Could you imagine what the fan reaction would be if we lost a game where the other team rushed the ball 45 times and passed just 3?!
You are so wrong about this
Say what now? I think you are confused as to his departure at Bama which he handled with absolute class

His dad literally complained about his playing time. Then he went to OU because Riley guaranteed him the starting job despite the fact they had Rattler they guaranteed it too and Hurts took the job instead. It's why some OU fans weren't pleased with Hurts and his family. I actually went on a few OU message boards and their reddit to get what the actual story was. A few of the assistant coaches weren't too pleased about Hurts being given the job by Riley either. in fact just got word when Riley left that a few of those coaches were relieved they didn't have to work with Riley anymore because they felt he's an absolute snake.
Now I'm not saying that's personally on Hurts but his dad has been an issue. There were rumors Hurts wouldn't have gone to OU had Riley not guaranteed Jalen's dad his son the job. Riley isn't the guy the media portrays him as.
This details it pretty well and I think it’s safe to say that Hurts would not have gone to Oklahoma if he wasn’t gonna be the starting QB.Nope. You got proof bud? Cause I'm gonna call you out. Hurts ain't perfect. he or his daddy didn't do any of the above
And Riley didn't have to gaurantee him anything. They are a college qb factory. Hurts went there and won that job
Not really. This details it pretty well and I think it’s safe to say that Hurts would not have gone to Oklahoma if he wasn’t gonna be the starting QB.
Saying he’s a quitter who wanted to play and left to be a starter and not compete is a fair statement and it seems to have worked out for everyone.

*ETA*
I do NOT think this makes Hurts a “quitter” today either. I definitely don’t think it’s fair to hold things like this against them when they were kids at the time.
I only know what his dad was quoted as saying and all signs point one wayNot really.
Hey if that's what you believe good on ya

None of it should be held against him today as well
I for one feel Minshew will lead us to the super bowl this year. This discussion again? Gonna be a long bye week...
look, we get it, DJax10 is sour#### on Hurts and lovesick and sad over Wentz. We know it, its exhausting to keep rehashing it.
You have a long history of bashing Jalen (not his dad) for running away from Alabama, but you seem to have changed your tune now to saying it was all his dad and Jalen wasn't at all at fault. Odd.In case you didn't see my last comment I did state my initial comment that got this going was more tongue in cheek Its also pretty well known Hurts father threw the general Dad response many parents give their kids coaches "Let them play or else." threat snd when his son didn't win the job his son Transfered the following year. Hey Hurts did what he had to for his career but his dad was a complete unprofessional. As someone who coaches himself he should handle those situations better. I think a lot of Hurts fans want to forget that part. It doesn't say anything Negative on Jalen as it does his father but it seems like talking about it makes people feel it's a negative on Hurts
Hopefully his dad learned from the mistake because next time a parent pulls that on him coaching he better think twice what he does and says next to not look like a hypocrite.
Unless he’s a Dallas Cowboy now and played for Penn State, and you are Djackson10*ETA*

I would really like to see what he is like behind the scenes too. This is definitely an old guy yells at cloud opinion but I hate Minshew's shtick. To me it seems over the top and put on for the media.I really want to see some tape or Minshew behind the scenes in meetings or something. The guy is such a unique legendary guy that I have a hard time imagining him in a serious situation haha.
BINGO! Well said....I don't follow college football, and have been trying not to follow this nonsense here, but jfc...
The main purpose of college football for these players is to get to the NFL, be drafted high, and make big bucks. Only one QB can play at a time. So if I'm a college QB with NFL talent, and there's even a hint of me losing my job at my current school vs going to a different one and guaranteed starting, guess what, I'm transferring my ### ASAP because it's about my future. And I wouldn't give a crap if some dudes on a message board called me a quitter, I'd be doing what's best for myself and my future, which I think about 100% of you would do the same.
So cut the kid some slack. Also, predicting someone will succeed or fail doesn't earn you anything. Just try and enjoy the games, man.
Has this turned into an Archie Manning topic?
I don't know anyone's history, but there does seem to be some hypocrisy here when it comes to Wentz losing his starting job and wanting to go elsewhere (whiny baby who didn't get his way) and Hurts losing his starting job and wanting to go elsewhere (fierce competitor who wanted to be the starter somewhere). You have a long history of bashing Jalen (not his dad) for running away from Alabama, but you seem to have changed your tune now to saying it was all his dad and Jalen wasn't at all at fault. You're already waist-deep in irrational Hurts hate, no reason to stop now.
I can think of 128 million reasons why I expected Wentz to fight through adversity instead of whining his was out of town.I don't know anyone's history, but there does seem to be some hypocrisy here when it comes to Wentz losing his starting job and wanting to go elsewhere (whiny baby who didn't get his way) and Hurts losing his starting job and wanting to go elsewhere (fierce competitor who wanted to be the starter somewhere).
And there's no Hurts hate on my end. I hope he becomes a Steve Young.

