3rd Team - KAT, CP3, Trae, DeRozan & Butler

Shams reporting that Nick Nurse will be a top target for the Lakers. Why on earth would anyone leave one of the best organizations in basketball to try and fix...all that?

Yeah, I'd think that would be a regrettable move.  Nurse is one of the top tier guys for sure and you can't blame LA for shooting that shot but it just doesn't make much sense for Nurse to move from a stable situation to such a volatile one unless he has a big ego or desire to go "Hollywood". But I just don't see him as that kind of guy.

I mean,  I am no Laker fan, but are we comparing working in Los Angeles with Toronto and saying you would rather be in Canada?

Also playing assistant coach to LeBron.

Get none of the credit if they win, or credit as Bron's lackey coach. All of the blame if they fail.

I cannot believe Morey made it like some coup that they were able to keep Thybulle, knowing he wasn't fully vaxxed.  If they could have traded him and maybe a pick and still kept Curry and Drummond, they really messed up.

And he'll probably overpay Harden to keep him since Harden is friends with Micheal Rubin. Morey though dug himself in a corner when he said he'd only trade Simmons for another all star instead of doing the best deal that helps the Sixers as a whole without taking other pieces away. I know it wouldn't have been what fans wanted in the end but it'd have been a better move especially if they could keep Curry and Drummond. Sixers will probably have a first round exit. Doc probably leaves for LA but the Sixers replace him with clown Mike DAntoni, Overpay for Harden, and try to make a desperate trade of Tobias. Only for them to Rinse and repeat. Morey is about to get desperate and I think he could be gone by the end of next year. Just a lot of poor decisions by 76ers GM's in the personal department in recent yrs.

I've never been a huge LeBron fan...with all the other extra stuff aside....for me the core of it is more about I just don't think he has ever been a really good teammate....unless it's convenient for him...and he knows the cameras are going to pan toward him on the bench or something....and I think that is what really bothers me the most....

things like leaving the bench early when his team is still playing to get a 8 minute "head start" on "treatment"....and most recently last night.....he doesn't travel with HIS team to Denver for the final game of the season to support HIS team and the guys out there cleaning up HIS mess...his excuse?....he had another MRI scheduled that morning on his ankle....oh...cool...how convenient....why don't you just come out and say your team is not worth your time to travel and be there to support them in the LAST game of the season....I'm sure you had better things to do last night, so nice excuse....you knew you were out of the playoffs....I think your freaking "additional" MRI could wait a day....you have the whole off season to take care of your freaking ankle....oh wait, that's just LeBron getting a "head start" on his treatment again....my bad

The other thing is he plays both sides on Issues. For example the pandemic post a meme how Covid is just the Flu then the past year how everyone should be vaccinated. The dude looks like an idiot on certain issues because of it. Just shut up if you don't know what you are talking about or afraid of upsetting both sides. It seems his opinion on issues is the same as his on court. Whatever is convenient for him at the time.

Thought there would be more traffic in here re: Vogel finding out he was fired at the post-game conference. BUSH LEAGUE

I feel bad for him.Kobe is rolling in his grave seeing what a laughing stock his once proud franchise wise and surprise the ring leader is Lebron James. People need to stop with the excuses for Lebron now honestly. He's the one who put the team together not Vogel. Now Russel Westbrook is throwing Vogel under the bus wondering why Vogel didn't like him? How much of an ego does this Lakers team have? A lot of " Look at me look at me!!!!!" guys and not enough "How can I help my team be better." Nothing but hired mercenaries but hey at least I can play with friends but really is everyone for themselves.

They did make the playoffs last season, but got bounced by the Jazz in 5.

If the work situation in LA is toxic Hell yeah I'm choosing Toronto. Plus Toronto is an awesome city to be in. Great people, great food, great history. I'd move there permenately if it wasn't for the fact it gets so cold there in the winter and I'd have to deal with Maple Leaf fans.

Plus Hollywood you deal with all the elite rich snobs who think they are entitled. I have friends who moved from Philly to LA. Both moved back home do to the people they dealt with on a daily bases. "Hollywood" LA isn't what it's cracked up to be unless you have a huge ego yourself.

They have to make me the highest paid coach in NBA history for me to even consider coaching that mess and I can't even guarantee Id say yes to that.

Metro LA is massive, only a small portion of the population is "Hollywood" or wannabe Hollywood. There are tons of ethnic enclaves and surrounding cities have their own culture. Don't believe everything you see on TV, kids.

Yea LA is awesome and beautiful. If I were nba coach rich either would be great. Maybe LA for the weather.

And SI is running a story that the Pacers are a likely trade partner with LA for Westbrook. Is this just the LA media throwing stuff out hoping it comes true. Lebron is a good player, but he is a cancer and the allure of playing with him is done. AD will never stay healthy. Who else does LA have? They have cap issues, coach issues and they don't a draft pick for the next ten years. Yet players are just clamoring to come play there?

So that trade speculation (I think it’s just speculation but I don’t subscribe to The Athletic for that article) would be Westbrook for Hield and Brogdan. Pacers get off long term money. That’s not a bad trade.

