2020 (now 2021) Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Closing ceremonies 8/8 | USA finishes with most gold, silver, bronze AND overall medals (1 Viewer)

If Lebron forgot how to shoot a basketball (which is what it sounds like Biles doing a 1.5 vs 2.5 twist in that vault is the equivalent of) in game 7 of the NBA finals and had as an option the 4th best player in the US ready to step into his spot in the lineup for the remainder of that game, I’d hope for the sake of the team that he’d pull himself.  🤷🏼‍♂️
Once?  No...Terrible analogy

Let's try to steer this one back over to the competition that are taking place. The Biles topic was important for lots of people for different reasons. We have a whole thread for that. Please be kind and cool in there.

Definite case in point.   Im just horribly disappointed in her.   I don't feel any American pride over this.
Your pride matters not in this equation nor does your disappointment. Read what her peers in her sport are saying or Olympic peers are saying. They have an actual understanding of what it meant, you have no understanding what it means.

Jordan Chiles!!! Who I felt got pretty ripped off yesterday on her floor exercise.  She looked great to me.
Agree with you for yesterday but I was referring to replacement for Simone in the all around competition tomorrow - Jade Carey.

Pride and disappointment are not opinions though.
Of course they are. Drop it and move on. But I'm most definitely not a fan of people trying to tell others their voices don't matter here and that's exactly how your post read. Please drop it and move on.

Watching some judo, first time in about a dozen matches I've seen someone score in regulation.  Every match before was 0-0 into "Golden Score" time.

Im a fan..My pride does matter.  This is the Olympics, if American pride doesn;t matter here, then it doesn;t matter anywhere.

Back on topic....kinda.

Looking forward to the track and field events.   Watched the 1500M women's double skull(I think that's how you spell it).

Unfortunately, the US finished 5th out of 6 (Canada last) so that was a bummer.

is that the one where everyone is wearing a giant smoking robe?  they grab the other robe and pull and push for 15 minutes until i turn off?

I did the same with the underwater replays. Absolutely amazing. I did notice it live that he looked like a beast after the turn. He just seemed like he was ripping up the water with each stroke.

You saw much more (and earlier) than these announcers did.

They were definitely arriving late to a huge comeback Gold Medal finish.

I thought the same thing on second or third watch.  They were still talking only about the others, and in fact marveling over a different "comeback," until about 20 meters left to go.

Dressel dropping an OR in the 100…dude is impressive and I appreciate the tat sleeve making him easy to recognize in the pool.

Pretty sure the first 25 meters of the backstroke would be a near-death experience for me.
The calling for an average person to do the event right before the Olympians compete so we can appreciate how difficult the events are would certainly apply here.

Longtime swim/Olympics fans… I might be imagining this, don’t know the right terms to search for it on YouTube or Wikipedia… was there once an Olympic swimmer who figured out a backstroke loophole and did the entire first lap underwater?  Launched off the blocks, did that dolphin-on-back thing down to the bottom of the pool and just kept going?  I can’t figure out how to confirm/refute this, and it’s bugging me.

I don't know about the entire length but I do think this was a fad several olympics ago to stay under water as long as possible.

Maybe this

Every 4 years I forget that Olympic golf is a thing. Unbelievable to me they are ending the 50km walk in the Olympics but still doing golf. They should make the golfers walk 31 miles before they start.
