*** 2021/22 Stanley Cup NHL Thread **** Congrats 2022 Avs Cup Champs! (1 Viewer)

The Blues are a mess defensively, but they sure can score goals.  That is nice and fun in the regular season, but that won't fly in the playoffs when things tighten up a bit.  Hard to see them winning more than a round at this point unless they get a lot better defensively in front of whatever goalie is playing.

not a lot of good defense being played these days. goal scoring is through the roof.

Ducks need to add a heavyweight to protect the kids?
Maybe. They have Carrick, who leads the team in fights and actually does well in them.

While there were many very irritating things about that night, for me the worst was Carrick being in the box when zegras got cross checked in the head from behind.

90 seconds earlier Carcone skated up to Carrick from behind and cross checked Carrick in the head from behind. None of the refs saw it.  Carrick gets up and rips the guys helmet off his head and gets a penalty for that.

That also should have been reviewed by NHL as it was a clear head shot.

Then ####### Beagle gets no review from his head shot.

But Ritchie gets one game for slashing shattenkirk on a play I don't even remember and I watched the entire game.

The fact that both those head shots were not reviewed is insane.  Terry has already missed two games and they have no idea when he's coming back because thr swelling hasn't gone down enough.

True, but it is inevitable that things will tighten up a bit in the playoffs.  And even though I think the Avs are paper champions until they demonstrate otherwise in the postseason, the Blues have little to no chance of beating them 4 out of 7 with their defense this leaky, and they will almost certainly need to do that to get to the 3rd round.

I think the Bolts are out of gas. Maybe the playoffs will energize them but they look so tired right now.
They had a losing streak about this time last season, and recovered. Until they get eliminated from Cup contention, they will be a threat.

I don’t think you need to worry about the Avs bud

WASH at FLA
TB at CAR
BOS at TOR
PITT at NYR

VEG at COL
NASH at CAL
STL at MINN
EDM at LA
So, the Rangers are now 2 points behind Carolina, albeit Hurricanes have a game in hand, but the Rangers have 2 home games left against Carolina.  Rangers also have a favorable schedule coming down the stretch with 8 home games remaining and just 3 road games (only 1 game vs a playoff team away (Bruins))

So, the question begs, would the Rangers rather face the Penguins in the 1st round or the Lightning?  It's an interesting situation and obviously only fans think about this while the teams go out and play, but I think I'd rather avoid TB for as long as possible

Out west, man that Vegas/Colorado round 1 matchup is a doozy.  Those are 2 of my top 5 teams playing in the 1st round.  Edmonton getting hot here should be good for the league as well.

Didn't watch the game, but Maple Leafs meltdown must have been something to behold.

Oh, and I'm sure not many saw it, but Schneider absolutely destroyed 2 Devils last night, first on a hit, and immediately after one of them decided to pick a fight with him and well, it did not go so well.  When the Rangers drafted this guy all that was talked about was his grit and mean streak.  Took him 40 games or so to final uncork it.

Was pretty funny seeing leafs fans on Twitter crowing after smoking the Bolts on Monday and then melting down after that big blown lead last night.

Vegas currently has 82 points in 71 GP

teams they have to catch:

EDM: 87 points in 71GP
LAK: 86 points in 72GP
NSH: 84 points in 69GP
DAL: 83 points in 69GP

Kings seem to be the most vulnerable

Shhhh!   I am hoping nobody notices and they sneak in.  Playoffs this year is a bit unexpected especially with the rash of injuries over the last month or so.  They are treading water but still gutting it out.  I think (hope) they can hold on.  Go Kings Go!

The Sabres will honor Rick Jeanerette tonight by hanging his banner in the rafters alongside all the Sabres greats.

A fitting tribute to the iconic announcer.   Thanks for the memories!

Playing street hockey in the late 70's early 80's we were all Rick Jeanerette when we scored. Never got old! Loved his passion. So many nights with my radio under my pillow listening to him when I was supposed to be asleep, especially loved west coast games.  Thanks for the memories RJ!

What's with ESPN+?

Can't they make games easier to find? I watched the first period of the Rangers/Pens game, went out to eat and can't find the game anywhere, even on Hulu. Of course, checking youtube.tv ruined the score for me..

MLB.TV always brings me right to the Met game but all season long i have to hunt for Ranger games. Tonight's game is no where to be found, not even in their On Demand section. Is it because it was a Hockey Night special?

Lot of dumb takes on here on the Leafs losing the second game of a back to back through Tampa/Florida in a week where they had already dismantled each of Boston/Florida/Tampa.

On a side note it's pretty good having the best player in the NHL on your team. 49 goals in the last 49 games, not too bad!

Remember that series against Montreal last year though? Did Marner need more naps?

Good Frozen Four action last night. I was disappointed by Michigan, based on what I've seen of them on TV this year, but hardly the first time I've seen a team stacked with high-end prospects spit the bit at this time of year (or earlier). You just never know where top draft picks' heads are, and who might be whispering in their ears.

Conversely, definitely on the Moo State bandwagon. Just one NHL pick (Nathan Smith, who is now Yotes property after the deadline trade), but just a great team structure and buy-in, if you can even get the puck anywhere near their Hobey finalist Dryden McKay. (And it took an awful giveaway and a 2-on-0 to get even one by him).

More importantly, it was great to see the Garden banged out and about 80 percent out-of-town fans, in my estimation. Definitely a down year for the east this year - UMass and Quinnipiac were the two best teams, and UMass got worked pretty good by both Michigan and Moo State during the regular season. (UMass and the Gophers were pretty even, to my admittedly biased eyes.)

Whatever happened to @ffldrew ... the Pioneers fan I met in Buffalo three years ago? If you're still here, come find me in Boston tomorrow.

was hoping to see Power/Portillo take on Johnson/Huglen in the final. Now the Sabres have to get some of these guys signed.
