2021 Philadelphia Eagles - Queued up a playlist of our greatest zits throughout the season for final game (1 Viewer)

Seems that most Eagles fans are in the same place after that game: happy about the win, encouraged that we saw way more good things than bad, and to paraphrase Winston Wolfe: let's not start high-fiving each other yet. Next week's game against SF will be a better litmus test of what this team is/could be.

I use the unparaphrashed version of that a lot in regular conversations. Always gets a head turn or a chuckle.

legit weeping tears of joy at this OL

Having to go through NFL record number of OL combinations last year was such a part of what tanked everything.

Great blocking.

Not living in Philly and being down on the Eagles, I really haven't followed them that closely this offseason. As a result, it wasn't until last Friday, it occurred to me, wait, is Brandon Brooks back? I texted my SIL and she confirmed that he was playing. Then I am watching the game and it occurred to me, wait, Lane Johnson is playing. So we got Johnson, Brooks, Kelce (of course), Seumalo, who is a veteran, and a young stud in Mailata who has been learning the position and just got his nice new contract. That is a really good line when they are all healthy. With two good veteran TE's, two 1st round WR's, a really nice starting RB with possibly a nice rookie compliment. and a young QB who can threaten the defense with his legs and arm, this offense has some possibilities. Yes, it was the Falcons, but they played a complete game and dominated a bad team which is what good teams are supposed to do. This week will tell us more, but now I am excited for this season.

Couple of unsolicited thoughts,

Congrats on the win guys.   I want to wait another week but I may have some crow to eat on Hurts. Yesterday he played better than I ever thought he was capable of.

It also seems apparent that your HC is a good OC.

I saw a small piece on him and his family before the game, explaining why he was dressed casually and how excited he was to tell his parents about the job that made and I found him to be kinda likable. Im never going to hate a guy who has a passion for something even if he is a goof.

With that said, he had a hilarious exchange between one of his defensive players during the game. I think it was just before the half, I saw him angrily yell to one of his defensive players that he wanted to talk to him "after this play."  :lmao:   The next play was 3rd down so the whole play of a crucial down the player is probably wondering WTF does coach Nick want?

Could not have been happier. They drive down on us first drive and its history after that. Both lines played so well, the playcalling was so on point. Would LOVE some more power running w the QB lined up behind center, but thats a bit nitpicky. Shutting down Kyle Pitts with these LBs we have was the icing on the cake.  Started bend but don't break, but the defensive adjustments! Not used to that sort of stuff. Bring on San Fran! No way they win with SB52 score 41-33 then beat us the following week. NO WAY! Haha.

Explosive plays (20+ yards) given up by the defense in 2020: 101 (6 per game)

Explosive plays given up vs. ATL: 0 (longest gain was 18 yards)

On offense, 33 explosive plays last year (2 per game), yesterday: 4

Good signs! Really a big fan of the defensive game plan!

A win is a win, but Atlanta is picking in the top 5 again.  They are worse than the 4 win team they were last year.  From the looks of it, they should have taken Sewell instead of Pitts.  Their OL got absolutely manhandled yesterday.  If they win 4 games again this year, I'll be surprised.

I agree and would be more concerned if they squeaked past such a bad team. It was domination pretty much everywhere which was encouraging.

Look, our schedule gets hard here.  Good chance we're 2-4 at best going into week 7.  Let us have this please.

Speaking about the OL, how incredible is Kelce, at his age to be running down field making multiple blocks at the second and third levels?!

I think that is likely going to be true for the Falcons, Bengals, and Dolphins...and likely at least 1 one the top-3 QB teams.

Yeah, he is such an all-time Eagle, to a T. I don't see a way he isn't a Hall of Famer.
It will be a bit before Kelce makes the HOF but I think be has a shot. 11th season. Only missed time in 2 seasons (early in his career). Been the anchor only some of the best OLines in franchise history. And super bowl champion.

I feel like our O-line and D-line got better as the game went on. Ridley disappeared after that first drive. I'm curious if Slay ended up mirroring Ridley.

