So no Gilmore and no Jamie Collins.
Down to Jaylon.
Jaylon seems to be the wrong answer to the Raiders' problem on D...
The run defense has been a weakness
The Raiders are allowing 132.2 rushing yards per game (23rd) and 4.85 yards per carry (29th). The Chargers have a league average rushing attack (tied for 16th in total rushing offense and 17th in rushing yards per carry) but gouged Las Vegas for 168 rushing yards while averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
Las Vegas has played 63 percent of its defensive snaps in nickel and has had light boxes (six or fewer defenders at or near the line of scrimmage) 45.65 percent of the time, but both of those are around league average rates. Even when the Raiders go to heavy boxes (seven or more defenders), the run defense is still lackluster as it has given up 4.4 yards per carry (26th).
That speaks to it being more of a personnel issue than a schematic problem. Though the Raiders’ defensive line has generated a strong pass rush (seventh in pressures), the only difference-maker in the run game is nose tackle Johnathan Hankins. The linebackers and safety Johnathan Abram (who’s played 40.9 percent of his snaps in the box) have just been OK as the second level of run support and the back seven as a whole needs to improve when it comes to pursuit angles, but this problem won’t go away if the front four can’t shed blocks and fill space more consistently.
