My God, I've had experience with college football. Getting caught in a bad program or bad coaching situation where they value somebody ahead of you ruins plans and careers. 

Hurts is no quitter. Quitting is stopping playing football and chasing the muff around the pool, like the guy in Dazed and Confused. It's not transferring to a similar school, staying fit and all that entails, and playing in a similar conference.

He was the starter, got unseated, and didn’t feel like he could beat Tua out so he went for greener pastures.  It also was a smart decision on his part.

You guys had the Big Five. That was a total lesson in "quitting" as guys that weren't good enough to start for...say... 'Nova went to St. Joe's, guys that couldn't hack it at Temple went to La Salle. And on and on. These things weed out that way. Nobody "quit" because they didn't want to sit the bench at a better school behind better guys. They chose and/or transferred.

I gather from your use of lowercase and uppercase that you're making fun of people who said that, but I don't know for sure, so I've got to give a straight answer.

Anyway, I'm sort of a neutral party, but a Hurts supporter. What I'd like to see, ideally? Proper evaluation in place to evaluate him, not just evaluate how somebody does in a particular system. That's what I root for.

Ive said it before. I’d probably have the same advice for Hurts as his father and if I were Wentz I’d probably want out too. It’s the one is a quitter and the other that isn’t that doesn’t sit with me. If one is, they both are. 

As far as Nova, they’re hardly recognized here even when they were doing well. Football is king here. If we had a huge, Alabama style program fans wouldn’t be able to deal with what Hurts did. They’d hate him for decades.

Fair enough. I think the situations aren't totally analogous and that Hurts had more reason to leave, but I guess we're not too far apart in our assessment.

There is absolutely a comparison to what they both did. Being unable to understand one without the other pretty much outs which camp their in, in my opinion. 

This exact post applies to both Hurts in college and Wentz a few years later in the pros. 

My biggest issue with the Wentz haters is regurgitating absolute BS on the subject or sugar coated stuff. From everyone I spoke too including my coworkers son there was a ton of sugar coating and exaggerated BS. This isn't to say Carson had his own faults though at all. Just more so a lot of the stuff said wasn't true. There was an issue between Doug and Carson but it was greatly exaggerated. it's how the media sells to their readers now. Now you have guys like the Joe S guy who did the Philly Voice article and Jeff McLane who write absolute BS hit pieces and neither guys or people like them should be trusted but they aren't held accountable because their articles get eyes and thats all their employer cares about. 

Then you have people who write articles with truth but then sugar coat it like The Athletic article after Wentz was traded. The truth is in-between with the Athletic one. People just need to know what is true and whats not and stop regurgitating what they heard on the local radio. I also think the whole "too soft for our city" is just a copout by people who don't want to really debate and just don't like certain players. This term gets thrown around way too much in this city. I use to think Philly fans in general were smart but each passing year I start to highly doubt that. 

You got to figure out whats really true and whats BS. Having people on the inside always help but I've learned also over the years how to decipher BS from facts. Especially when people are accussed of something for the first time.

It has context in this issue. I'm sorry if it's a hard topic or issue. I brought up how there were a lot of Wentz haters who basically defended Ben for literally everything they accused Wentz for. And at the the same time Ben had a history going back long before he got to the league of those same things. I know some people don't want to admit to that. But hey whatever helps them sleep at night I guess. 

I'm not saying Wentz didn't have his issues but I'm gonna call out the hypocrisy of fans who will defend a guy for a history they accussed one player of and a lot of the regurgitated material was either 100% false or sugar coated from the media and others. I never had an agenda with Ben other then he was overrated and I was maybe one of the only people on this board who brought up the Jonathan Giovany Article on Simmons issues when it came out.I had a lot of people either ignore it or just flat-out say it was wrong. People transfer all the time to go to better situations that will make their lives better.  These kids aren't under contract and getting paid millions to play for their team.

Its the way it was handled. Dad got involved and mucked it up. This is no different then how Will Grier's father handled the situation when Will was suspended at Florida for PED. Coach Jim McElwaine (Ironically a former Tide coach) also didn't handle the situation well either but people ended up loathing Grier for it. Its not good when parents get involved especially in Hurts case. The kid didn't earn a starting job do to poor play. What makes Dad think he deserves to start over the guy in front of him? CFB is a business and like the NFL it's a what have you done for me lately. Honestly if I was coaching or a GM I'd put more importance to a guy who stayed and fought for his position then the kid who transfers because he wasn't guaranteed a spot. That to me just tells me you are afraid of competing and competition. 