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with how composed both Hurts and Smith were. They both came out extremely focused. At the beginning of the game I mentioned to my oldest son about their dead eye stare on the sidelines. Like a boxer getting ready for the fight. He said that Smith was always like that. Takes the game seriously. I'm getting excited about our offense.

Defense it looked like we played a base 4-3 most of the game. I wish the TV broadcast would let you see the defense adjustments at the snap but it seems like we are more about disguising the defense inside base formations. Could be interesting. Ryan had no deep targets in the 2nd half.

Play calling seemed pretty safe IMHO yesterday but were aggressive on the 4th and short going for it type plays. They played to Hurts strength. Would like to see them get more aggressive as the year goes on there and see Hurts air it out more. Because teams will eventually adjust to that short game

“Giants HC Joe Judge has sent the team and coaches back out onto the field and they are now running laps.”

They have disaster written all over them too

These former Patriot coaches need to realize the BB Patriot WAY BS isn't gonna work else where in the NFL. NE got lucky with BB and getting Brady and winning right away and continuing the success so guys bought in and drink the kool aid. But these other guys aren't not after multiple years and the guys who didn't have fun talking about it.

Just from talking to some people it sounds like the assistant NE coaches who end up as HCs besides Mike Vrabel are all #######s and having some fun involved is sacrilege

After yesterday and I'm Matt Ryan Im 🤬 off. I don't move so well already how do you expect me to throw to the guys with these turnstiles as my Offensive line?

Dude is an incredible person got another cool story I'll save for another day about something he did to help someone while in Sea Isle for 5 weeks this summer

Best speech in the history of Championship Speeches ever

In the mean time speaking of Jason Kelce I found out Brandon Graham moved to the area a few months ago down the street from Jason. Also talked to Jason's FIL today (he's there upgrading, fixing and cleaning security cameras), and he was walking with Brian Westbrook during the Autism challenge who said he was moving to the same location or looking to move there. Eagles coming to DELCO everywhere now.

Saw BG down on the boards in Wildwood over Labor Day weekend.

I’m normally asleep by the 3rd quarter and hate the Monday night crew. They were fantastic and made me watch the entire game. So many good exchanges between them

Peyton when Ray Lewis was on ragging about Eli's terrible game against BAL Was great

Also Travis Kelce switched his weeks up and forgot KC was play BAL on Sun night in BAL next week. Then he cursed on the next segment after the break and had to apologize

Barkley was one of the fist guest and they asked him if he ever got booed by the Home fans. He said "it's called Philly and I probably deserved it when they did too." Had me going there.

Eli and Peyton just calling out plays and coverages and what to do was fantastic as well

Hope you went up to him. He's pretty good with that stuff. My Produce Managers son has messaged him on his IG after games like good game BG and stuff like that and BG responds to him.

Kelce's FIL also told me if I do the Autism challenge next year he'd be glad to take me around the event and meet some of the players and coaches. The whole family is top notch people. His FIL has the neighbor on the spectrum who they did two stories on awhile ago. They show Jason's wife with him in her parents house watching the game with him and had a few bits of info on their relationship. It's pretty cool and his FIL showed me a recent picture of the kid and he looks great. Doing really well in school too.

I think the coolest thing about it is his FIL is so open about a lot of stuff some people wouldn't or they just put off people and think they are entitled now. I've had a few co workers I've introduced him too who are big Eagles fans. Other stores employees who know him he's cool with and one guy and ASD took a photo that was in the managers office of Kelce in the Mummers costume and sent it to him. FIL asked if he could have it to show Jason. Showed up a few days later with Jason's autograph on the picture. That's just the type of guy he is though and the whole family is great. Jason's wife was also at the store yesterday and her father being there introduced me to here. She's a really good looking girl and she's super nice. Was really excited when I told her she use to work with my Cousin. Travis is probably going over to the house the weekend of the KC game since Kelce's one kid Birthday is that week and they are apparently having a small family get together. Their dad lives in Philly and Mom lives in Orlando I think as they are separated but remain good friends. It's not every day you get to meet people like that though who are so open who they are. Only other person I know whos that way to an extent is John LeClair.

