2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (2 Viewers)

So many Kobe interviews and snippets have made it around the internet since his death. I wish I saw them beforehand. Should have appreciated him more — regret all the hate I threw his way and grief I gave Jmon and TGunz over the years.
To be fair, Lakers fans are easy targets and Kobe had some hilarious stat lines after his big injuries. I agree though.

Boston deserves this L. Lost focus trying to go 3 for 3 with GS late. Dumb.

That is the NBA. The Celtics shoot about a 1 percent worse from 3 than the Warriors. They weren't bad shots they just missed them. You don't pass up good shots because you might not get a better one. You are using hindsight and arguing the results.

They allow almost every offensive players to use that off arm like that as long as they don't extend it, all the players use it and any contact is almost always a foul on the defense.
Horford didn’t initiate contact. If anything, it should have been a no call. If they are going to call a foul on the defender in those situations, there would be free throws on every shot in the paint. There literally is nothing the defender can do when the offensive player pushes off.

15 turnovers and 5 missed free throws didn’t help either.
The Warriors had 16 turnovers. And had a lower 3pt %. The Celtic trio was 24-60, and the team was outrebounded by double digits. The Celtics are hard to predict, game to game, just like in the Miami series.

I didn't say he initiated contact, but that play always goes the way of the offensive player. It is no different than when an offensive player backs someone down. They initiate the contact and still get the call. Tatum did it to Curry earlier in the game. I don't like it, but that is the way it is in the league.

He can establish LGP and jump vertically.

Having watched Green at MSU and now with Golden State.  Dray should thank his lucky stars he was drafted when GS was on the rise with great young players. Had Dray been drafted by a crappy team he would have been a nobody in the NBA.

I can say the same and completely disagree.

His defense was awesome, from like 2015 to 2020 he the best combo of on the ball defender and team defender in the NBA. He also had a stretch early in his career he was a mid 30's percent 3 point shooter.

If he wasn't drafted by the Warriors he probably isn't a lock for the HoF, but he still would have had a very good and long career.

This one falls on Udoka. They fell back on their old iso ways, almost pouting that Curry could be more bangin' than them. i had noticed that Tatum had lengthened his drive path - an old bad habit - in Gm 3 and worried that the Dubs could turn that into TOs in Gm 4. that didnt happen, but he played as badly as ive seen him in '22. not making excuses, but he aint right. was surprised coach couldnt get them off their childish tip. i'll go back to worrying against this whole every-other thing, i guess...

This has to be one of the most meh finals I’ve ever seen. Feels like a second-round matchup. Warriors have the worst roster minus their megastar since Lebron’s Cavs and the Celtics are just…ok? Hard to believe this is the Finals.

Curry is simply amazing though. He is a joy to watch.

Weird game last night. Neither team was really good at moving the ball and playmaking for teammates.  The team assist totals were low on both sides and basically even—22-20 in favor of Boston. However—what was surprising is that Golden State did win the points in the paint battle 38-32. No doubt Curry played great—but I personally felt like Wiggins was huge. Just felt like his presence was felt on the glass, the scoring column, and the defensive end.

On a separate note—seems like Tatum is pressing too hard to have a monstrous game—when he reality—he doesn’t have to be doing that. He just needs to guide his team to victory through making the right plays and shooting more efficiently.  The biggest advantage the Celtics have in this series is their size.  Just as the Grizzles gave the Warriors trouble with their two big lineup with Adams/Jackson Jr—the Celts have the ability to do so with Horford/Robert Williams.  Last night Williams and Horford took a total of 9 shots.  The Celtics basically played into the Warriors hands last night by abandoning their size advantage.

Celtics remind me of the 04 Pistons, but better offensively. Those Piston teams were also super inconsistent and would give games away consistently.

I think you are overly harsh on the Warriors. Wiggins, Poole are better than anything Lebron had in 18 or 07. Klay gets a pass, it is going to take more than a few months to come back from 2 years off with injuries. He shows flashes, but lacks consistency. He will never be Klay of 5 years ago, but I think he will be better next year. Green is terrible, Porter Jr. = Jeff Green, Looney = Thompson.

Well his skills seem to have eroded be it age or whatever, Green has more fouls than points this series and has trouble getting his shot off one on one.

Funny comment because I was looking through this page during last night's game. The range of Williams' blocking ability is such a weapon right now (loved when Curry got that basket off the window against him in the 1st Q last night though).

It's just a really good year for league wide parity as the Lakers, Nets, and Sixers could never really get their stars aligned. I honestly kinda expected the Warriors to just roll through the playoffs as Klay got going, but him and Draymond are just not the weapons they once were.

