would get a marquee matchup/payday. Just a joke.

I never thought when the BCS went away that this could be worse, especially the playoff committee. It is, by a substantial margin imo.

I think it’s made worse by the fact the playoff games are almost never even good.

People must forget Kelly is the son of a Massachusetts politician - Do you really think ND would sit out?

He's painting the CFP committee into a corner - If ND wins and goes to the Rose Bowl they have this pressure to figure it out. If they lose close and don't make the top 4, it looks like retribution for these comments.

Dabo also agrees with Kelly by the way :

“I don’t think there’s any question that there’s plenty of venues if, for whatever reason, it doesn’t work. … There’s plenty of stadiums where you could have fans. You certainly can have families.”

“It makes no sense to me to put a bunch of kids on a plane and fly them all the way to California to play in an empty stadium,” Swinney added. “That makes zero sense.”

yeah i hate ND....but it's actually a good move by Kelly.  And Dabo is right as well

I wouldn’t dismiss what @Jayded says out of hand. As IIRC Stewart Mandel tweeted, the Rose Bowl has very little influence here. They are contracted with ESPN to provide a venue for playing on 1/1 at 5 PM eastern. That’s it.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: BREAKING: #Giants assistant Bret Bielema, the former #Wisconsin head coach, is expected to return to the Big Ten as the new #Illinois head coach, per sources. Bielema won 40 games in his last four seasons with the Badgers and won three B1G titles.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: Bielema's contract is for six years beginning with an annual salary of $4.2 million. He will begin his duties at Illinois immediately and will attend the game today's guest of AD Josh Whitman's when Illinois plays at Penn State.

Sheesh Northwestern’s players look like they should be writing about the game that the Ohio State players are about to play.
Both these games are kind of garbage - I expect 2 blowouts.  Zags-Hawkeyes until the ACCCG

ETA - I’m not giving ISU enough credit

Frustrating because this is probably the most well-rounded team of the Riley era, but they shat the bed against a terrible KState team early in the season with a young QB so they’re out of it. Over the next couple years OU will finally have the defense to go along with the rest of it.

Do I need to be rooting for Northwestern here or am I getting my hopes up for no reason? A&M is garbage, they can’t actually take them

Field's is a great athlete but man, zero pocket awareness. He'll need to greatly improve there if he wants to play at the next level.
It's been pretty apparent watching Ohio State this year that Fields holds on to the ball way, way too long.  First time, you think maybe the defensive coverage has him confused, it happens.  When it's like the 4th game in a row, it's a pattern of behavior.  Still a great player and can make all of the throws, but he's gotta be able to read defenses much quicker in the NFL.
