If you don’t like Bama at 2, which I get — they haven’t looked good really, then who? 
 

Cincy? I’d like to see them make it but nobody honestly believes they are the second best team in America. I legit hope they make it though. 
 

Oregon? Sure they beat Ohio but lost to a horrid Stanford team and have struggled to put a bunch of mediocre Pac teams away. 
 

Ohio? They lost to Oregon so they’re out of 2 for now. What have they done? If they were called Minnesota instead of Ohio State would we have them at 2 with that resume? 
 

Oklahoma? They haven’t beaten anybody. New QB looks good. This shouldn’t be a factor but I’m tired of seeing them get drilled in the playoff. I guess they should be closer to the playoff then 8 though. 
 

Michigan State? Please. Michigan? Maybe if they win out. It’s just an ugly ugly year. It happens.

By all indications, he was a good guy and the players liked him. But he was completely over his head, even at one of the worst jobs in FBS.

Case in point: yesterday’s game (loss to FCS Rhode Island on Homecoming, the final straw), UMass scores to cut it to 21-16 just before the half. He calls an onside kick, which they somehow recovered - refs originally gave Rhody the ball on an illegal touch, but it was overturned on review.

And then? … Of course, draw play to run out the clock. 🤦‍♂️

Alums want to try to get Don Brown back from Arizona for one final run, or maybe pie-in-the-sky somehow lure Kentucky OC Liam Coen back (best QB in program history). He should have been the coach-in-training, but Whipple had too much of an ego to give Coen any playcalling responsibility and he ended up leaving.

Regardless, they need to nail this next hire, whoever it ends up being.

 
worst part is gonna be when Bama beats UGA in SEC champ on a controversial call at end of regulation.

hey, it's the only way the SEC can guarantee 2 teams get the big $$$$.

With the SEC bias Alabama might get in with 2 losses.

When it's all said and done, the 4 playoff teams will be:

  1. Georgia
  2. Oklahoma
  3. Ohio State
  4. Cincy
Alabama will not get in with 2 losses.  The second loss may be to Auburn preventing a Georgia beatdown.  Georgia a clear number 1.  I don't think Oklahoma will lose although they have 3 good opponents coming up, plus a championship game.  Ohio State as usual the class of the Big 10.  Cincy should beat the weak teams they have left.  Obviously if Oregon goes undefeated the rest of the way they are in over Cincy, but I just don't get the feeling they will.  With such a crazy season I don't think the Committee leaves out an undefeated Cincy.

I agree that Oregon could very likely lose another game but so could Oklahoma.  Cincy could lose to SMU or Houston.

 
UGA is so far and away the best team, it's going to be great when they lose in the semi-finals in some absurd "Kirby gets too cute and calls a fake punt on 4th & 11" scenario.

Yea if he just plays it straight I don’t think that defense can be beaten over a full game. Seems like there is no way the 4 seed could even be competitive. I guess Bama could give them a game if they make the final. 

 
I get why Bama would be #2 if the goal of the committee is to get "the best 4 teams" because I feel like they probably are second best right now in spite of their loss at A&M.

The biggest problem I have is how much we should be factoring in that A&M loss. Cincinnati has earned the right to be #2 based on being both undefeated and beating the top teams on their schedule (and, I know different team, how they looked in their bowl against Georgia last year).

I understand a strong desire to get the perceptive top 4 teams, but with the eye of that test leaning so heavy to the SEC, it's as if they get far too many asterisks beyond the other leagues. By the end of most years, there really are at best 2 teams that "deserve" to be there and then a bunch of debate about the remaining 3-4 teams. I'd be in favor of leaning more to the earned side to let some fresh blood into the equation over the eye test to see if we get some better games and interest.

This goes to the question as to who does the conference championship game serve?  If you want to be a national champion and feel you are qualified for that title without playing in one, it's certainly not you.

Ohio State as a 4 seed would be interesting against Georgia

 
I hated the BCS as much as anyone, but reality since the playoffs is most of the time it's been, at best, 2 teams that really should be playing for a title. Since that's the case, I'm surprised they don't just expand it some and let the little guys in. In the end, it almost never matters as the cream does rise it appears.

Honestly, I'm curious how much longer he lasts. The only reason I think he's still at ND is because of the AD. Most coaches have long burned out because of the pressure or the lack of AD support. Swarbrick is sheltering him from more criticism than many of his predecessors ever got from fans and the media.

I mean I can see 6 teams. Gives the 1/2 seeds a bye. 12 is just ridiculous to me. There’s no need for that and all it will ultimately do is give us the 9-3 SEC teams. People really think they are going to reward like, Boise State in that scenario? It’ll be the same committee.

I've always liked a scenario that produces a bye, especially if they are going to expand it. The regular season has to count for something. If you expand it too much, the Oregon/tOSU-like games annually are less attractive and less compelling because it won't matter if both can still easily make it.

Expansion to me should include both a bye and a path for non-P5 to gain a legit seat. Maybe something akin to the BCS-like rules where if a P5 conference champ wasn't high enough, they could forfeit their seat at the table to a G5 team.

 
UW fires offensive coordinator John Donovan after that dismal performance, but really, this was an awful awful hire to begin with.  Jimmy Lake and Dan Mullen are executing the deck hands they hired on boats they steered into icebergs as if this will stop their ships from sinking.

REC has told them to handle UT & OU with kid gloves for the time being.  

I believe @gump kept the minutes at the last meeting.  He should be able to fill in the details.

I'd settle for 8 - each Power 5 conference champ, 1 non-Power 5 conference champ and 2 wild cards

 
Nebraska fires 4 offensive assistants.  Frost will be back in 2022 with a restructured deal that I'm sure will include some incentives for like, um, winning games and going to a bowl.  Maybe a reduced buyout if he doesn't reach certain goals.   :shrug:

All kidding aside, I grew up watching tOSU Buckeyes, I loved Woody Hayes but I really wish he would have retired before going. . . well before going all Woody Hayes.  RIP Woody!

They ranked Michigan over Michigan State and they played like 10 days ago lol. This committee is insane how can anybody take this seriously