And one of them was rich af and the other had very little money and was trying to earn a living.BINGO.
There is absolutely a comparison to what they both did. Being unable to understand one without the other pretty much outs which camp their in, in my opinion.
This exact post applies to both Hurts in college and Wentz a few years later in the pros.

He could have battled to win the job at Alabama. And one of them was rich af and the other had very little money and was trying to earn a living.
One was tall with red hair the other was shorter with darker hair. Both like long walks on the beach and a good book. And one of them was rich af and the other had very little money and was trying to earn a living.
You’ll learn real quick who’s in what gang by what they rationalize. He could have battled to win the job at Alabama.
Absolutely. Hurts played great as a starter at OU rather than ride the bench behind Tua. And Wentz currently has 22 TDs and 5 int. in Indy. Both made the right call and are enjoying great success. You’ll learn real quick who’s in what gang by what they rationalize.
You’ll see VERY few who can admit both were right to say “F u I’m out”.
They can be quitters who made the right call. Both things can be true.
In the least surprising move ever, Djax brings up Ben again in the Eagles thread.Yeah I like to call out the hypocrisy. I've had friends who have defended Simmons and then call Wentz a quitter and I'm like but you are defending Simmons who's way more over the top and literally everything Wentz has been accussed of. it's more blatant and not as much as just opinion or speculation from some journalists. People really hate when you give the recipes too so they can't even backtrack and when they try and it gets even more fun.
Nah, I'm in the camp that both are fine for leaving. But there's zero chance a poor kid trying to make his first pay cheque deserves as much or more criticism than a guy worth millions. You’ll learn real quick who’s in what gang by what they rationalize.

People transfer all the time to go to better situations that will make their lives better. These kids aren't under contract and getting paid millions to play for their team.He could have battled to win the job at Alabama.
I have no problem with his decision. Nor Wentz'. Seems I'm rare in these parts. I guess I'm supposed to be a hypocrite and only side with one.People transfer all the time to go to better situations that will make their lives better. I do think there is a difference. Wentz was still going to be the Eagles starting QB in 2021 if he stayed, Alabama pretty clearly was going with Tua. I don't think either situation was ever going to be a true competition. He could have battled to win the job at Alabama.
No way. Eagles were going with Hurts regardless. Wentz knew that. He had lost the fans long ago, followed by the front office and coaching staff. No QB of his caliber would have stayed under those conditions. Eagles took his statue down shortly after he left. The whole situation was a joke. Hopefully Howie doesn't turn the first rounder into another Jalen Reagor. Eagles have a real chance at turning things around for years to come if they manage this draft correctly.I do think there is a difference. Which I wouldn't have known without you quoting him.In the least surprising move ever, Djax brings up Ben again in the Eagles thread.
Where they were was meaningless, in my opinion. There’s no statue of limitations on this as you’ll see in 5-10 years when Eagles fans STILL bring up him “quitting and being a baby”. We’ve done it with enough athletes already across all 4 sports. That's where I disagree. Wentz already made it. He got paid. He was the starter and that wasn't changing.
We’ve followed sports long enough to know those contracts hold as much weight as commitments to college as you said in your first sentence….People transfer all the time to go to better situations that will make their lives better. These kids aren't under contract and getting paid millions to play for their team.
this. they arent comparableDeamon said:People transfer all the time to go to better situations that will make their lives better. These kids aren't under contract and getting paid millions to play for their team.
No way, 99% chance if Wentz stays he's the starter. He'd have had to really stink it up - like DJax gleefully reminds everyone, the Eagles weren't (and aren't) remotely sold on Hurts.Quakertown Tom said:No way. Eagles were going with Hurts regardless. He's definitely improved a lot from those first few games. Rookie HC that had never called plays - not surprising that he'd have some growing pains too.Bigboy10182000 said:Changing gears….
I mentioned before how well I thought Sirianni has done but just looking at stats I didn’t realize we were 10th in scoring and 13th in yards. Pretty remarkable when you factor in the QB play and injuries to both guards, RT, and RB. Really hope he comes out of the bye as well as Reid used to.
It's extremely rare for a QB (or any NFL player) to bail on an extension he signed for millions of dollars without even serving ONE year of that extension. Holding out with a year remaining? Sure. No one cares about that. Wentz didnt do a single year of his extension. That is VERY uncommon.Bigboy10182000 said:We’ve followed sports long enough to know those contracts hold as much weight as commitments to college as you said in your first sentence….
Was speaking about contracts in general. The whole “honor your contract” stance is as silly as when people use pro-bowls to justify a player being good. Teams and players don’t honor them. Just like players in college don’t honor their letters of intent or commitments. It's extremely rare for a QB (or any NFL player) to bail on an extension he signed for millions of dollars without even serving ONE year of that extension.
