2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (4 Viewers)

Props to this new training staff who immediately ran on the field to bring Tyrod into concussion protocol.

I could be wrong, but I don't see the previous yokels doing that.

Ducasse called for a false start and then got BLOWN UP leading to Peterman getting hit immediately and almost being intercepted. This offense is going to be beyond brutal.

And Tyrod was just plane awful before getting concussed. Just dreadful. The O-line is bad, but he looked totally rattled from the very first snap.

Starting to think that trading players for draft picks wasn't such a bad idea....
Might as well clean house. This is straight nonsense. The lack of talent is obvious, but all the penalties on top of that is just inexcusable.

You think McDermott curses himself at night for taking this job?

Ignoring that fumble, this Brandon Reilly guy looks really good. Good hands from what I've seen this week and highlights from last week.

Had never heard of him and don't know a thing about him, which is odd since I usually have a good grasp of all the UDFA's because of fantasy football. He have any chance to stick?

That's BS in terms of the continuously bad decisions made by the Pegulas.  Think about where we'd be if Anthony Lynn if he were the HC (which made the most sense).  We would have  Tyrod and a #1 WR for the whole season - we would be able to give Tyrod a fair evaluation.  We would have had a better defense by default (compared to the Ryan years) and we would reasonably contended for 9-10 wins - a playoff contender.

I don't think on the 53. Maybe a practice squad guy.

Ragland to KC for a 2019 4th.

Getting rid of everything Whaley has done.

I'm fine with trading him.  Maybe play him more than three snaps and maybe get a conditional third out of it who knows.

Interesting this guy from DraftTek said Pegula Jet is en-route to Phoenix 3 hours ago, but said it stopped in KC. Then we traded Ragland a couple hours later.

What's in Phoenix???

Do the Cardinals need a large pot smoking interior D-Lineman?

Such a shame... Obviously the injury plays a part, but to only get a distant 4th round pick for a guy that was just drafted high in the second round.

I think the only reason it's distant is because how many picks we have next year, staggering the contracts a bit.   Why not play him more than three snaps and maybe get a conditional third. Some are saying he likely would have been cut, so to get anything is a win. Well by some I mean Sal who loves every move all the time.  Who says the Bills don't have cheerleaders, him and Murph have been leaders in that department.

If someone takes on Dareus contract then yes, it's a culture change and tank.

This is going to be a really long season, but there's something surprisingly refreshing about the team announcing right up front that this season is a lost cause.

That said, these are the Bills we're talking about.  They'll #### up the tank, most likely by beating New England's backups in week 17.  Calling it now.

This article encourages me somewhat. I feel like McDermott and Beane are hitting the right spot for insisting that guys buy in and do things right while still being guys the players who buy in respect and like. They avoid being the dictators while still making it clear guys are expected to take their jobs seriously and earn their paychecks.

After reading it, it wouldn't be a total surprise to me if they ultimately cut or trade Dareus. The guy has never shown true commitment to football and certainly is living up to his contract.

Pretty sure Dareus's huge cap hit is b/c salary is guaranteed... If you can trade him then you greatly reduce the hit.  That LaCanfora article was pretty damning for him though

Because I'm bored... The Bills jet was still in Phoenix yesterday according to a pretty reliable guy from "The Twitter"  Some Cardinals beat reporters are saying JJ Nelson may be on the trade block.  He'd be a deep threat fit.  The next couple days will consist of teams calling each other's bluff whether or not they will cut them.

Some Bills thoughts at midnight on a Saturday night:

- there shouldn't be an issue with Dareus "buying in" to this team.  Call me crazy, but he may be the single best player on this team.  There's a reason that he's paid like he is.....because he's a ####### fantastic player.  The coaching staff needs to make him buy in.  Full stop.

- surprised Brandon Reilly was cut.  Also surprised that Taiwan Jones made the team.  Must be a special teams thing?

- first glance at this final roster is cringe-worthy at LB and DB.  Just across-the-board not very good.  Lorenzo Alexander, Preston Brown, Tre White, Micah Hyde, fine.  The rest?  Question marks across the board.  Maybe they'll be great.  Probably not though.

- what has Philly Brown done to make this team?  I don't think I've seen him do a single thing this preseason.

- all 7 of the "3rd round compensatory" players made the team

- really don't mind the Ragland trade.  If you're not gonna use him or you're worried about the knee, trade him.  Sucks that they used a 2nd on him but that's a sunk cost, have to filter it out.  It is what it is.

- I don't really hope they lose week 1 to the Jets, but if they do, you better believe I'll be looking for cheap secondhand tickets early that next week for the October games

I can't remember being this pessimistic going into season in probably 10 years at least.  On paper McDermott and Beane seem more than qualified for their positions, but one move after another leaves me scratching my head as to why they'd rather seemingly ship quality talent out the door for cents on the dollar because of scheme misalignments rather than trying to coach and maximize what they have.    It's tough for me to think of a great coaching staff in the NFL that was this dogmatic.  It was always seemed that the great coaches may have had a philosophy, but they were also smart enough to learn how to adjust to who they were working with.  This current operation reeks of inexperience.

If I am forced to eat my words here, I'll be the happiest guy around.  Decades of futility, however, leave me skeptical.

I hope this team goes 3-13. At least... Lose to the Jets week 1. Keep it going. I don't want 6-10 to 8-8. Stockpile those picks.

A new day and another step backward.  Jonathan Williams kicked out the door for Mike Tolbert and Taiwan Jones.

Again, we had a 7-9 football team last year that featured an incredibly efficient offense and only missed the playoffs due to some really bad defensive coaching.  We had the opportunity to bring back most of the key talent from that team with same coaching on the offensive side of the ball (keeping Anthony Lynne as head coach) and almost certain improvement with a new coaching staff on defense (anyone would have been better than the Ryans).  Playoff contention was a very real possibility under those terms.

Instead, we blow it all up for a first year coach and a first year GM who have somehow pushed most of that remaining talent out the door for pennies on the dollar.  The only thing we hear back is "trust the process."

I like to imagine that the Bills GM is actually the super smart Billy Beane and things work out. But not the actually Billy Beane, the one from Moneyball. That handsome devil Brad Pitt leading the Bills to the playoffs. Yes, shall be glorious watching our boy Brad hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

They key question is becoming why even watch this mess?
After the Watkins trade, I was ready to sign off for good.  (Heck, the Chargers just moved their HQ to my town and even have our old OC as the new head coach.)  I talked myself back into it with the hope that somehow this staff and front office knew what they were doing and would be able to put something together in the 2018 draft... one more year I told myself.  Since then, it's been one dumb move after another.

I get that you want to put your own players on the roster, but that shouldn't come at the expense of getting rid of better talent and trying to be as competitive as you can be now (which could have been playoff caliber).

As I mentioned above, if they end up winning the Super Bowl in the next year or two, I'll be happy to admit I'm wrong.  But every move they've made makes that appear less and less likely.

You're right, should have stuck with what got them nowhere the previous several years. :lmao:  at the notion that they were playoff contenders, just stop with that.