Yes there's exceptions to this with situations such as a coach leaving and or bad environment and stuff like that should be considered but something like Hurts did just shows me a kid who doesn't want to compete.

I understand where Hurts was coming from but his status really didn't change much from not transferring to him transferring. He was a day 3 pick by most standards and the Eagles over drafted. Before leaving The Tide many scouts figured that Hurts to have the best NFL career he could should change positions. Eagles over drafted a project player. It's why they were hesitant to trade Wentz in the first place but they had no choice. However they let Wentz and his agent know they weren't gonna trade him just to trade him. Hurts was literally drafted to appease a former coaching staff no longer here. Ultimately that decision has had big time after altering effects that could change this Organization completely either bad or good we still aren't sure yet where at. 

However to me a kid transferring because he's a back up not and or wasn't gauranteed a job just tells me you aren't willing to compete. When Andy Reid scouted Sam Bradford (Eagles doing do diligence on every pick) The OU QB coach literally told Andy Reid that Sam Bradford has very thin skin. He has a weak mental capacity to take criticism. Right then and there Andy knew Sam Bradford would never succeed in Philly. Now I'm no saying Hurts has that type of mentality however him transferring and not fighting just shows me he didn't want to compete.

No way. Eagles were going with Hurts regardless. Wentz knew that. He had lost the fans long ago, followed by the front office and coaching staff. No QB of his caliber would have stayed under those conditions. Eagles took his statue down shortly after he left. The whole situation was a joke. Hopefully Howie doesn't turn the first rounder into another Jalen Reagor. Eagles have a real chance at turning things around for years to come if they manage this draft correctly. 

You weren't here back in January or maybe you read the board. However I have a customer who works the Eagles beat at one of the bigger Networks who use to write for the Inquirer. Either way he was a neighbor of one of my customers and I sent him an email as my coworkers son (who was Dino Vasso the assistant DC and DB coach) had given me some info on Jim Schwartz and how his retirement for health reasons was BS. 

Anyway I gave him the info told him who I was etc. He sent me a nice reply and gave me some interesting topic discussion stuff. Including the fact that Lurie despite happy with the SB win was so embarrassed about the defensive performance he thought real hard about firing Schwartz and finding an upgrade that offseason with Howie and Doug which ultimately didn't happen

The second part was mostly on Wentz. The first part was that the Wentz/Doug fractured Relationship was very sugar coated and not as bad as many were reporting as well as the fact a lot of stuff being reported was false or sugar coated and gave me a few examples

This next part is very important. On Hurts from his speculation of who he had talked too Hurts was drafted to please Doug and staff do to Doug and Howie's fractured relationship and Doug wanting a developmental QB who could start at times if Wentz got hurt. They didn't want a situation like the McCown one in the playoffs. At the time I talked to him Wentz was still the QB and the team was very hesitant to trade him unless they were getting at least 1st. This is because around 75% of the org didn't believe Hurts was a franchise caliber QB. This was literally then confirmed in multiple reports over the summer. Derrick Gunn tweeted about how fans felt about Sirianni not naming a starter. I tweeted DGunn "Shows what I was told about 75% of the org not believing Hurts as a franchise guy" Some idiot per usually asked the smart #### "sources" Gunn replied several which is when I realized what I was given was pretty straight forward stuff.

TTLTR version: Based on what I was told by their reporter about many in the Org not seeing Hurts as the future Starter I think Wentz is starting this year. Now I have heard stuff from people past and present there's a toxic atmosphere and the guy at the center of it all is Howie Roseman. I think Wentz felt he could handle the environment and realized he couldn't especially when he realized the coaches he had, had no clue how to do their jobs. And I don't think if that's true I blame Wentz for wanting to leave. If that was my current job I'd probably leave too despite the upstanding position I have right now with my employer.

Where they were was meaningless, in my opinion. There’s no statue of limitations on this as you’ll see in 5-10 years when Eagles fans STILL bring up him “quitting and being a baby”. We’ve done it with enough athletes already across all 4 sports. 

I still hear people bring up Scott Rolen being a baby but a lot of those people also don't know what Rolen went through here. 2nd year in MLB when he won rookie of the year you get your family coming in, organizations does everything like accommodations and tickets for the game etc. Guess what the Phillies did? Told Rolen hey you won ROTY in the NL and the physical award at the Park will be X day. Oh btw you need to find hotel accommodations for your family and we'll direct you to one of our PR people to HELP YOU FIND AND BUY THE TICKETS FOR THE FAMILY. Yeah they footed the bill and everything on Rolen. After his first extension he was promised the team would spend big in FA get top guys in there. Never happened. Rolen didn't extend because of these things and I can't blame him. Those who know the Rolen situation as well as Curt Schilling basically go to those two situations as when the Phillies changed Philopshy and started opening the purse up a little more. 