Curry averaging over 34 ppg in the finals is fun to watch though, I agree.

Wiggins PER was 15 this year which I believe is the line to be considered league average. Poole was 16.2. They’re fine, but not dynamic players. Green and Klay look horrid.

Marcus smart takes some really awful 3s. His shooting % on 3s off the dribble has to be sub-20%, but he keeps hoisting them up there, even when closely defended.

This.

He's by and large been garbage for the last couple years. He'll show up every now and then. They're likely stuck with him at this point unless they attach young player(s) they have in a deal.

They need to get him more on the shallow roll and make plays 4v3 getting downhill.  Just listened to his podcast (first time fwiw, he's pretty good) and he is taking the benching well.  Admits he's been playing like garbage and needs to get things turned around.

I heard Kerr, it is not really benching as his was putting Green in on D for Poole.  Just that Green looks cloddy and not helping on the offensive end.  I know Green has always been a role player but he just does not look athletic anymore even on D, most of his fouls are from being unable to control his body and just slamming into other players.

Totally agree. He looks horrible this series. If you read back a few pages I suggested that the Warriors should let him walk when his contract is up because he looks so bad and pissed off some Warrior fans.

Hopefully he isn't just giving everyone lip service. This is the summer he needs to do like Curry, Paul and others veterans and work on getting healthier and in better shape to extend his career.

And FFS work on his 3 point shot. He doesn't have to be the 4th splash brother, but can he hit 30 percent? He makes Westbrook look like a competent 3 point shooter.

I don't think you pissed anyone off.  People that follow GS know they aren't going to let him walk unless he wants out.

Agree with  working on his shot.  My son's shooting coach has been dying to work with him for years.

I would have agreed with you just a few days ago, but with how bad he's played this series really if Draymond doesn't come down to a "reasonable" price he may be gone when is contract expires.

Meyers did trade Igoudala in order to make the KD sign and trade.

Again, I think they keep Dray around to keep Curry happy, but Draymond will definitely need to be reasonable with his salary and eventual role.

I've really soured on Draymond since the year Curry broke his wrist. Draymond claims to be a leader, but instead of being a true leader he played like ### and got thrown out of games to get the night off since the team wasn't playing "meaningful games". Great leadership there. That year actually made me respect pre-Lakers Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul more because they bring intensity every night.

I always gave Dray the benefit of doubt since then, that he'd step it up when the games mattered, but this finals really just solidifies that he's completely lost faith in his ability to shoot the 3 and make free throws. This leads to telegraphed passes and DHOs. Usually every team has someone that the Warriors offense could pick on, but the Celtics defense is too good.

Honestly, Draymond is annoying to me as a Warriors fan, so I definitely understand all the hate he gets.

Yep.  This is a really good post.  Draymond definitely isn’t getting paid like this for his next contract.  He’s lost his legs.  Can’t get off the ground quickly anymore.   Can’t shoot.  Really struggled to box out Robert Williams.  It was embarrassing to see him try to take Horford to the hole.

I wonder if he's going to blame it on his back after all this. That's the one out Draymond has.

Which is dumb, because Draymond just needs to shoot 3 pointers all summer and become even a 30% 3 point shooter to become effective again.

I hate Draymond - easily one of my least favorite players in the league but I’ll give him credit.  He’s always been one to do the dirty work and doesn’t need to score.  I think he’ll give it everything he has these last 2-3 games and is ok with sitting if it helps the team.

He’s still a turd.

And let's face it, I am sure Steph and Klay love having a guy like him to do the dirty work, get rebounds and the grunt work on defense.  They have never needed much scoring out of him.  If Steph and Klay want to keep the guy around him, the Warriors will find a way to make it happen.  Big mistake though if they keep him and keep giving him the same minutes.  The greatness of Curry might get them a championship here in the next two months (I assume Games 5, 6 and 7 are spread over over July and August given these long gaps between games), but Green is a liability as a starter now.

Well it's getting rave reviews everywhere, so you're in the minority but you're entitled to your opinion.
yeah, it feels like one of those things that gets early hype and people want to tag along for the ride. the more i hear people talking about it the better the movie gets.

the acting is incredible!

what a heartwarming story!

Hernangomez is a born star!

this is Sandler's best movie ever!

Ant is impressive in it.

Sandler is so much better in dramatic roles than comedy.

And all the cameos from all the NBA players/personalities is cool to see.

But I expected the hate for it since it features the Sixers 😛

Not a Sandler fan and keep just moving past the preview, but after watching the full preview decided to watch the movie. Was better then I expected.