Lebron is a cancer now?

it's the Lakers, they are one of the pillar franchises of American sport. young, rich athletes want to be in LA for any number of reasons.

why do people act like if a team is bad one year they are sunk for decades. next year they could just as easily win 55 games. #### changes so quickly in sports anymore with free agency, guys wanting out of their deals, etc.

i'd hazard a guess and say they trade AD for picks and players. someone has to construct a better roster of role players and they'll be fine.

LeBron the player is not a cancer, but GM LeBron? Win at all costs and on his terms, but if he's wrong you're responsible. When the team lacks the means to get better he bolts and the team rebuilds.

This is not a new thing and part of the price of admission.

How does ANY sports fan not subscribe to The Athletic? I obviously already have it, but aren’t they running a promo right now where it’s like $1/month or something?  Eric Nehm wrote a piece yesterday on Jrue Holiday that’s worth the price of subscription all by itself!

ETA: I have some free-trial codes if anyone is interested.

My sports reading right now is limited to while sipping my morning coffee right now, the mid morning schmidt, disengagement during con calls, and while waiting to stop sweating post workout. These small windows only allow for headlines; not the in depth work provided by the athletic. Maybe that reality will change next year.

Anybody mention anything in here yet about Jrue Holiday playing for 8 seconds in the final regular season game to secure him a $306K contract bonus?

And that is how a franchise keeps a star player.

Aside from a certain Duke Blue Devil, the Bucks are really a collection of very likable players. Holiday is one of the best character guys in the NBA apparently. I think for multiple years he won the sportsmanship award. Basically hardly ever talks trash doesn't complain to the refs and is one of the best if not the best on ball defenders in the NBA while being a very efficient offensive PG. He is just a very enjoyable guy to root for alongside Giannis with his work ethic and desire to be great.

I was really rooting for them to win it all last year, and it's still super easy to root for them after Boston.

If you read 1 article per month, it’s still worth it.

There would certainly be a future first or two involved in that deal. I think LA has something like their '26 and '28 or '27 and '29 or something available after the draft.

This is true, but it isn't how I operate. When I get access to something I over consume it and it's at the expense of something else already in my routine. I know my weaknesses.

This is why I flatly said no when wordle entered my orbit in December. But, Mac - it's only 2 minutes out of your entire day! Well, yeah - but then they'll develop 15 other types of ___dle and because I have an addictive personality I'll need to do all of them - no matter how complicated those future iterations are. Next thing you know the first 2 hours of my day are spent on ___dle's and I'll wonder why I can't ever get anything accomplished.

Russell Westbrook will make $573,944.85 for each game of the next NBA season. If he's waived in order to stretch the cap impact of his last contract year, he will make $130K for each day of 2023 to wear clothes and look like sumn smells bad.

What does that have to do with the Jrue Holiday bonus?

My point was the Bucks organization/coach could've easily told Jrue that he wasn't playing in that final game and saved themselves that $306K.  They had every right to do that but that would've obviously made Jrue salty with the organization and his attitude going into the Playoffs.    They were "player friendly" and let him secure the bag by going through the motions to make him "technically" play on that game.   You can bet Jrue won't forget that and it also looks good to others considering playing in a smaller market like Milwaukee.

That's not anything in comparison to your Westbrook post.  That was just bad contract negotiating by the Lakers.

Just signed up.

I had a subscription a year or two ago during the NBA season, but cancelled it because I wasn't using it during the rest of the year.  Will probably drop after a couple of months here because the only sport where I care enough at this point in my life is the NBA.

Yeah, I mean, at $1/month it's a no-brainer.

This is the article that I was talking about earlier.  Literally one of the best and coolest pieces that I've ever read.

What you said earlier about the Bucks is spot-on.  Not only is Giannis one of the best basketball players that I've ever seen, but he's also one of the best humans.  You already mentioned Jrue, and Khris is another down-to-earth, family-oriented, homebody type.  Check out this interview with Jrue and Khris.  Then you have Brook, the big, Disney-loving goofball, and Bobby P., the self-proclaimed "underdog" and "people's champ."  With the possible exception of the aforementioned Dookie, there's legit not a bad apple in this bunch.

The athletic is the only sports website I read. I’d pay like 20 a month for it, but sure glad that I don’t have to.

until i just read it, i forgot that the Cavs have playoff specialist Rajon Rondo on the squad. wouldnt it be a joy if the best jackhole PG since Iverson sold out to shut down the worst jackhole PG since Iverson? be still my heart...

Confirmed ballots for season awards are trickling in: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KMzwRcilLDej0BWl7eYE_OYC9Tx9olI_Ptn-nHjKfpQ/htmlview?pru=AAABgEL_vM0*YM4KR3-uO-OfyoHcS7luSA#

Biggest surprise for me is probably ROY. Only 16% of ballots have been confirmed, but it looks like recency bias is biting Mobley in the ### -- a lot of love for Barnes right now. The Cavs have struggled lately, but looking at the season as a whole, Mobley has been one of the most impactful defensive rookies in recent memory. Barnes hasn't been near that level defensively, and their offensive numbers are extremely similar. I'd vote Mobley 1, Barnes 2, Cade 3.
