The Kings are 20-2 against UTA, LAL, OKC, SAS, HOU, ORL, CHA, and DET. They are 16-23 in all their other games. They've been great against the bottom feeders.

Well, (1) several of those teams are at or approaching .500, they aren't exactly tanking, and (2) I suspect you'd get similar results if you did that analysis for most of the other teams in the league other than the top 3-4 contenders.

Only because I was curious as to how the top 8 teams (by record) stacked up . . .

So I'm not defending Ja Morant's actions or possible allegations against him. I am however saying media hit pieces can come out on a specific player for all kinds of reasons.

Since things like All NBA or MVP become a factor in contract negotiations/numbers, there is an incentive for some players and their agents to roll out hit pieces on players above them, to knock them down a peg.

Shoe brands only have so many deals and only so much money they are going to give out. So if two players are in contention to get a solid shoe deal, it's actually not a bad strategy to roll out hit pieces against your competition.

There are plenty of players who do ugly things and it's just buried. No one in the mainstream public gets to hear about it.

Maybe the worst example, the most petty I've seen in media optics, was Shaq and Steve Nash. Shaq hated Nash. Even stole a viable business idea from him. But there was time when there were critical media pieces coming out about Nash. Well relatively, since there's not much to beat up on the guy about. But it didn't come from nowhere. Shaq believed the MVP awards that Nash won should have belonged to the Big Diesel. But Shaq's heavy linkage and affiliations with high level street gangs was mostly driven out of the media. Everyone is just supposed to pretend it never happened.

Lots of these guy are scum. Only a certain few, based on certain factors like marketing, shoe deals, who owns that team, etc, etc, get fully dragged out into the press.

Ja Morant should have married Oprah's niece. Then nothing bad would be written about him ever. And any critic of his would end up in a ditch somewhere.

Nets have hit the skids. Awful few games. There is definitely talent there - Bridges and Cam J - but the Spencer/DFS have been lousy. Coach has also been terrible in his rotations - continues to force players like O'Neal, Joe Harris and S Curry who have no future. Ben Simmons is still an absolute anchor although he cant hurt them on he bench. The lack of defense when Bridges/Cam J are very good defensive players has been puzzling. Obviously will take some time to integrate.

Regardless they need to make some moves in the offseason to balance the team out - also this is the last year in a while they will have their 1st rder so not the end of the world to have a better pick.

Rebuild is going to take a bit longer than I thought - no reason they shouldnt be able to make some moves in offseason - they have the assets

don't feel too bad. what you have now is less of a team and more of a collection of guys who get paid by the Nets today

in a few months it will look a lot different, i imagine

Boston mostly looked good against the Cavs. They finally have their starting unit back and playing together (JT, JB, Al, Rob, Marcus). They came out in the second half and just thumped CLE with a barrage of threes, great defensive, and coming down with every rebound. Tatum looked way better than he has played lately. They built a 20-point lead and were content to trade baskets. They were still up 15 with 2:15 to go . . . and then almost fell apart. They ended up only winning by 4, and it got dicey by the end. Turnovers galore, Garland making 3 threes, Mitchell getting easy layups and free throws. Boston only made one FG in the last 4 and a half minutes. They still need to work on putting teams away. They got sloppy and complacent.

I know they didn’t have a lot of time between the Durant deal and the trade deadline, but I’m surprised the Nets didn’t deal vets like Patty Mills or especially Seth Curry (who’s on an expiring deal) to recoup some draft picks or younger players on good deals.

I think Kev explicitly stated he doesn't think Ja is going to get into the same type of trouble as Hernandez, just that he is hanging out in these circles getting into trouble.

Brandon Miller (allegedly) brought a murder weapon to the scene for a teammate just this year. That entire incident is definitely reminiscent of Hernandez at UF. He's a projected top 5 pick.

Actually, it seems like the investigators found no evidence that Aaron Hernandez was involved at the murders at UF. Police have already testified to Brandon bringing the murder weapon to the scene.

totally agree - after the KD trade they should have unloaded Mills, Curry, Joe Harris, R O'Neal for just about anything.

