2021 Las Vegas Raiders - PLAYOFFS!!!! (2 Viewers)

The Las Vegas Raiders remained in the hunt for a playoff berth after a 17-13 win against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The victory moved Las Vegas to 8-7 on the season while dropping the Broncos, who the Raiders were competing with for a wild-card spot, to 7-8.

so you`re saying there`s a chance
they have to win out.  ugly win today, but....just win baby!

All in favor?
The HC opening is intriguing and probably a unique one. I have a feeling if they make the playoffs or make an admirable playoff push it could be a "status quo" situation. I liken it to the Roseanne sitcom controversy. Roseanne makes some racist comments and gets fired from her own show but they keep the show going as the Conners on the strength of the supporting cast. If Bisaccia, Olsen, Bradley and Cable get this team to the playoffs do they become the Conners?

Has Bradley done enough to keep his job and avoid being forced out by hiring a new defensive minded HC?

Are they really going to have Derek Carr learn another offense after 3 years of learning Gruden's playbook?

Two major questions that need to be answered and I think making a strong playoff push will tell all. This Indy game is probably the biggest game since the 2016 season.

All in favor?
I can't say I am in favor... I can't say I am against.

Here is my guesses regarding staffing.

I think Mayock will stay on board.

I think if we make playoffs Bisaccia keeps the job. If he keeps the job, I think Bradley most likely comes back as well. I am 50/50 on Olsen being brought back. If we win out but miss the playoffs (I am not sure of where we are but I am pretty sure even if we win all games we need some help), then I think he will be interviewed amd given the chance to compete against other interviewees. If we drop both games, he is gone for sure.

If Bissacia is not brought back, I think pretty much all coaches positions will have the new guy bringing in his guys.

If we hire someone other than Bisaccia, I would be willing to bet good money that the new HC will be a minority.

Out of all of the coaches that have been discussed (other than crazy scenario things from fantasyland like Tomlin or Payton) no one gets me pumped up. Not that none of them can't or will not be good or great but that all come with some significant question marks. There is one I know I don't want with passion (McDaniels). The rest are a range of maybe he will good to I am not sure about that.

There could be a candidate that I haven't seen discussed so maybe that will be exciting.

Linebacker Denzel Perryman, cornerback Casey Hayward Jr., linebacker K.J. Wright, linebacker Cory Littleton, defensive tackle Darius Philon, and linebacker Patrick Onwuasor have all been placed on COVID-19 reserve.

this is me.  very solid, meh.  but also, as chad said, there's not a guy that i'm dying to have on board.  are there any coordinators on crappy teams, that are killing it?  keith butler?  who is the panthers DC?
There doesn’t seem to be a great potential coach for the Raiders but there choice needs to be bold.  The next GM needs to be a big improvement too.  Missing on almost all of the early draft picks has really hurt.  How the heck do the Raiders compete with teams like KC, Buffalo and even the Bengals.  Don’t look now but the Bengals are full of young talent and should be a force for years.  The Raiders do not compare very well to Burrow, Mixon, Chase, and Higgins.

The most intriguing candidate to me is Jerod Mayo. It is a total swing for the fences type of guy though because there is tons to like about him but his coaching experience is extremely thin. I mean, I can't think of another HC that got the nod with as thin of a resume. That is a big question mark for sure. But he has a big reputation as a hard worker and great attitude. You have to figure his football IQ is high being in the NE defense for all those years. He will definitely relate to the players being he was a player just a few years ago. The only missing piece is coaching experience. It has to be a pretty big jump to go from a couple of years of being the LB position coach to the HC. How much of a learning curve would be there?

I'm totally down for Bowles.

He's a really good coach, and absolutely deserves a 2nd chance as a HC.   His defensive schemes are outstanding, and we could really use that sort of expertise in the AFC West.

Count me in.

So get my hopes up even one more level, eh? ;)

Wentz is unvaccinated so he's like to miss the game. I mean, just wow.
Wentz will miss the game unless the NFL changes the protocols. Unvaccinated out 10 days mandatory, vaccinated 5 days. There is a chance they change the protocols this week.

I believe he can miss five days if he is a close contact of an infected person. It's 10 days if he is infected himself.

Colts have placed QB Carson Wentz on the reserve/Covid list/
We have 3 LB's right now on active roster.

3 LB'S. 3 WR's. 7 corners and safeties. 1 QB.

Deablo, Lee and Compton for LB's.

On COVID: Edwards, Eluemanur, Facsyon, Hayward, Mariota, Littleton, Onwasuar, Perryman, Philon, Teamer and Wright.

We need some guys back or Taylor will wear down our thin LB and secondary and it will not matter who is at QB.