Then we got the Flyers Lindros situation where today the Flyers look absolutely horrible considering where we are at with concussions. Lindros was one of the first to make people aware of concussions and their severity and yet we still have people calling him a baby? Like I stated earlier the words soft/quitter/baby are used too much in town and I see it as a cop out by many who don't want to debate a topic or don't have a clear argument on why they believe they are right. I feel many just regurgitate what they hear on radio or read.

I mentioned before how well I thought Sirianni has done but just looking at stats I didn’t realize we were 10th in scoring and 13th in yards. Pretty remarkable when you factor in the QB play and injuries to both guards, RT, and RB. Really hope he comes out of the bye as well as Reid used to. 

It's pretty good and shows growth from a first year staff that's extremely young (They got coaches younger then me and Jason Kelce/Brandon Graham on this staff) and progress from them is what we want to see.

Wentz was criticized by fans last year because he sucked last year. Fans loved him the year before that and back. Was speaking about contracts in general. The whole “honor your contract” stance is as silly as when people use pro-bowls to justify a player being good. Teams and players don’t honor them. Just like players in college don’t honor their letters of intent or commitments. 

You let Temple be the same caliber as Alabama was and a Hurts type leave here, under those same circumstances, and all of you would be singing a different tune lol. The only difference is Wentz left us/here and Hurts left a place we don’t give a F about so it’s cool lol. 

Yeah people want these players to honor their contracts yet most teams in sports don't honor that contract. MLB is in a lockout and one of the topic I heard being discussed by Players is the service time manipulation teams do to get an extra year of service time out of players before they hit FA for the first time. Team wise it's smart but when you think about it from a players perspective it's pretty scummy thing to do. Sometimes manipulating screws with the players development. I find it funny when fans say players need too "honor your contract" yet don't say a dam thing when the team doesn't. There's always been a lot of people defending owners/teams and not enough defending the players when needed.

Hurts wasn't held back at all. In fact I heard the complete opposite from Bama fans that Hurts held the offense back and because of Tua's better arm the offense functioned the way it should. 

However Hurts wasn't being held back. He lost his job fair and square because he sucked and the other guy played better. So when he wasn't guaranteed the job he left. He wasn't held back. That is not what happened in this situation at all.

Want a perfect example of this? Cam Newton throwing a temper tantrum at Florida. He was brought in to basically compete for a back up job behind Tebow. The belief was Cam would be used in the Tebow role (Two QB System) and Tim would play more of the Chris Leak actual starter. Cam would have his own packages and plays and situations he'd come in on. Cam mucked it up so bad in the first spring practice that the Florida beat guys were suggesting that Florida should revoke Cam's scholarship. Ironically Cam tried bragging how much better he was when at Florida after getting the Carolina and the Florida guys had a fun time bringing up their articles how bad Cam Looked. Cam played 5 times Freshman year. Played decent beat out fellow Freshman finally in the summer camp. Started the first game vs Hawaii SO year and hurt his ankle took a medical redshirt year. That Nov he was arrested on Laptop theft that were dropped upon court approved behavioral events he had to complete

Newtown also according to campus rumors (I had a buddy I met on a Phillies board who attended UF and ended up as a neighbor of Tim's throughout college) that Cam accussed the Florida coaching staff of being racist and why he wasn't playing more games Freshman year. That didn't help Cam's popularity as by that point Tebow was treated like a god on campus despite Tebow rather keeping to himself and didn't care much for the fame. Anyway the plan was if Tebow left Early or after 2010 they still would've had Cam Newton for an extra year and have him start two yrs. Cam announced before the National title game vs OU and our old buddy Sammy Sleaves he was transferring. A fox sports report reported prior to transferring Newton was facing expulsion for 3 accounts of academic dishonesty. 

Cam literally had a chance to make a name for himself at Florida but his Ego and behavior were too much. He quit on himself and his team despite the fact he knew what the plan was and he hadn't lost his job despite having a season ending injury as he back up. 

