2021 Las Vegas Raiders - PLAYOFFS!!!! (2 Viewers)

Gruden's explanation was that he uses the term 'rubber lips' to describe liars and this was him extending that odd practice to imply that Smith was a huge liar during the CBA negotiations. It comes across as 'racist/racial' but if he's being honest in his explanation, it wasn't. Dumb and weird, yes. Racial, no.

I'm sure there will be a witch-hunt investigation and if more instances of racial stuff come out, then I'll change my stance, but if this is his only racial comment in decades of coaching, then I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe his explanation.
I like to think that Gruden is not racist after working with and coaching so many men of color.  What do I know though?  I do know it was a very stupid thing for him to write in an email.   He is going to get disciplined.

We're going to miss Mullen. Hope he gets back soon.
for real.  dude was straight balling.  he will be missed big time.  these guys and incognito(probably) won't be back until after the bye week.  so week 9.  they will really need them for week 10 against the chiefs.

i hate that barber isn't being put on IR as well, from the standpoint of they don't need 5 rbs on the active roster.  we need every db and OL they can get.  it'll be interesting to see who gets called up from the PS for this game.

i doubt he's a racist.  however, he is an arrogant, irascible, irritable, oldish, rich, white guy.  in a position of absolute power.  hard not to be an ####### in that position.  his inability to be genuinely contrite, will probably add to his punishment.  deserved or not.

the whole thing is really dumb.

From an ESPN article:

The email came to light during the NFL's investigation of workplace misconduct with the Washington Football Team, as "the league was informed of the existence of emails that raised issues beyond the scope of that investigation," according to McCarthy. Senior league executives reviewed the content of more than 650,000 emails, including the one the Journal reported was written by Gruden to Bruce Allen, then the president of the Washington Football Team. The NFL then sent pertinent emails to the Raiders for review.

This also means that someone from the NFL probably leaked it to the Wall Street Journal.

Saw an interesting bit about how everything regarding the wft investigation is sealed.  But this email makes it to the press. Horse ####.

I absolutely believe Gruden's explanation.

It's plausible on every level. The guy has been coaching NFL players for decades, what's more plausible that he hates all black people or he thinks Demaurice Smith is a lying ####### and expressed that in a personal email to a friend who probably agreed?

This is a non-story.

Rationally this is a non-story but we don't live in rational times.

You will never convince me that Jaylon Smith wouldn't habe an immediate upgrade for this defense.

Chicago O-line opening up Lanes and RBs gashing the Raider d. How many 8-9 yard rushes so far? Not even halftime.

How.many 3rd down conversions?

The refs have killed the Raider d-line but it's no excuse to get manhandled by the Chicago O-line.

Gonna call this right now, even if the Raiders win today that 3-0 start was clearly a mirage.

This team won't compete as long as the coaching staff is filled with retread yes men. Even if they miraculously get to 4-1 they will be lucky to go 9-8

Mayock will get the axe next so Gruden will remain. But it is increasingly clear that Gruden is miscast as a head coach. He's an OC not a team builder.

Dude......no one is arguing this.

I mostly agree.

Eta:  I think Gruden isn’t  even an Good OC.

Been saying this for so long that I am tired of saying it.   I look forward to the day that the Raiders move on from Gruden.

I'm just here to say the thread title is totally Raiders.

Nice crib Raider (I don't want to say Nation because that doosh JT The Brick hi-jacked it) fans. It might not have the aura of many years of puke in the stands like in Oakland (at least yet), but you can always find that in an old casino in Vegas.

Don't forget the toilets overflowing (Oak), or Pittsburgh fans getting tossed off the mezzanine (LA)...or Charger fans getting stabbed at The Murph (home-away-from-home).

SNF JUST DISCUSSED GRUDEN. Tirico traveled for 7 years with JG and never saw anything racial or inappropriate. Dungy said it was immature and offensive, but over-- move on. Florio said JG was not working for NFL or Raiders at the time. They have no grounds for suspension.

I didn't watch the game today, but if I had to guess by the score what the main issue was, it has to be the Oline... Those who sat through this garbage, am I right?

yep.  o-line.  poor tackling.  penalties. bad play calling. drops/missed throws.

anyone else notice that carr* makes a lot of throws off his back foot?  i seem to see it more and more this year.  is because he has no time to throw it?  a lot of his throws, especially deep ones, are off his back foot.

*not a carr hater

I put this one as much, or more, on the d-line. To be fair the refs did them no favors early and I think that got into their heads. But the Bears LT is 157 years old & their RT went down in the 1st,  yet they were consistently gashed for 8+ yard carries and 3rd down conversions while getting limited pressure (or inconsistent may be more fair and Fields is mobile).

A better defensive coordinator should have been able to scheme into containing a rookie with a subpar O-line.

They were lucky to even have a chance at victory with 90 seconds left in the fourth.

I was there at the LA Masoleum when Marcus Allen fumbled in the end zone against the Pats in I think the AFCC game that should had been to go ahead score in a bitter loss. It was hell in the stands after that lulz.

Good times.

After watching the highlights, I saw a lot of this. They were gashed by a RB named Kahlil Herbert. Very fitting name for a player doing well against the Raiders btw... I've said it before, no matter who's coaching, playing or running this cluster of an organization, they have a habit of making backups look like HOFers.

This offense should never only score 9 pts. Proof right before our eyes, when you don't have an Oline, you can't do squat on offense. I understand cutting Trent Brown loose, but to trade your center and starting guard in the same off season and hoping your backups are good enough was a bad idea. Losing Good and Incognito right off the bat was out of their control, I understand that. But leaving the interior Oline so thin and banking on a 38 year old with an Achilles issue was a gamble that didn't pay off.

Agree about the Raiders o-line but it's not like Chicago is running out a significantly better line and they lost their RT during the game.  How could the Raider D line not take advantage of that?

Lord I hope Gruden hasn't lost the team.

imho, it's play calling.  if i know what they're going to do, a lot of the time, so does everyone else.  and then if you don't have the horses to implement your will, you ain't doing squat.  for example:  what do you think the audible "dame liiliard" is?  i have been saying for years, that the game and players has passed gruden by.  he's not an offensive genius.  he certainly not an innovator.

the team we have seen on the field the last 2 games, is the one i expected to see this year.

miller 46 career starts

simpson 2

james 1 start at center, in college + pro

good 16

LW NFL debut

   y'all didn't want more linemen.  this is scary.
and don't forget this.

good is gone. LW was moved to guard, so that parker, 0 career starts, could play LT.  that means the team is playing a line with 4 guys, with 3 combined starts, prior to this year.

KC doesn't look right with all their new linemen either.

That is a crappy loss from a team we should have beat. As I said before, I would entertain if this was the same ole' crap we have seen in previous years and I have to say I am officially worried about that now. The season is still young so I am hoping the things I saw in this team this off season and in the first 3 games prove true but I have to be honest and say it worries me.

This game was lost due to a slow start again, penalties, dropped balls, bad o-line play and the d-line not dominating like they should have.

The penalties killed us on both sides of the ball.

Edwards dropped one absolutely wide open- absolutely no excuses to drop it ball, Renfrow had one he normally always catches and Waller had two of those as well.

The o-line isn't getting push and isn't holding up on pass rushes. We moved Leatherwood inside and Parker at RT. It didn't seem to help. We really need Incognito back but I don't know if that will be near enough.

The d-line should have dominated the Bears. They did get pressure on Fields but they got bullied in the run game. The Bears being able to run effectively on top of the penalty yards is what kept them in the game.

Losing to the Chargers was not frustrating. Losing to the Bears is. The only positive this week was that the Chiefs lost again.