I still think they were better off making one last run and then trading KD in the offseason but they probably had a handshake deal with him last offseason that if he asked again they would deal him

So after seeing some games after all of the trades, I'm going to redo my playoff spot predictions:

EAST

1. Bucks - they won some of their games during this streak without Giannis. They have one of the best players in the world (in history, really) and are deep with some great complementary players including a DPOY candidate in Lopez and two guys who are 2-way All-stars in Middleton and Holiday. Only injuries can stop them, IMO.
2. Celtics - just too inconsistent to maintain the top seed vs. the Bucks right now. They can beat anyone on any given night if they get hot from 3. Curious to see how Mazzulla handles their rotations in the playoff series. They should be on a collision course with the Bucks in the ECF no matter which team finishes 1 or 2.
3. Sixers - Embiid is unstoppable and Harden is playing well, but they just can't get past the two above them with inconsistency behind those two. I feel like Maxey is a better 6th man, not a 3rd option and Harris just disappears too often. I'm no fan of Doc either.
4. Cavaliers - Very good, but not great team. Seems like they should be better with as well as Mitchell is playing with Mobley/Allen in the post and Garland running things. Still, they are locked in here, but will have to play 3 good teams to make the Finals out of this spot.
5. Knicks - playing great basketball right now. Thibs has NOT actually run his stars into the ground this season and they are tough on both ends of the floor. If Boston climbs back to the 1-seed, I hope the Cavs can knock them out because I'd rather Boston play Cleveland than the Knicks which tells you how good this team actually is.
6. Heat - I honestly haven't watched them play in a long time, but I just trust their core of Butler-Adebayo-Lowry with Spoelstra to win enough games to keep them out of the play-in tourney. I believe injuries have been an issue and they just don't seem as deep as recent seasons.
7. Raptors - this spot can be theirs if they want it. The only team out of the bottom half of the East with a chance to challenge the top half. Nurse is a great coach and they have enough talent to go on a run and win a couple of playoff games.
8. Nets - They are looking toward the future already but I don't think any of the other teams below them will win enough games to knock them below this spot. Some talent there, but figuring out how they fit and what their roles are is going to have them losing more than winning for the rest of this season. I think they don't make it out of the play-in tourney either.
9. Hawks - I think they are too good to fall out of the play in completely. Lots of noise around Trae Young being tough to play with and coach, not sure how real that all is, but they have underachieved a great deal this year. I think they make it out of the play-in tourney but get swept in the first round.
10. Wizards - I waffled back and forth between them and the Bulls here, but Washington has a 1.5 game lead on Chicago and I think making the playoffs means more to them than the Bulls. The Bulls are struggling with the revelation that they aren't good enough to go anywhere as constructed and are looking at some form of rebuild.

WEST

1. Nuggets - They can coast to the #1 seed here with that 5 game lead. Just need to keep everyone healthy for the playoffs at this point.
2. Grizzlies - They are pretty much locked in to this spot without enough time to move up or down either way. I still don't believe in them and think they fall short of the WCF.
3. Suns - I like the Kings, I really do, but the Suns team is on a mission now and I think they will go on a tear and I desperately want to see them face Memphis in the 2nd round, so this may be a little bit hope-filled.
4. Kings - They are better than I originally thought, but that defense is going to be too much of an issue in the playoffs. Still, they are fun to watch and relevant which is great.
5. Warriors - This team is going to be a very tough out. I think the Suns will be motivated to push for the 3 seed just to avoid facing them in the first round. Warriors could catch the Kings, but not without Curry. He should be back soon and at full strength, they are still a title contender.
6. Mavericks - I think the Doncic-Irving pairing will be a net positive, but not enough for true contention and the teams above them just are better. This team still has issues to work out but their offensive talent is enough to beat anyone on any given night.
7. Clippers - I don't know what is wrong with this team as on paper they should be winning right now, but their last two losses were bad. I still think they are better than the teams below them, but there is a dropoff from the teams above here.
8. Timberwolves - KAT should be back sooner rather than later and ANT is a legit stud. Pieces aren't fitting great, but injuries to other teams gives them a good shot to stay where they are right now in the standings.
9. Jazz - I think injuries to other teams make them the last team standing to keep this spot. They are a decent team and a pleasant surprise, but they are stuck around the bottom of the play-in tourney.
10. Trailblazers - I think Dame is playing well enough and wants to get them here. Plus the two teams above them are decimated by injury (LAL & NOP).

I think the Suns have catapulted into the discussion, but I still think the Nuggets are the best team in the West. We've seen exactly 1 game with Phoenix's new team. They will be tough offensively, but we don't really know about their defense yet and they have 2 guys with a lot of miles and some recent lower body injury history.

Injuries are the only thing that will hold that team back. Very top heavy but man, what a stacked starting 5. I think they'll be the favorite once the playoffs begin but I really see it as a 1a/1b type thing. Denver's great team chemistry can beat them.

Celtics got up by almost 30 halfway through the 2nd. Nets closed to within 9 at the half. I just don’t get how Boston can have possession after possession with terrible turnovers that turn into breakaways. They will give up 5 uncontested layups in a row without even getting off a shot.