I do agree with you on a prior post if Hurts had gone to temple and did what he did at Bama people here would have a problem but lets make this even better and put if Hurts was at PSU and did this, we'd have a contingent of Eagles fans wanting Hurts head right now. Manny Diaz just got dumped unprofessionally at Univ Miami. Karma kind of has a weird way since he did the same to Temple. Most Temple fans today are literally laughing at Diaz despite TU sucking because of karma. You won't see anyone from Temple or alumni feeling sorry for Manny Diaz

We got PSU but I don't count them since they are literally closer to Pittsburgh. However they don't claim PSU because they got UPitt who isn't a powerhouse but is literally their home team. It's be like if UPENN was still top level football and still the powerhouse they were in the 1920s. 

Also a lot of people don't even refer to Nova as part of Philly but I think that's more of school affiliation if you want to a inner city program or people who are jealous of them. It's kind of the Prep of colleges when it comes to sports in the area right now locally.

Minshew's character is the exact thing people want from a guy. Unfortunately though if a guy isn't like that here in this city people think they aren't made for the city. People hated Cole Hamels for yrs because of his laid back San Diego style.

All about Minshew.  I thought he looked decent at Jacksonville and I am glad they gave him the chance.  Also fairly happy when Howie got him.  I think this guy is solid and I agree, he has some magic when he plays and could get us some sneaky wins.  I think he has a better line and WR here than he ever did in Jacksonville.

I happened to be at the game and I can tell you, he looked good from what I saw.  Didn't rush passes and had pocket awareness.  As to who has a higher ceiling... I think that's debatable.  We can all say Hurts says he has mobility, but I would really like to see more consistency in the passing game.  That's where he is struggling and I don't know if he is reading the field well.  

IMO, the Eagles need to see what they have there and I agree, if he is healthy he should play.... but now what they know with Minshew... if he is having one of his off games, they have a solid option behind him that can win.

I don't think this will happen this offseason but Jeffrey should fire Howie. We need new eyes on this team and Howie's blueprint for success doesn't seem to work anymore. 

Nick is doing everything he can to save his job. I like the guy but I think Howie and Jeffery are who is leading this team with Jeffrey having the final say.

I fully expect Hurts to be healthy by the time we play WTF. But Hurts better bring it as Minshew Mania will take over the stadium if Hurts continues to struggle.

With the way the NFL has scheduled the last five weeks with all the divisional games, I think were about to see a bloodbath. Divisional games are imho, substantially harder than non divisional games. You’re going to see the cream rise to the top if those teams can stay healthy. If not…. Watch out.

indeedy, it's gonna be a very happy or sad weeks in the next five weeks for sure. teams who can play the kind of grind it out game this past Monday Night are gonna have the advantage. Dallas having trouble running this year but Pollard gonna Pollard and as long as Dak is standing, they are still the top offense. Giants are a complete enigma to me and not trending in a good way. both Washington and Philly have shown grit enough to pound it out. Good times.

Heineki vs Minshew in week 17 would make for a great headline game with possible playoff implication. who woulda thunk it.

It's hard for me to believe they haven't cut Reagor and resigned Fulgham. We've all seen them play in games and it's night and day. I rarely try to act like I know more than the professionals, but that just reeks of not wanting to admit your error in drafting him.

I agree about Hurts being frustrating to watch. It's great that he has the wheels and the run-element gives the offense something difficult to game plan for, but I really need to see improvement with reading defenses and judgement before I'm ready to consider him the guy of the future.  Minshew seemed to have way better control of the offense than I've ever seen Hurts have. Granted, it was the Jets, but unless comes back much improved after the bye, I'd like to see Minshew start another game. I have a feeling maybe Philly does have their guy.  But it's not who they were hoping it was. We shall see.

It's hard for me to believe they haven't cut Reagor and resigned Fulgham. We've all seen them play in games and it's night and day. I rarely try to act like I know more than the professionals, but that just reeks of not wanting to admit your error in drafting him.

I agree about Hurts being frustrating to watch. It's great that he has the wheels and the run-element gives the offense something difficult to game plan for, but I really need to see improvement with reading defenses and judgement before I'm ready to consider him the guy of the future.  Minshew seemed to have way better control of the offense than I've ever seen Hurts have. Granted, it was the Jets, but unless comes back much improved after the bye, I'd like to see Minshew start another game. I have a feeling maybe Philly does have their guy.  But it's not who they were hoping it was. We shall see.

woah, it's bye week right? the last 2-3 pages seem to be a   i stumbled into, can Eagles' fans not be pleased with an exciting team this year doing better than expectations (season win total was set at 6 wins).

just speaking for myself, but this year is 10x better than last year. Even if Hurts fizzles out and shows more of how he played against the NYG, it still is miles above the horrible product that the Eagles put on the field last year. not anyone's fault in particular, but just nice to be able to have some time to sit and watch a game and actually want to do that.

