2022-2023 NBA Salary Cap Draft - First Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup (2 Viewers)

Wow, my short list from last round was wiped out pretty quickly (as I expected).

All except for this guy, much to my pleasant surprise.

Yo Mama selects:

3.08 - Scottie Barnes, TOR PF - $7,644,600

Most of the remaining guys from my TREMENDOUS VALUE tier (which have recently been drafted) were all at similar positions as my current team. Getting Barnes here is a steal and a great fit, and you should all be ashamed.
Damn. I now have to re-do my list. Which was SGA, KAT, and Barnes. **** me.

He’ll pair well with Zach Wilson

3.7 - Karl-Anthony Towns - Big - Timberwolves
Oh thank God I thought I was going to have to pair him with Embiid and figure out a roster around it. Would have been fun to do but not my first choice. Can't believe people took the likes of Allen and Sabonis ahead of him.
Allen is half the salary, and plays defense
2/3, not half. And offense matters. I Love Jarrett Allen (took him 2nd round last time we did this) but to put him behind Towns is insane.

I think he's tough to build a championship contender around and at 25% of the salary cap, he makes it VERY tough to build a good defense while also having enough offense to make it work. Mobley and FVV is a good start to the D and gives @Eephus a shot at another two way player to really make it work with a reasonable amount of cap left.

I'm also excited for 2 guys in particular that I keep saying "I have to take him, right?" and then "but what if I got him late?" lol.

So with 6 picks to go, I had 4 guys head and shoulders jumping out to me. And all 4 went. 3 in the last 3 picks. You guys absolutely decimated my board.

But we regroup and soldier on.

3.10 Herb Jones, Wing

@dunfee555
This is who I was hoping would fall to me. Possibly the best perimeter defender in the league, hits juuuust enough threes to be respected, and is cheap as ****. Would have made my spacing pretty bad but would have made a sick defense.

The way people are taking contracts, I've dramatically shifted my initial strategy. There's going to be some very good value at high $ the way it's going. Just gotta be positioned to catch it.

Some really good players went off the board in the last few picks.

3.11 - OG Anunoby, Wing, TOR

In the conversation for the best one-on-one defender in the league, shoots over 37% from 3 and can do just enough with the ball to keep the offense flowing. With Tatum and Garland being able to create for him, everything gets way easier for him.

With only 15 teams and our fixed salary cap, I think there will be some interesting undrafted players.

Yeah I was doing some math stuff...our draft has only $2.25B of room. The NBA officially has around $3.6B and they can go over in many circumstances.

So like half the money has to go undrafted. Now, we close ~$95M of that gap immediately with our two hilarious PG contracts but still.

Walker makes that closer to $130M

ETA: Our 453 player spreadsheet has $4.44B worth of salaries.

Oh damn you.

OG was my pick.

I had a list of one guy. Need a few

Looks like we have about $7.1mm left per pick

3.13 Saddiq Bey DET $2,959,080

6'7" wing that is switchable on D and can bang the 3. Like his game and I'll grab another value baller while I can. His 51 point game last year was no joke and neither was a game-winner he hit the week before that. The 1st team rookie from two years ago is falling way below the radar among casual fans.

Solid pick I considered too

3.15 Pascal Siakam F/C $35,448,672
4.01 Dorian Finney-Smith F $12,402,000

I'm taking the Nick Nurse approach to the high-level extreme. I actually think there are better values still out there, and one objectively better player than Siakam but I'm very interested to see if I can build the ultimate switch EVERYTHING defense with enough shooting to make the offense function. Ball handling, passing, and defense are going to be elite strengths. We'll see if there is some cheap shooting talent in 30 picks.

Stats through round 3

- Round 1 - $27.0M avg salary, 9 players over $30M, 2 players under $10M

- Round 2 - $22.2M avg salary, 6 players over $30M, 5 players under $10M

- Round 3 - $16.8M avg salary, 4 players over $30M, 6 players under $10M

- Most salary left - Trader Jake with $9.3M avg salary left - 25% of cap used

- Least salary left - Desert Power with $4.5M avg salary left - 64% of cap used

3.15 Pascal Siakam F/C $35,448,672

My team will be packing the paint against Kev more than teams do guarding the Lakers this year.

So far this season (small sample!), Giannis has played 53% at PF, 47% at C; Siakam has played 34% at PF, 66% at C; DFS has played 20% at SF, 80% at PF (for his career, 54% at SF). All three can guard 3s - so defensively its a total non-issue. Offensively... we'll see what I can get around them.

Regarding shooting, Giannis sucks, Cade is a work in progress (but he did shot 40.0% on 155 threes in college), DFS is a plus accuracy/slight minus volume shooter, and Siakam is a league average shooter on plus volume for a PF/C. If Cade figures it out this year, and I can get a plus shooter at the other guard spot (volume and accuracy) to start, and can get a couple other legit knockdown shooters on the bench, I think the shooting is a non-issue.

4.03 Jaden McDaniels MIN $2,161,440

Great defensive power forward that can match-up with smaller players. I love this kid's hustle and attitude, and his offensive game has come a long way in a short time. Absolute gamer that will be a fit with many lineup combinations.

Dorian can guard 2s. He commonly does. One of the things that super makes the Mavs work is Dorian and Reggie both guard 1-4. Dorian bumps down and does his best against the 5, though not ideal, when needed.

I like both the picks, had them on my short list. Was starting to think I could get Siakam in the 5th lol.
