2021 Dallas Cowboys - SIZZLER Open for a limited time. SF @ DAL (1 Viewer)

That's it.  I'm done.  I will no longer defend Dak.  He has all the qualities of a great QB EXCEPT accuracy.  Leadership skills are thru the roof.  No question concerning his athleticism. Decision skills are great.  However, he repeatedly throws the ball to where the receiver was, not where they will be when the ball arrives.

It is maddening.  

 
I had no illusions of a Championship - but they should beat SF at home. 

Lots of issues to deal with. Too many to list right now.

Ive been his biggest defender but he’s got next year for me. 

It seems teams have figured out ways to confuse him by dropping 7 into coverage. Which is when he/Cowboys should be running. They’re showing Blitz so he doesn’t change to a run. Then they play starts and they back into coverage and it’s crowded. Hard for anyone to throw against that many in the secondary.

He didn’t get a lot of hep today but he has to improve.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott disparaged fans for throwing bottles, debris at players. Then Prescott was told the fans were aiming for officiating crew. Prescott retracted. “A credit to them then.”

It's all good, SM. You can always be counted on as viewing the glass half full. I wish I had your optimism.

Why didn't they try to get Pollard more involved? With all the pressure the OL were under, seems like they could've tried some screen passes to him or something. 

 
No issue with gameplan or performance on plays on either side of the ball from me.

Except all the penalties. Most penalized team in the NFL this year. 14 penalties (and 2 more declined I think?) right in character. And basically every time I wanted to be annoyed and then was like "Yep, blatant x there". Just horrifyingly bad coaching all season on something that is completely within the team's control. I wish I could blame the officials but eww. Just embarrassing on most of them.

This is a good point. Take away half of those mental blunders and we win.

Thanks. I’ll be back next week but sadly think my time on this forum is coming to an end. There isn’t much Cowboys talk anymore. I’m just a bit rough around the edges.  I was raised in a bad neighborhood and by a WW2 veteran who spent 4 years in the pacific. I’m basically a neanderthal compared to most posters here.

Well, I for one hope you stick around. 

 
Gotta think this thing is done for the next 3-4 years.   Starts at the top.  Clearly.  Signing Zeke was a mistake, churn and burn RBs like water is the way.  Then Dak signing was probably too much, but rushing him back from a calf when the division was not seriously in doubt was what really hurt.   His mobility and accuracy at times were horrific post calf.  And it wasn't great to begin with after the ankle.  

Going to lose at least one, probably two coordinators and be left with a #### head coach that everyone hates and can't clock manage a game (Still) after a 100 years, and a stadium you can't catch a pass in at 4:30pm in January.  

 
-14 penalties, can only think of 1 that I would say was not deserved

-Diggs is going to get eaten up on double moves next year if he doesn't fix his play

-No running game

-McCarthy is clueless defending the QB draw

-CWilliams should be replaced

-Couldn't stop the run...again

Depressing

Would be nice to have more activity on the Cowboys thread, and i can understand feeling like a neanderthal on this board, lol.

 
I know game flow goes differently and all that, but the fact that they missed the opportunity at an end of half FG to then need only a end of game FG to go to OT because Jerry oriented the stadjum to stay on the I-30 axis is a-maZING.

Right before that they were on the 40 right before the Collins holding call.  

 
San Fran is built how I want the Cowboys built. Tough guys at DL, LB and OL.

Im not sold on Moore. Every team in the NFL runs crossing routes all day except for us. We are always getting too fancy.

The 9ers are too tough. Dallas is too soft. No one can stop SF running game. No one can stop SF defense. Dallas hasn’t beat anybody. Dak will choke under the pressure. His WRs are soft. Dallas can’t run the ball at all. Shanahan will out coach McCarthy easily. JimmyG is on fire.

So, final play of the game.  Dak starts his slide at the 26 or 25 & 1/2.  We know this because his knee starts kicking up those black pellets in the turf.  The side judges set their marking foot at the 25 &1/2.  You can see them do so. The Cowboys don't get the ball to the ump.  Instead, they spot it themselves two full yards ahead of the line of scrimmage.  They then wall off the ump from getting to the ball.  When he gets there he starts reaching the ball back towards the line of scrimmage.  He can't reach the ball back that far as the Cowboys are in the way.  The ump acquiesces to the Cowboys formation line up instead of backing them up.  He knows that backing them all up and trying to get them reset will force the clock to expire. He does so to give them some chance to get the ball spiked or the play off.  He should not have.  Imagine them getting a play off instead of spiking the ball. Imagine a throw to a W.R. who is stopped with the ball exactly breaking the plane of the goal line.  A 24  yard T.D. when there was a full 25 &1/2 yards to go if the ball was accurately spotted.  That ump actually tried to keep the game flow going, to help the Cowboys have a chance in spite of their foul up, and Dak and Mccarthy blame the refs and encourage the fans who threw garbage on them?  There should be substantial fines from the league to both.  Yes, they were in the throes of disappointment, but encouraging violence, though minor, against the officials when those officials came through with a re-spot of the Deebo run for them and then did not force the Cowboys to line up correctly taking time on the final play is disgraceful.

