2020 (now 2021) Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Closing ceremonies 8/8 | USA finishes with most gold, silver, bronze AND overall medals (2 Viewers)

The celebration by the French mixed judo team after their gigantic upset of Japan for the gold medal is the best celebration I've seen so far.  Went back and watched it a couple more times!

Women’s beach volleyball USA vs Canada.  Huge point late in the deciding game and there’s a replay challenge on a serve that’s razor close to the back line.

The commentator, during the review, honest to God just said “it’s so quiet in here that you could literally hear a pin drop.”

Yep, not surprising as there are quite literally zero people in the stadium.   :lmao:

That play was bizarre though. US challenges the serve being called out....and win the challenge. Afaik, Canada then immediately re-challenged the exact same play...and it was called out, so the US loses the point. :loco:  I MUST have understood that wrong, because htf is that possible?

No chance I wouldn’t have gotten a red card there.  It’s was crazy close but I don’t see how they could say it was in on replay and then out on the same replay.

Like I said..has to be something else, because how in the muther duck does a VAR judge change their minds after already making the call?

I would have gone nuclear ballistic.

Jamaica women take gold, silver, bronze in 100m  in track. But they sure weren't very friendly to each other after the race.

I noticed that, too.  The silver and bronze barely acknowledged the woman who won.
Silver and bronze had some smiles for each other, but not so much for gold. I'd have figured they'd be excited for each other with the Jamaican sweep. Gotta be some back story there.

Rory Sabbatini is Slovakian now?

South African-born Slovakian patriot

In early 2019, Sabbatini changed his citizenship from South Africa to Slovakia, the home country of his wife and stepson. Sabbatini's wife's cousin is the vice president of the Slovak Golf Association. Initially, there was speculation that the move was made in order for Sabbatini to qualify for the 2020 Olympics, but he said it was to help grow the game in that country. The Olympics use the OWGR (Official World Golf Ranking) for qualification and the 201st-ranked Sabbatini would not have qualified for South Africa with ten others ahead of him. Sabbatini also has a UK passport and US citizenship.

Sounds completely altruistic

C.T. Pan of Chinese Taipei played with Rory S and carded a 63. Was solo 4th but Matsuyama just bogeyed and McIlroy birdied, so now a 3-way tie for the Bronze Medal

🇮🇪 🇯🇵  🇹🇼 *

* this flag is illegal at the Olympics but I couldn’t find the emoji for generic white 5-ring flag

Xander wide right on #14 into the woods, will take an unplayable penalty drop

he’s still in jail afte the drop, just trying to minimize damage

almost cetsinly will double bogey and lose the lead

Morikawa 🇺🇸 birdies #18 to make it a 4-way tie for Bronxe

the Open champ shot 63 today

Hidecki birdies the par 5 14th to  move into solo bronze position

Xander holes a 5 footer for a bogey 6, tied for the Gold medal with four gettable holes left (for these guys this is an easy vourss)

so that was banana ball right, drop into overhanging branches lie, punch across the fairway to left rough, hacked it to well short of the green, up n down for the 6

Schauffele overcooked his drive on 15 into the left rough, Matsuyami in the fairway. Xander with a nice recovery to 20’ right of pin, Hidecki spins it off the side, maybe 25’. blows his first putt 4’ by, lips out the par putt

🇸🇰 -17 (done)

🇺🇸 -17

🇯🇵 -15 (5-way tie)

par 3, driveable par 4, gettable par 4 remaining

now a 6-way tie for bronze

Xander with an indifferent approach to 30’ left & long, Hidecki stiffs it, about 8-9’ right of the pin

🇸🇰 -17

🇺🇸  -17 (2 holes to play)

🇹🇼 -15

🇺🇸  -15

🇨🇱  -15

🇮🇪 -15 (playing 18, putting for birdie)

🇯🇵 -15 (2 holes to play)

🇨🇴  -15 (1 hole left)

Colombian (Munoz) and McIlroy finish at -15 so that’s five in the clubhouse

Casey birdies 17, now a 7-way tie for Bronze

Xander with a drive into the front bunker, blast to 5’, just watched Hidecki miss on a similar line from 6’

DRAINS IT, leading by one with one to play

Casey 🇬🇧 drives into right fairway bunker

Schauffele 🇺🇸 with a banana ball right of the bunkers & the tree line

Matsuyami 🇯🇵 drives into right fairway bunker

Xander with no shot at the green, obstructed by trees (+ water in front)

Hodecki with a superb shot from the bunker, will have a good chance for birdie

Xander lays up - wedge n a putt for Gold or going to a playoff

Casey blows it 5-6’ by

the pressure on these guys

Hidecki with a putt for Bronze from maybe 7’

never touched the cup

While you may now be questioning doing golf play by play at 3am, just want you to know I appreciated it this am gb @BobbyLayne

I took a nap 10:30ish - 1am, picked the leaders back up around the 10th hole

totally worth it, was great theatre

I think the pressure of playing for your country is greater than major championships (& many players said so) - Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, & now the Olympics is just a whole other level of heat.
