2022-2023 NBA Salary Cap Draft - First Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup (1 Viewer)

I really want to take someone else here, but don't want to blow up my later plans to fit in that salary. So I'll stick to my plan.

4.05 - Myles Turner, C, IND

Really wanted a shot-blocking center who can still be a viable threat from the perimeter offensively and Turner definitely fits that bill.

@Instinctive is on the clock.

Continuing with my weird philosophy now, I'll just try to take every incredible contract for a starter-level player and figure out the rest later.

4.06 Ayo Dosunmu, CHI

Plus defender. Finished college near 40% from three, and continued it last year in the upper 30s and this year starting out hot. I've now got 4 guys who shoot 3s and 3 guys who are big time defenders, with Haliburton passable there. Two-way players at good prices.

@Dr. Octopus up next

Nice pick. He was a top pre-draft target of mine. I just wasn’t sure what round to take him.

Salary aside, seems like the Bulls are expecting him to take a nice step forward this year.

There's an interesting dynamic with the end of year voting where it's like "cool, I'd like to be voted best team today" but then there's also an element of player projection involved.

You can send to me. Hope everything goes alright tomorrow.

4.14 - Jalen Green - SG, HOU $9,441,840

Y'all are drafting backups in the 4th round. There is actually a better player available for a similar price but not sure he fits with my team very well.

4.15 Jakob Poeltl 9,398,148 Underrated rim protector that will boost the defense. One of the cheaper big options out there so I have had him circled since I blew my salary early.
5.1 Josh Giddey 6,287,400
Youngest triple double player in NBA history. There just aren't a lot of players left on the board that offer his upside.

Was strongly considering Giddey last pick and with this upcoming pick. Love this guy.

I would have taken him last turn but he really didn't fit my switch everything idea. Surprised he fell this far.

He was a VERY high level prospect that would have gone #1 in more drafts than not and he's averaging 22.6 ppg and shooting .417 from three in year two. That percentage might not last, but I wouldn't be surprised if did - part of why he went #1 was his jump shooting. Worst case, he's going to provide plus three point shooting with uber-elite athleticism but he has a whole season to move from nice tertiary piece for a good team (for the sake of this draft)to a driver of efficient offense.

Love Poeltl at this point. He probably wouldn't close games (unless his FT% maintains closer to 60% rather than 45-50%) but he'll be great for 25 mpg and provide some elite D.

I don't necessarily get the Giddey love, especially in this format. He's an A+ passer and it's rare to have somebody his size be able to run an offense like he does, but he has to have the ball in his hands to be effective as he absolutely can't shoot so you would remove the ball from Curry and Lebron, he never gets to the line because he's a middling athlete and pretty week (averages 1.4 FTA per game vs 12.5 FGA) - the combination of not shooting and not getting to the line gives him awful scoring efficiency, and is an atrocious defender.

Bounced around a number of guys here in looking for a PF/C to pair with Adebayo. Since Bam doesn't shoot outside, I wanted a guy with a respectable 3-pt shot. Most of the guys I really want are in the $25M+ range which is just too much for me to even fill in the rest of my roster, much less have a decent bench so I'm stuck with 2nd/3rd tier guys here in a decent price range.

I'm taking a guy who has never quite reached his potential....until this season where he is off to an All-Star level start through the first 5 games on a new team where he is a primary option on offense. He has spent a season as a 3 guarding wings, so he can fit into a switching defensive scheme alongside Bridges & Adebayo while putting some fear into opposing offenses and stretching my budget but not breaking it.

5.2 - Lauri Markkanen - PF, UTH - $16,475,454