??  Did they interview fans and ask who they were throwing bottles at?  It was probably both.

it's funny, but i think i may be as much of a Dak supporter as yourself. Just like the guy a ton, and think his upside is better than most Cowboys' fans think. For me, i think the OL is the Cowpokes  :P  biggest area of concern. When Bosa went down things got easier for the Cowboys, but Dak still was under pressure way too much i think.

Biggest mystery i think with Dak is looking at his play before he was injured this year, and then when he came back he never seemed to get back to where he was earlier in the season. Factoring in that injury they discussed he had in the pre-season with his shoulder/back, i think Dak may have been effected a bit by some injury as the season went on. I know everyone in the NFL has to deal with being hurt, but it did seem to effect his accuracy i think

I should have listened. I thought Dallas would roll with their defense being decent and Dak playing better. Got sucker in on recency  bias of Dallas beating up on crappy division rivals. The thanksgiving game was a tell I shouldn’t have ignored.

yup, they were 6-5 outside of the division, not exactly impressive.

 
Jerry Jones ought to tamper with the Patriots.  He ought to give Belichick a blank check and an ownership portion of the team to come and coach.  This team, with Belichick, who I hate, would win it all, even if they had to give up multiple draft choices for the tampering.  They might win multiple titles in a row.

interesting. When I was watching yesterday and saw the sun shining on the field I was wondering if it would be in the wrs eyes. 

 
its not a new thing for Dallas, if anything they should know to avoid the middle of the field in that situation.

I think this is both true and untrue. Its true signing Zeke was a mistake, but that was because Zeke has always been grossly overrated. He peaked as a rookie, and has been downhill ever since. Their insistence on him ahead of Pollard probably cost them 1-2 games. Pollard is a far superior player, and has been for at least 2 seasons. Its always funny when they interview opposing HC's and the first guy they talk about being worried about is Pollard, and then he sees under 10 touches. 

I think signing RBs to a 2nd contract can work, but it has to be an elite player, and/or one who is a mismatch in the passing game, Zeke is neither of those things. 

I think Dak is taking too much blame. He's a top-10 QB, and while he didn't play well yesterday, its not like Garoppolo did either. The difference is Garoppolo got helped by his playcalling and his running game. I came out of that game thinking Dallas is a better team than SF. Dallas shot themselves in the chest in that game. Every possible thing pretty much went wrong, and it was still a 50-50 game. That to me means the difference was coaching. 

I have to think that game hurts both Moore and Quinn's HC candidacy. Dallas seemed unprepared on both sides of the ball.

They have blinds, and use them for college games and other events, but not Cowboys games because Jerry.

When they played the Rose Bowl there for covid the blinds helped.  It's the worst from December on after daylight savings swap.  In August it doesn't factor all that much but the end zone plays.  

People like to say that Jerry doesn't directly impact the on field performance, but he does.  

They deferred the coin toss.  Knowing this would start them backs into the sun for the 2H.  So yeah, it can cut both ways but it burned them and their retinas this time.

I just don't see 2nd contract RBs as having value.  There is the Travis Henry every so often, but those are rare. Really rare.  You take the coin flip you can RBBC it for half the money and spend the remainder on OL.

I assume you meant Derrick Henry. I think 2nd contract RBs have value, just preferably not for 10+ million. I think Austin Ekeler has been worth it. I believe Nick Chubb will be. In slightly further back history, I think LeSean McCoy, Adrian Peterson, and Marshawn Lynch were all worth it. 

Bit of a team building/philosophical take: I think QB is really the only position where truly great play really matters. Everywhere else, I kind of think its just about not having poor play. A team with an elite QB and no holes , will beat a team with a bunch of elite guys, and several holes. So in that respect, I agree OL>RB, but if both are at least average, I think having a better RB matters more, especially if they create big plays or are mismatches in the passing game.

It kind of goes back to my pre-season take: McCarthy sucks. It was a bad hire when we made it and it remains a bad hire today. We literally need a head coach to instill discipline, challenge the OC and DC so they get better, pressure test the game plan, and make 4th down/time management decisions. He pretty much sucked at all those things all year. 

Like the team would be better with me as a HC and keeping Moore and Quinn fully empowered. And I actually believe that. I've worked in sports (including football) at the highest level - I'm not some dummy on the street.