It does seem Kelce is leaning to retirement year by year but I think he's playing it by ear at this point. The minute he feels he can't give 100% he's gone though. He's not IMHO going to be a Jason Peters

I know it's early but I was thinking of what the Eagles should do with next years draft and their picks. If Wentz plays the % we need we get 3 1st rounders and overall 5 picks in the first 2 days of the draft. Depending what they do that could end up more or less.

1Eagles' own pick

 1From Dolphins

 2Eagles' own pick

2 From Colts, via Carson Wentz trade (can become a 1)

 3Eagles' own pick

 4Eagles' own pick

 5Eagles' own pick

 5From WFT

6From Colts, via Matt Pryor trade

I think if they have the 3 1st they have plenty of room to play around here and one 2nd. Depending where these picks fall in line the Eagles should have a solid amount of targets for who they want.

Needs IMHO I think will determine how they feel about Hurts which right now from my understanding their thoughts haven't changed from Jan of this year and after this past weeks game so QB could be on the menu. If there's a guy they really like I think they take him. However depending on FA and how they feel about how far they are out $$$$ etc they could go and change the NFL landscape say by Signing Aaron Rodgers. Or if they want a bridge gap go the Bridgewater, Brisset or Mariotta (Imagine if that were to happen) routes and draft their guy to develop. I think if we do get a QB Hurts ends up being traded and one of the latter 3 becomes a bridge gap and then the back up.

The Eagles needs IMHO if they don't sign a Rodgers and feel they need a QB still would be QB/CB/Safety/LB/Line depth on both sides/TE. Next year has some really Solid CBs who could all switch projected draft order with their play. There's a few QBs out there but almost non of the them had great games week 1 of college football. I think if there's a must take player the Eagles have the ammo to move up in the draft. However I'd go BPA with your top 3 needs. If a guy falls at a position other then QB after you took the position they should think about taking him or maybe move back a few spots and acquire more picks. There's really no reason the Eagles should get cute with their draft in 22. They got ample amounts of picks in the top 3 rounds and have a Madden Franchise players fantasy dream of stock piled 1st 2nd and 3rd round picks. Depending also on what the Eagles do this year play wise they could have even more if either or both Ertz/Goadert are traded at the deadline or within season.

I also liked someone's idea earlier this week of trading Sanders to Bal for a high pick. If we are out of it and Bal needs a back I'd have no problem trading Sanders at the right price. This isn't because I don't like the guy though and this all also depends on Gainwell's development. However I'm not a believer in paying backs unless your skill set is similar to Dalvin Cook/Derrick Henrey and carrying the bal 20-25 times a game as a bell cow back. If the offense is as productive as I think it can be they should be able to get ample back play from most of the backs on the roster. It saves money and most RBs have a shelf life on only 5-6 yrs anyway. Just look at the top 5 young backs 6 yrs ago and tell me how many are playing today, FA's or no longer in the league who had pretty good starts to their career then faltered off.

The point though here is the Eagles have plenty of ammo to make moves next year including signing FA.s for depth signing offensively and intriguing younger but Vet WRs who might do well in this offense as well as possible added veteran OL and DL depth. There's also a few LBs, CBs and Safeties worth looking at either for depth or competition as a starter. Eagles also investing Cox contract into a signing bonus this past Saturday saving over $11M adding to $20M right now in cap space. So the Eagles are gearing up to be a very busy org come this offseason. I know it's awhile out but just some interesting stuff that can come into play here.

The obsession you have with moving on from Hurts, especially after that week 1 performance is about as puzzling of a take as I've ever seen on these boards. Brissett, Mariotta, and Bridgewater... seriously? This is what we're talking about?

Yeah man, you have to be flexible with this. Many of us thought Seamulo was terrible a few years back but he’s improved and is playing at a high level. Hurts played poorly last year and looked damn good on Sunday. Both can be true. We’re on a fantasy football message board. Every single one of us has “loved” or “hated” a guy only to be proven wrong dozens of times. You can’t stay locked in.

One game but it's amazing when you have a coaching staff that caters to a player's strengths and puts the best players out there instead of old has beens.

Was actually going to say the same but wanted to allow more time.

Something as small as not seeing Greg Ward on the field was a breathe of fresh air to me lol. Doug is gonna have such a crazy Philly style arch like Foles lol