Javin White is the only LB on PS. Peterman can be called up to backup Carr. There are a couple of safeties that could be called up too.

LB is scary thin. I even saw that Morrison was tweeting for us to sign him and he can come in and play (what are the covid protocols on that?)

All our guys can play on Sunday with a negative test. So fingers crossed.
I believe Perryman was known to be unvaccinated when we traded for him.  He may have since gotten the vaccine, but if not and they don't change the protocols he will have to sit.  That would be a huge loss.

and just like that The NFL tweaked the rules and Wentz can play on Sunday if he doesn’t have symptoms. And there’s no way they would downplay any symptoms of course, right? ;)

Yup... is likely the best trade we have done in... what.... 20 years easily. Exchange a 6th for a 7th and get a pro bowler (and the Falcons ate $1 million and the guy that filled his spot has stunk). Hopefully he can play.

Raiders are expected to look at multiple head coaching candidates, including Todd Bowles, Leslie Frazier, Gus Bradley, Rich Bisaccia, according to league sources.

Why not Eric Bieniemy?
I don't think that that is an exhaustive list but for whatever reasons... Bieniemy just doesn't seem to get the front office/ownership excited. My best guess is that the success of the KC offense is more about the players and Reid than him. Likely the complete failure of Nagy in Chicago probably reinforces that perception (fair or not).

If it makes you feel better, the betting odds have Bieniemy as a better bet than Bowles tied with Daboll. The only person with better odds is Bisaccia.

RIP John Madden

as a 54 yr old, he was the coach of the Raiders when I became a fan after the 77 super bowl win over the Vikes and he is probably one of the main reasons I became a fan. Madden, plus the Snake (I’m a lefty) and Casper and Lester Hayes are likely my Raiders Mount Rushmore during my early years as a fan.
and, yes, watching that documentary on my DVR now will have a whole different feeling now.

I’m about your age and fell in love with those 70s Raiders even though I was raised in western PA and should have been a Steeler fan.  Madden and those Raider teams were the greatest teams.  They had colorful players and won with gritty determination with the perfect coach.   Madden has been bigger than life for my whole life

Madden passing hurts.  A lot.  Damn it.

Yeah, I’m a Brooklyn, NY kid and should’ve been a Giants fan but chose the Raiders because they were great and had awesome personalities on the team. After retiring from coaching, we raiders fans were given the gift of being able to see and hear Madden every week on MNF. Even though his schtick got old near the end, he was more dynamic than anyone and had amazing football knowledge. He was a legend and trail blazer. Raiders fans were lucky to call him one of our own and the rest of the football and sports world got to enjoy him for decades after his raiders tenure ended.

allegedly, he got vaccinated.  just an unreal trade.

Now TE Darren Waller is in COVID protocol, says #Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia.

Rich Bisaccia said the #Raiders got Roderic Teamer, Jermaine Eluemunor and Brandon Facyson back from the reserve/COVID-19 list, but Darren Waller was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list today.

This made me smile

thank you
It is almost like they know what they are doing when it comes to the Oline. Miller needed time... apparently James needed time... hopefully Leatherwood is the same. Guards are easier to find than tackles and centers. If we get those pieces in place then we are in a good spot... even more so with Good coming back. Just bring in a guard and a #1 WR and the offense should be back to being a top unit... assuming we don't blow everything up and a new staff comes in.

Does Mark Davis keep Cable no matter what happens is the question

i think the only way the staff remains intact, is if they win a playoff game.  even winning out won't guarantee anything IHMO.

I think if we make playoffs then Bisaccia will have a strong chance of being brought back. If he is brought back then I am sure most staff will be brought back.

If Bissacia is not brought back the chances of retaining Cable or any staff is very low. Most HC's like to bring in their own guys.

I hope the Raiders make the playoffs, but I don't think Bisaccia is the answer at HC.  Sometimes teams win just enough to keep the wrong guy and I hope that doesn't happen here.

The one guy that must not return is Olson IMO.

The Raiders have no business being in the playoffs.   If they were run properly, they would have lost the last 2 games in order to draft earlier.   This team needs to look to the future and put together a 2 - 3 year plan to build a talented and well coached team.  The Raiders need more at HC and OC.

They probably don't have any business being in the playoffs, but there is not a single team in the NFL that would purposely tank with 4 games left and being right in the middle of the playoff hunt.  I don't even know how they could have gone about losing the last two games if they were "properly run".

Raiders activated CB Casey Hayward from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Raiders also got LB Cory Littleton, MLB Denzel Perryman, and DT Darius Philon back from the COVID list. Perryman remains questionable with an ankle issue. Hayward has started every game this year and the new COVID rules allowed him to return without an absence. He has five pass defenses and three TFLs on the season.