Last year, it was simply hard to watch. man thinking about it, i can just see Wentz overthrow a screen pass by 3 yards, or the team just go 3 and out for like 6 series in a row

This is still almost certainly the case.

There's a chance Hurts can improve his passing game and make better reads, but odds are still against him. Still worth a look next year to see if he can make an improvement.

Minshew kinda is what he is, he's a great backup no question.  I kinda view them both in that mold - they are both great backups. But if you have to go 17 games with one of them, you aren't going far, especially in the playoffs.

Hurts nor Minshew is the future. Hurts drives me crazy whereas Minshew is entertaining and fun to root for.

I don't think this will happen this offseason but Jeffrey should fire Howie. We need new eyes on this team and Howie's blueprint for success doesn't seem to work anymore. 

Nick is doing everything he can to save his job. I like the guy but I think Howie and Jeffery are who is leading this team with Jeffrey having the final say.

I fully expect Hurts to be healthy by the time we play WTF. But Hurts better bring it as Minshew Mania will take over the stadium if Hurts continues to struggle.

One last thing. Please stop throwing to Reagor. This dude isn't even that good of a returner. How he still has a starting role baffles me. I guess good things come to those who get drafted in the 1st round.

ehh, i think people can begin to get off Howie's back. sure he has had some downs, but what GM in the league right now is doing that much better. few teams off the top of my head have WRs they drafted in the first round or 2 in the draft that have fizzled out. 

I am not saying Howie is top 5 GM or anything, but his ability to bounce back from last year with acquiring the draft capital he has certainly has me supporting not just getting rid of him. there are so many teams in the league sitting at, or just below mediocrity. Eagles were probably below mediocre last year and i think this year the arrow is up from that, and we have some hope with the draft picks he has grabbed

I think there's also some selective amnesia as to how well the offense was playing the couple of weeks prior to the Giants game.

@Deamon I don't agree with you much but yes a Colts - Patriots AFC matchup would be awesome. If the Colts make it to the AFC Championship I'll be rooting for Wentz and Reich.

I'll be happy for the Eagles to draft 32 next year. That would be badass.

All about Minshew.  I thought he looked decent at Jacksonville and I am glad they gave him the chance.  Also fairly happy when Howie got him.  I think this guy is solid and I agree, he has some magic when he plays and could get us some sneaky wins.  I think he has a better line and WR here than he ever did in Jacksonville.

I happened to be at the game and I can tell you, he looked good from what I saw.  Didn't rush passes and had pocket awareness.  As to who has a higher ceiling... I think that's debatable.  We can all say Hurts says he has mobility, but I would really like to see more consistency in the passing game.  That's where he is struggling and I don't know if he is reading the field well.  

IMO, the Eagles need to see what they have there and I agree, if he is healthy he should play.... but now what they know with Minshew... if he is having one of his off games, they have a solid option behind him that can win.

I'm still of the opinion if the Eagles are out of it the last 2 weeks start Minshew. You got to see what you have in both guys at least.

indeedy, it's gonna be a very happy or sad weeks in the next five weeks for sure. teams who can play the kind of grind it out game this past Monday Night are gonna have the advantage. Dallas having trouble running this year but Pollard gonna Pollard and as long as Dak is standing, they are still the top offense. Giants are a complete enigma to me and not trending in a good way. both Washington and Philly have shown grit enough to pound it out. Good times.

Heineki vs Minshew in week 17 would make for a great headline game with possible playoff implication. who woulda thunk it.

From what I've heard from people is there were concerns with Fulgham mentally like poor effort and such which is why he ended up getting cut.

I respectfully disagree. He has a sick TD-Int ratio and is only in what, his third year? 
 

Time will tell but I don’t think Hurts gets the job back to anything but injury or a call from upstairs.

Honestly given how people view this draft weak at QB draft picks this year are less valuable (Higher or stronger QB talent = more value to picks) I wouldn't be shocked the Eagles trying to trade 1 or 2 of the first rounders to get 1 or 2 in next Years draft for a better chance at a QB. This is one of the only reasons I could see Hurts starting next year as well even if they don't think Hurts is even the guy. 

In a perfect world we take two or even 3 impact defensive starters or 2 Def and OL but given the Eagles need a full fledge rebuild and multiple spots giving up 1 or even 2 first rounders if you can accumulate more picks in the process this year and next year or even keep the 1st with a swap and get one next year is a good set of business Howie could pull off.
